NO. Kozlov can fill Langs spot. He's not overrpaid and over the hill like Fedorov. Don't waste a roster spot on Fedorov. Sign someone like Hartnell who has more upside. And please guys: I would appreciate it if we don't start the name calling that I dare suggest Hartnell. It's my gut feeling that Hartnell is just what this team needs, and most people, who aren't obsessed with the past, will generally agree with me that he'll be a much better choice then Fedorov. Signing Kozlov can fill Langs spot, and put Hartnell on that line, and it's not half bad.

Justin Abeldkader sounds like a good find also. He's an American currently with MSU, so we probably won't get him for a few years until he's done with College, but I'm excited about him coming into the system too. He sounds like he plays a gritty style also. Still though, the Wings only have about 3 prospects I'm really excited about. The rest of these guys are mostly Europeans, who aren't even known outside of Stockholm. I don't mind drafting a few Europeans, but when you draft 10 guys in one draft, and 6 of them are Swedes who average about 3 points a season while not even playing a physical game, it isn't much to get excited about.

The Av's can stay in Denver. They have a decent following. A team that needs to move NOW is the Washington Capitals. The city of DC shows no support for the team at all, and they have such a weak fan base. I'll bet you 95% of the city doesn't even know who Ovechkin is. Although George W. Bush does like hockey, he is one of the few. Seriously though, the Capitals need to move, and fast. Phoenix is actually a better market for a team than DC. At least the city of Phoenix gives the team some support. The only reason they suck is that Wayne Gretzky, who doesn't know his own ass from a palm tree when it comes to coaching, is the teams coach. Cut him loose, bring in the right players, and the team is good again, and the fans come back. Remember, when the team first moved to Phoenix in the mid 1990's, they actually did have a solid fanbase. I actually advocate keeping them there. The four teams that need to move are these: Nashville, Atlanta, Miami, and the Capitals. Nashville is just lame, Atlanta just pretends sports don't exist when the Falcons and Braves aren't playing, Miami knows no sports unless success is imminent (the famous "What can you do for me, now" case) and DC is a joke when it comes to hockey. Those are the four that should be moved.

Yes it would. The Wings could get lucky, and a guy who was initially a scrub when drafted, could florish here. But instead, the Wings are on the outside looking in, and trying to find ways to constantly address a "quick fix" of the grit issue in the free agent market with a couple of 1 year signings. Most of these guys, by the way, are already packing their bags by seasons end. You were absolutly right when you said Kenny doesn't know tough guys, and he doesn't. He's a good GM, but he has his flaws at that same time.

Atlanta got an NHL franchise based shearly on numbers. It's a huge city, which made it possible to support an NHL franchise again. Too bad that Atlanta doesn't have a lot of Northern Transplants, like SoCal or Florida, and the people already there are completely clueless to anything that isn't name Michael Vick or the Atlanta Braves. The NHL has errored on so many things in the past 5-10 years, so this is all just "the norm".

Report: Habs offer 4-year deal to Andrei Markov

Why did you quote me then? This is what I'm getting at here. -
Spot on. The lack of grit over the past few years or so spans from one thing: The Wings deciding not to draft any North American players. It's not because of Kenny not signing them, but it's because of Kenny not drafting them. Look at some of these guys in the league, like Derek Boogard. These guys were picked way down in the cellers, yet still became decent players. The Wings management use their same pick in that same area on some Sven Jonsson or whatever the hell it is, and they get nothing. Granted they did get Datsyuk and Zetterberg down there, but those two were good players from the get-go. I forget exactly what held them back. I would, for once, like to see the Wings not vacuum out the entire 3rd tier Swedish league in, at least, one draft. I'm not anti-Euro, but for God sakes: Half of these guys don't have a snowballs chance of making it in the NHL. I mean, take a look at their point totals. Some of these guys have like 5 points in 40-50 games in Sweden. Same numbers as a tough guy would have here. But, you know, I don't see this trend changing any time soon. Again, I'm not anti-Euro. I love guys like Zetterberg, Dats, Homer, and Lidstrom. Heck, even Lilja. But really: the Wings need to start taking a chance on North American born players. They are the lifeblood to most teams, since they do things that a lot of Europeans don't do.

