http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=211214&hubname=nhl We'll see how long he lasts. Recent records will think not too long.

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=211370&hubname=nhl Too bad. He would have been a great fit for the Wings, since he's a gritty, scoring winger.

If you were to put together a Yashin-Lang-Scott Parker line, that would easily surpass it as the slowest line ever.
-
No no, he will have pressure. Every year that team misses the playoffs they fire whoever is the coach. Instead of trying to build anything off of it, they bring in a ton of guys who can be the "quick fix", so the Bruins are back in the playoffs, and Jeremy Jacobs can sit on the money that comes in from playoff games. He's as bad as Bill Wirtz. Well, maybe not that bad, since he at least let's the management sign high priced players, and televises home games on TV, but still. It's close.

He has his 10 game "flash of hope" every year in Toronto, which is what basically keeps him alive there. That, and the horrible management of course.

Rumor: Blue Jackets may buy out Fedorov's contract
Kp-Wings replied to HockeyCrazy3033's topic in General
I'll bet you if Lang was around during the glory years, there would be a ton of people who'd want to keep him because of nostalgia. That's mainly why these people want to bring Fedorov back. I mean, they can't actually think he'd help this team, do they? Hey, let's sign Alexei Yashin while we're it! And resign Lang! Put together a Fedorov-Yashin-Lang line, and that's probably the slowest moving, laziest line in the history of the NHL. Everyone's all over me because I want Hartnell on this team, but he brings needed items to this team. Fedorov is washed up, and has been phoneing it in for years now. He needs to hang them up. In fact, he better, because I do not want him coming back here and ruining the new identity the Wings have created for themselves of being a more physical, gritty, and harder team to play against. Fedorov will screw all that up. -
That would probably be it. It's all one big cliche.

Filppula is way better. He has enough to potential to put good numbers, and is a great 2-way forward also. Plus he's one of my favorites on the Wings, so naturally I feel he's better. I still keep thinking the Wings should just forget about signing centers in the offseason and just Filppula play on the 2nd line. He's more than capable. Look at how good he played in the playoffs with slightly (not much more, but still slightly) more minutes.
-
Ok. Thanks for the clarification Matt.
-
Wait a minute, so all regular members are also put into this group?
-
I'd take Hartnell on the Wings. I guess me and Detroit #1 fan are the only two, but you can still drop it 98%.

I thought I saw somewhere that they did draft a lot from College's. I guess not then. Yep, so since he's not a Swede, I don't he'll be coming here. Sven Jonsson would be more like it, or any player with a swedish sounding name.
-
I figured someone would bring that up. Only I thought we'd see a Cory Cross sucks joke thrown in there, so I'm quite disappointed. They are not related. Cory Cross was born in Edmonton. Tommy Cross was born in America. Not sure on the city, but I know they are not related.
-
That could very well happen, assuming the Wings actually use their pick this year. Next to Swedes, the Wings do draft a lot of American College players. Cross does seem to get good reviews in the scouting reports, so he might be worth it.

Rumor: Blue Jackets may buy out Fedorov's contract

No kidding. Like someone else said, why don't we just bring the '98 Cup team and try to play out the season with them? Hey, it's only been 10 years. Like that's going to make a difference. I tell you, I'm already mad enough that Holland is considering bringing Kozlov back. If he even dares bring Fedorov back, I will take back all the nice things I said about him at the trade deadline last season. I might even be inclinded to join the anti-Holland bandwagon, because quite frankly, two old russians from the glory days aren't going to bring anything to this current team. -
Until I see actual pictures of the Wings new jersey, and it still looks the same, I'm going to continue to be a pissy ***** about this. Sorry, but I see no problem with the way the jerseys used to be.

Based off of what? Note that the fans will start coming out to support the team now only because it is in direct danger of moving. If Leipold would have bitten the bullet and kept the team as is, the attendance would have been flatter then ever before next season. The team was once again trounced in the first round (by the same opponent in the same number of games), and they sold the farm just to land a pretty useless Peter Forsberg. Not to mention that just before Leipold walked away, he granted Trotz another season behind the bench. Most of the fans don't like him anyways, so that makes it even worse. Not much incentive there to go watch any games, unless the Preds bought Crosby or something, which is impossible anyways so it doesn't even pay to think of the idea. The city itself has it's group of die-hard fans, just like all teams. But that group is considerably smaller compared to everyone else who prefer watching the Titans, College Football, or just not caring about hockey or the Predators. The group numbers are pretty uneven too. It's been eight seasons or so since they've moved to Nashville, so maybe that isn't long enough. But unless the sale with Balsillie falls apart, that team is moving. Maybe not next year, but soon enough. A few out clauses won't stop him, since stuff like that generally comes with a loophole or two that usually work in the owners favor. edited for grammar

Schneider. He is extremely valuable to this team. His offensive production and work on the PP is very important to the teams success. Look what happened after he went down during the playoffs. Markov is easily replaceable anyways, since guys like Sarich, Sutton, Rivet, etc. all play the same way he does. I just hope Schneids doesn't get greedy and decide to test the market, especially after the stupid Flyers decided to throw the book at Kimmo Timonen. Of course, Schneids did say he really likes it here, and it's the most comfortable he's ever been on any of his teams. I think he'll decide to stay, and I hope he does.

Columbus and Carolina both have a great fan base. They should not be contracted. I've said it before, I've said it again: The Washington Capitals need to either move, or be contracted, because that market is just a joke. They have never had a consistant sellout streak, even during the years when they were good, and their fan base is laughable at best. All be it 95% of the city of D.C. probably doesn't even know who Ovechkin is. That city is all Redskins. After that is the Wizards. When their not playing it's the Nationals. If all three of those teams are bad, then the Ravens and Orioles all get more support then the Captials, and they play in a different city! Nashville is the other obvious choice. Pathetic fan base, and pathetic corperate support. New Jersey or Phoenix are next after that, since their fan bases are pretty lame as well. New Jersey shouldn't have an excuse either, since they've been a highly successful team the past few years. Anaheim is another one, since most people in LA/SoCal are Kings fans, and California doesn't need three teams. I actually think if, given a good team, the Florida Panthers could mantain themselves as a decent market. Their fan base really isn't all that bad, and I know people in Miami who are Panthers fans that really didn't follow hockey that much until Miami was given a team. Plus the city is teaming with northern transplants, which also gives it some potential. Hockey is slowly becoming a decently popular sport in Florida. Notice their attendance went up pretty good at the tail end of this season when the Panthers were in the playoff race a bit. Give it time. If the Panthers are able to ice a successful team, they'd get good support. Washington and Nashville are the main two, with New Jersey also in there close behind. These are three markets that, even during periods of having successful teams, still can't sellout or get a decent fan base. They are problem markets, and if the NHL ever had to come to contraction, these three would be the main three to go, with probably Anaheim or Phoenix thrown in there as the 4th to even things up.

Kronwall only manages to throw a meaningful body check once every full moon. He never plays consistantly physical. It's usually one big hit followed by a set of hits not even noticable. One guy that always manages to throw a big hit, no matter the situation, is Vitaly Vishnevski. I would love it if he played on the Wings.

Again, it's a stretch. As far as an all around game, yeah, you're probably right. I still personally think Williams is horrible though. And even though Calder is gone, it was a great trade on Kenny's part to dump Williams.

Marleau isn't Bill Guerin. One playoff failure doesn't mean there will be more to follow.
