Wayne Gretzky is a terrible coach. Some of the best players in the league probably wouldn't do good under Wayne-O, since again, he's a very bad coach. Before you start calling people stupid, read your own post. Shanahan left on his own. Holland and co. wanted him back very much (bad idea, but they still did). Shanahan thought he was better, and since he didn't like Babcock anyways, he bolted to New York. Under no circumstance did the Wings not offer Shanahan a contract though. I'm not saying that I'd want any of these guys like Comrie or Guerin, but your reasons and comparisons are extremely irrelvant. You could have just said "Comrie is a cancer, and Guerin sucks in the playoffs", and left it at that. Your comparisons with Gretzky and Shanahan are just plain bad, since their both wrong. Well, one anyways, being Shanahan. It's no doubt Comrie couldn't play under Gretzky, but really, no-one can. That's kinda why Phoenix sucks so bad.

Why is Koopmans going to retire? He's only 23.
-
Adam Hall is actually not a bad idea. He's from Kalamazoo. Guerin... ugh, you know, if he came here, I'd be forced to like him. Personally I hate the guy, and he's a ghost come playoff time. If Kenny got him for decently cheap, like 2 million a season or something like that, then I might like it. Anything over that is just too much though.
-
There's a difference though. Brad Ference has been able to keep a roster spot on other teams in the past, unlike Norton. He can also do other things then just fight, unlike Norton. Don't try to throw this off as a Brad Norton signing. I have a feeling Ference will be a much better player then that.
-
I'd like him to get a chance at least. He is big, gritty, and fights. You know that's enough for me to want him up here! Besides that, if he shows he can play decent enough, why not give him a shot? If he works on his all around game, then he'd be a great replacement for Markov.
-
Comrie will be anything but cheap. That's mainly the reason why Ottawa doesn't want him back. He has problems anyways. He's known for being a lockeroom cancer, and the last thing the Wings need is a small center. There are better fish in the sea. Kozlov I'm not all that big on either. Hopefully Dallas hurries up and signs him already, so I don't have to worry anymore.
-
No, you're wrong. Andrew Ference has played 413 NHL games. Brad Ference has played 250 NHL games. I'm not lying. Look on his TSN profile. I know everybody wants to make Holland look like s*** and try to make these guys look horrible, but he might have hit a gem here in Brad Ference. He's a gritty defenseman who hits a lot, and fights. He's a very capable replacement for Markov, and he's much cheaper too.
-
Kozlov hasn't signed here though. These signings for LA don't mean dick right now, since they still haven't addressed the need for a starting goalie. Cloutier sucks, and Burke is old. Barry Brust and the Japanese guy were all released, but they weren't the answer either.
-
Ference has played over 250 NHL games. That's pretty decent. I hope this is true! I'd love to see Babcock fit him in there as a replacement for Markov. He'd be a great fit back on the blueline as a #6 guy.
-
Brad Ference is a Wing? Woah! Now, if this guy could improve his skating, he'd be great here! He's a good physical defenseman, and fights a lot too. He needs to get a lot better if he's going to make the team though. As a former pretty high first round pick back in 1997, he has the ability to do so. I hope the Wings give this guy a chance. We'll see.

3 days into free agency, and over half of the big names are gone. While this makes it exciting right now, if there's nobody left over the summer, it'll get pretty dull. Still got Sheldon Souray out there. He's the one who I've really been watching. I want to see just how much a team is going to pay for this guy. If the Islanders get involved like the rumors say, expect quite a few 0's to be thrown in on the end of his paycheck.
-
Scandals! If this is indeed true (which I heard on XM Home Ice yesterday that they said it was), then we'll see what comes out of this. Probably nothing, but wouldn't that be weird if the NHL stepped in and made Nylander play in Edmonton instead of Washington? Again though, I doubt anything of that magnitude would happen.
-
He's returning to his former team. Lukowich is physical, but he's also a slug. He's like a younger version of Dan McGillis, but unlike McGillis, has managed to stay in the NHL.
-
...who probably will not get much due to the step back he took this season. Forsberg probably would go back to Colorado. It's where he was the most comfertable in his career. He was mainly a bust in Philly, and Nashville for that matter, so those options should be ruled out.
-
Damn bulls***. I would have loved to see him play here.

You do make a good point. I've been critical of Holland of this in the past, since the kind of player he's looking for only exists in mythology (aka power forward). There are a ton of alternatives, ranging from Arron Asham to Raffi Torres to Jason Weimer to many others for that matter. I really wish that, for once, Holland would grant my birthday wishes and sign someone like this. I don't know why he's so afraid to, since all of these guys can do other things but be one-dimensional fighters.
-
Thanks for the update. I'm thinking he might go to the Islanders. They'll throw huge cash at him, and they need to make a big splash this year, since they lost Smyth, Poti, Viktor Kozlov, etc. I think that's maybe where he'll end up going.
-
I agree, but this year was different then last year. The year the Oilers upset the Wings was clearly lost on two things: those being the Wings were extremely soft, and Manny decided to tank. Grit was a major issue that year. The loss to the Ducks, however, was more or less luck. I really don't want to get into that whole debate again, but it is what it is. The Wings showed plenty of grit during this years playoffs, and outhit every team they played. The guys who did it aren't exactly overly gritty guys, but Babcock was able to get them to play that way. The Wings didn't lose to Anaheim because they didn't have enough grit. I think most will agree with me.

Oh Christ. The usual cliche.

Do you honestly feel Daniel Briere is worth 10 million a season? While, at that same time, Joe Thornton is only making 7.2 million a season? He's overpaid, just like half of the other big names.
-
Did you also happen to notice that all of the big name players were overpaid immensly, and all got huge contracts? It's as simple as this: If the Wings were to go out and sign some like Drury or Briere, that would mean no Zetterberg come when he's a free agent. Now, who would you rather have? One of those two or Zetterberg? I'd much rather have Zetterberg. kthx
-
Doesn't bother me any. I wouldn't have minded Kozlov had Bertuzzi stayed, but now we need to address the need for size (again). By the way, any more news on Sheldon Souray? Not that I would want him here, since we have enough defenseman as it is. I'm just wondering where he's going to go.

This post should be archived for all eternity. Very funny!
-
He's exactly what the Wings need. He's gritty, fights, and still scored 11 goals last season with the Islanders on a checking line. Just imagine him playing on a line with Filppula. He could possibly be a 20 goal scorer!

I'll relax when Holland signs Arron Asham. Until then, you know the drill. *begins to ***** about Holland*
