Wouldn't that be for the better though? The more money we have available, the bigger and better trade deadline moves we can make. Besides that, even if a big name player isn't brought it, it's always better to have the extra Cap space to get anything for any problem players the team might have (ala last year with Jason Williams). The extra Cap room is very helpful, and de Vries can come cheaper, then by all means, give it a shot. He's not that bad either.

It's my earnest wish that we never even come to that, and Kenny signs someone else instead.

Jiri Hudler - Would you have played him more?
Kp-Wings replied to SouthernWingsFan's topic in General
Gah! You're dreaming red ink if you think Kevin Lowe would actually be crazy enough to do that trade straight up. A pick would have to be thrown in there or something. Torres has a hell of a lot more potential then Hudler. Hudler probably has a slight edge in skill, but Torres has size, grit, and a much better defensive game then Hudler. Torres could probably put up close to what Hudler could ever match anyways. -

Tom Preissing went to Ottawa, not Chicago. The trade, as per TSN: In a three-way deal: Ottawa Senators traded Martin Havlat and Bryan Smolinski to the Chicago Blackhawks, San Jose Sharks traded Tom Preissing and Josh Hennessy to the Ottawa Senators (via Chicago), Chicago Blackhawks traded Mark Bell to the San Jose Sharks and traded Michal Barinka and a 2nd round selection in 2008 to the Ottawa Senators. -

Jiri Hudler - Would you have played him more?
Kp-Wings replied to SouthernWingsFan's topic in General
I would declare Ken Holland for GM Conn Smyth if he traded Hudler for Bell. That would be an absolutly awesome trade. One bad year in San Jose doesn't mean anything. Bell was a top 10 draft pick in 1998 (#8 overall), he can score goals, and is an excellent physical force out there on the ice. He's not afraid to throw down the gloves and stick up for his team-mates either. Oh, that would be a great pickup if we could do it. -
Quincey is still eligible to be assigned to the AHL next year, which is where he will go. Meech hasn't proved himself worth a roster spot, and the Wings will either try and shop him, or waive him. If he's lost on waivers, then so be it. Not a huge loss. That said, the Wings would have 7 defenseman, if they re-signed Schneider, Chelios, and Markov. I don't know where you're reading that Markov doesn't want to come back. He said earlier that he was tired of switching teams, and would like to stay. Unless something just happened recently, anything you've read about Markov is purely Eklund garbage or on par with that. If Markov doesn't come back, I'll be disappointed, but he can still be replaced. There are plenty of cheap, physical, defenseman on the open market that come as a replacement, Greg de Vries being the most noteworthy.

What happened during the Wings - Ducks series has been blown over by now. I'm one of the guilty ones who was a little "too passionate" during that series, and I apologize. I hope you reconsider, and decide to stay, as this board is a great place to talk about hockey. It does get pretty worked up during the playoffs, but you shouldn't have to worry about any of that during the offseason.

Serious Talks Of Expansion...And The Wings Moving East
Kp-Wings replied to Sleight's topic in General
Good point. Kansas City wouldn't be a horrible market for a team like some suggest. I mean, if Miami, Florida (well, technically Sunrise, which is a suburb or Miami) can have an NHL team, than Kansas City should be able to support one too. -
Emmerton and Howard were both second round selections. They were the Wings first picks that year, but they weren't first round picks. The last Canadian player drafted by the Wings in the first round was Jesse Wallin back in 1996. Maybe it's time to consider an American if that's any implication.
-
Yep. I hope the Ducks fans stay too. As long as the trolls don't come back (The Booth, etc.), I'm fine with they being here. Good to here.
-
As long as Chris Pronger continues to play for the Ducks, there probably will be.

Dainius Zubrus was who I was thinking up. He scored 24 goals this season 61 points, and has good size being 6'3, 212 pounds. While he didn't score any goals with Buffalo during the playoffs this year, his physical play was top class, and I think him and Bertuzzi would form a great line together. He could come for around 2.5 to 3 million also, from what I've heard anyways.
-
Why? Holmstrom is a perfect fit on the first line with Datsyuk and Zetterberg (unless this means Zetterberg and Datsyuk will be split up). I don't understand this thing that, once you are a Red Wing, you have to retire a Red Wing. There are other good choices to go after out there other then Kozlov, and there names aren't Scott Hartnell for that matter either. Ugh.

