Why? Because I don't think Hudler is a top 6 forward?
-
That's usually how it works for me though. I suck in it and root for them, even though I think they're total assholes. Good example: Ulf Samulesson.
-
He still wouldn't anyways. Yashin hasn't actually "tried" since his first season in Ottawa. He would be mine, that's for sure.
-
The fact that I never liked the guy in the first place (until he came to Detroit) makes it all the more easier. Now that he's gone, I don't have to make excuses for him anymore. The Wings were plenty interested in him, but didn't believe in overpaying him (like Anaheim did). If he really liked it here so much, he would have taken money he's actually worth. Under no circumstance is Bertuzzi, at this point in his career, worth 4 million a season. And I think half the people on these forums, with the exception of the Bertuzzi lovers that I'm talking to right now, will agree me. Like I said, now that he is no longer in Detroit, I can hate him again just like I used to. I have my reasons, even beyond Steve Moore.

That's exactly what I'm been thinking. Holland doesn't have the demenor to go out and throw someone an offer sheet anyways. He probably s***s himself every time he signs a gritty player (which isn't often). I have my compliments for Holland, but I also have my complaints. It evens out in the end.
-
Ryan Smyth. I'm serious here too. Of the big names out there, I truly believe the Wings could have fitted Ryan Smyth in here, especially with Bertuzzi leaving (even though Smyth signed before Bertuzzi did, but still). I really believe it was possible for the Wings to sign him.
-
Come on. Seriously, he could have at least given Holland a week to make up his mind. Not 1 ******* day.
-
Don't say "Should have retained" Bertuzzi. Bertuzzi is a dick. He didn't give the negotiations a chance in hell. He wasn't given a 2 year deal right away, so then he left all that much quicker. That's bulls***. He could have at least waited a week or so and continued to negotiate with Holland. If, at that point, it's still a disagreement, then yes, Holland might be at fault. But not after Bertuzzi decides to up and leave in only 2 days.
-
You guys really do need to stop sticking up for Bertuzzi. If he really wanted to stay here like he said, he could have compromised. But I have to agree with previous posters. I think all of what he said was just media bulls***, because it sure didn't take him long to ditch us, did it? I mean, he could have given Holland a week of negotiations or something, but he bolted on the 2nd day of free agency. What, did he have a gun to his head or something? Is that what I'll hear next? Put simpily, he could have given the negotiations a little more of chance. He wasn't given what he wanted right away, so he basically said "F U" to the Wings just like that. He shouldn't be defended, since this one isn't Hollands fault. Bertuzzi wanted to be greedy and wanted more money then he is clearly worth, so he got it. After this turn of events, I don't miss him a bit. He came out to the media and said how much he loved it here, and then out right left in 2nd day of free agency. That's bulls***. Considering how much Anaheim ended up giving him, this is even better for the Wings. You're crazy if you think Bertuzzi is worth 4 million a season.

There are exceptions. As I said, we'll see what happens.

His size is going to kill him. He will be held ineffective in the playoffs when the game gets a lot more physical. That's generally how it goes. I am upset about this, because he is not what the Wings need. He is not a top 6 forward, nor a player to replace the toughness that's been drained away over the years. At this point, it's a relativily useless signing in my opinion. But, oh well. Everybody has their own opinions. We'll see what happens come next season.
-
I'll be sticking to those for a while now. Until Kenny loses out that is. I knew you'd appriciate that one.
-
Yeah, I am. But regardless, I still don't want him to play here. As if the Wings don't get pushed around enough already, having a 5'9 centerman is going to rectify the situation. It won't. I know Holland hit the snooze button a few too many times (again) during free agency and missed out on the good names, but I still feel there are potential names that could go on the second line over Hudler. But hey, that's just me. I've never been a big Hudler fan. Come playoff time, a player of his calibre is going to be relativly useless.

Would you have preferred Holland gave Briere a 10 million a year contract like Philly did? Situation: If Holland signs one of the big name free agents, Zetterberg is as good as gone in a few years. Are you willing to make that sacrifice? I'm not backing Holland completely, but I'm glad he didn't make any huge signings, because he would have overpaid up the ass, big time. The only decent, top 6 forwards want a lot of money, and come when Zetterberg is a free agent, they will no longer have the money to re-sign him. And I don't know about you, but I consider Zetterberg a lot more valuable then Daniel Briere. If you want a top 6 forward so badly, then you're going to have to settle for Bill Guerin. That's the only decent name left. It's easy to sit here and say what should and shouldn't have been done, but let's be real here. All of the big name top 6 forwards were all majorly overpaid. Put yourself in Hollands shoes. Would you have signed any of those guys for what they were asking? Briere for 10 million a season? Drury for 8 million? Those are ridiculous prices. Consider this when Joe Thornton, who blows both of those two out of the water entirly, is only making 7 million a season. My only beef with Holland is he missed out on Ryan Smyth. He would have been great here. I really don't think Holland was pursuing him all that much, and that really angers me. He is exactly what the Wings need. Not re-signing Jiri Hudler. But still though, this is all easier said then done. There are no good top 6 forwards left, except Bill Guerin, who I don't see coming here. So, I want Asham. At least he addresses one of the Wings many needs right now.

He probably won't make the team anyways, so don't worry. I should reiterate that I don't want the Wings to be a team full of cavemen on skates. But for the love God: One fighter would be nice.

Where are these minutes going to come from? Phoenix?
-
He scored 11 goals last season on the Islanders 4th line. That's pretty good in my opinion, for a guy that is primarily a fighter. Put him on a line with Filppula, and you have yourself a makeshift 20 goal scorer. And, one that doesn't suck either, like Samulesson or Williams. His offense isn't what's important. The fact that the Wings could finally sign someone with size and the ability to drop the gloves and defend his teammates is the most important thing. This is really why I'm pushing for Asham, and hope Holland gets his head out of his ass and signs him.
-
Now this I agree with. He actually thinks Schneider and Bertuzzi will replace Neidermayer and Selanne. Anaheim will drop way off next season. On topic: Brent Sopel? Give me a break. Signing him would just be for the sake of signing someone. The Wings need a physical defenseman, not a half-baked offensive defenseman who can't play a lick of defense. Even his offense has been on the decline lately. Same goes for Mike Comrie. "Small Centers" and "Detroit Red Wings" should not even be mentioned in the same line of text, since that's the exact last thing the Wings need right now. Comrie is also a bastard in the lockeroom, and when he's not scoring, is fairly useless. We all know what Grapes thinks of Comrie, and for once, he's right. Pass.
-
Arron Asham would be a great pickup for the Wings. Obviously you don't watch any other teams beside's Detroit. Otherwise, you would know this.
-
Oh, sorry. Must have missed the memo.
-
You actually think Schneider is better then Rafalski? Hint: Rafalski had more, yes, count 'em more points then Schneider last year, and doesn't suck ass defensivly like Schneider. In fact, Rafalski can play on the PP as well as the PK. So tell me, how is that not a good replacement?
-
Damn it. Losing... faith... in... Holland...
-
I'm a sucker for anyone who drops the gloves. Despite his other inefficiences.

The funny thing about Lindros is he hasn't had a concussion in quite a while. Now, he's been injuring his wrist and his back instead.