Jiri Hudler - Would you have played him more?
Kp-Wings replied to SouthernWingsFan's topic in General
He's too small. While I did at first, I later didn't mind Babcock not playing Hudler, as his size would have made him completely ineffective out there. I would like to see the Wings shop him around, or just have him go back to Europe. No offense to his skill, but this team needs more size. We don't need players that will be pushed around like a paper bag, and that's exactly what will happen to Hudler here when we play big teams like Anaheim. I'd like to see the Wings shop him around, and maybe bring in a good prospect or draft pick for him, then sign someone like Aaron Asham, Brad Isbister, or Jason Wiemer, to give this team size and someone willing to drop the gloves. -
Brady Quinn was supposed to go #1 overall in the NFL draft last year, and he dropped all the way to #22 overall. I'm not comparing Quinn to Cherepanov, and the NFL is a whole different story, but it wouldn't be unheard of to see it happen. The lack of a transfer agreement totally kills Cherepanov. It just does. He probably should be the #1 overall choice, but I really don't think teams want to go through trying to sneak him over like Pittsburgh did with Malkin or the Wings did with Fedorov. It's just too much of a hassle. Besides, the Blackhawks have enough problems to worry about trying to become a respectable team again, so the issues with Cherepanov would just become even more of a distration.
-
I did read his post, but due to his extreme lack of decent grammar, I couldn't actually see that read "can't". The main reason I don't want Fedorov back is because he is un-motivated. I mean, here we finally manage to free ourselves of Lang, and now people want to bring in another lazy, un-motivated center in? I highly doubt Sergei would ever revive his career here. And really, I don't want to see the chance even taken. Let Filppula play the role of second line center. He's plenty ready.
-
That's how the whole playoffs went for Anaheim though. They got the bounces from the get-go. They were definitly the luckiest team in the playoffs this year. Not that they suck or anything, but to be lucky you have to be good, and to be good you have to be lucky. That's how it works, and that's definitly what happened in Anaheims case this year.
-
No, he can't. Zetterberg and Datsyuk are top line players. You've got your blinders on too tight if you actually believe Fedorov can still be an effective top line player.
-
mk13 - Kopecky on the 2nd line? Are you kidding me? If Kopecky manages to actually put fourth an NHL career, it will be as a 4th liner. He doesn't have enough offensive talent to be anything more. By the way, the reason I say "manages" is because his shoulder/collerbone injury may hamper him for a long time. He had a very serious injury. I don't care for your lines that much. Hudler is easily expandable. If the Wings can't get anything for him, then I hope he just goes back to Europe. We need more size, not someone small like Hudler. He'll never make it here on this team anyways, as long as Babcock is coach. Keep Bertuzzi and dump Hudler. We need the size.
-
What does that have to do with anything? Nobody doubted Dino's talent. He went undrafted because in his final year of juniors, he broke his leg. It almost ended his career. He managed to come back and signed with Minnesota. If he wouldn't have broke his leg, he probably would have been drafted.
-
No, he's gone. It's all but official. Man alive. How is it that Fedorov manages to be mentioned in almost every single topic created on here anymore? Soon enough we'll see mention of Fedorov in the Tigers baseball season topic, or something regarding George W. Bush. I'm getting tired of the nostalgia. Fedorov hasn't been in the playoffs in 4 years, and he's not nearly the player he used to be. Why is that brining him back would automatically mean we'd win the Cup? We may not have won a Stanley Cup since he left, but we still lost even when he was here. Ugh.
-
It was when he got his big contract was when the hate began. Mostly it's not McCabe's fault though: It's JFJ's fault because he is, now that Mike Milbury and Mike O'Connell are gone, the worst GM in the league. He doesn't know how to negotiate a normal contract, so he overpays up the ass and completely gives in just to keep them. It's not that McCabe is a bad player: It's just his defensive lapses are put under the microscope because he's now one of the highest paid defenseman in the league. He basically makes as much as a Norris Trophy calibre defenseman would make, if that's any indication to how bad a GM JFJ is. Again: McCabe isn't a bad player, but he's not worth the money he currently makes. That's probably why he isn't exactly a fan favorite up there anymore.

Gilles is a Canadian. When was the last time you can remember the Wings actually taking a Canadian in the first round? I mean, besides that, if there's a Swede availible, you know he will always get the drop over anyone else. Personally I'd like to see Kenny save the Swedes for the late, late rounds so we get more diamonds in the rough like Zetterberg and Holmstrom. Get a Canadian or an American with the first round pick.

Not to be a jerk or anything, but I really think that is a horrible assumption of how things went. Just like with Steve Smith. Phillips is a good defenseman, and what happened to him was merely bad luck. He didn't do it on purpose. I swear to God, after listening to people talk about it, they all act like he did, which is the dumbest crap I've ever heard in my life. Why would anyone do it on purpose? It was an accident, and that's it.