Read the post. I never called him a great shutdown defenseman. That was somebody else. -
Ottawa Royals? Hmm, well, it's actually almost close! Heh, did anyone notice the Wings got a mention in there? Even people who don't watch hockey still know about them. Just goes to show that the Winged Wheel expands far beyond Detroit.

Fine then. The Tennessean is a joke when it comes to hockey coverage. Everyone happy now?

Let's just hope for Montreal's sake that Markov doesn't turn into Bryan McCabe part deux. It might certainly turn out that way. Of course, theres a difference. Markov is a good player, while McCabe sucks. -
Hmm mmph. Another Swedish player now with the Wings. I swear, the management picks these guys up like berries off a tree. Nothing against the cause or anything, but hearing the fact that this guy is lazy totally turns me off. We'll wait and see, but so far this moves brings me no excitment.

Franzen should definitly fight more for his size. This is always something I've wondered, is that why he doesn't fight more. Must be a Swedish thing.
-
The Tennessean is a joke. Anything hockey related in the Tennessean is usually found on the back of a cereal box. Not a credable source at all.

Roenick will eventually be a broadcaster once he finally decides to hang up his skates. I love the guy, as he has a great personality, but I think his time has probably come. I really don't see any teams taking a risk on him this year.
-
The Wings don't need an enforcer. The Wings need Aaron Asham.

I'm surprised by the lack of faucet jokes going around, seeing as how Travis Moen scored the game winner. Damn it, Damn it, Damn it! I called the game too early. I should have actually waited until the game was over until I started talking about the Sens dominance. Damn bastard Ducks...

Oh please. You can't put that past the fact that Hartnell would undoubtably make this team better? Funny, everyone else can. I'll bet you considered Bertuzzi a piece of s*** before he came here too. Now, you praise him and want him re-signed! Kettle, meet pot. I love Bertuzzi, but I won't deny he has done some dirty things in his career also, Steve Moore notwithstanding. I feel that, if you're going to like Bertuzzi, Hartnell shouldn't be that far off. But no, I guess that point means nothing, does it? I'm tired of all the people on here who cheer on Bertuzzi, yet when the name Hartnell is mentioned, it's like I'm calling in the Crows of Deathâ„¢. I mean, seriously. I've hated Hartnell too, but if he did come here, I can manage to grow up and put what he did before behind me. Can you? The sole purpose of signing Hussey was for an extra player in GR. There was no real intention of giving a roster spot on the Wings to Hussey.
-
Stop living in the stone age already. Hartnell plays cheap, because of the coach he's playing under. It is Barry Trotz, not the players (except Tootoo). I mean, when you have Alex Radulov going out and doing dirty stuff, you know it must be the coach. Hartnell would be a great fit here. For God sakes, the man has the potential to be a 30 goal scorer and he plays with grit. He's not Chris Pronger, ok? He's fixable. Oh, definitly. Him and Flip would have great chemistry together. They'd be great for providing some offense to the 3rd or 4th line, being whichever one Babcock would put them in.

Ok, this game sucks now. I hate Anaheim so much. F-ing bastards.
-
Hey, I'm just looking at immediate options here. But yeah, it's probably a bad idea. It's just that, you know, the bullpen is in a downslide with the injuries. Any ideas of who would be availible if say, the Tigers did want to deal Maroth? I'm at a blank right now.
-
Yuck, no. Durbin sucks. By the way, what's the status on Rogers? I really want him back soon. The initial time frame was about 2 months, and it's coming to that time now.

Should the Wings target UFA-to-be Giguere?
Kp-Wings replied to zetterbergfuturemvp's topic in General
That's what I'm saying. -
I'm liking this game right now. Why? 'Cause the Sens are winning, and have good control of the game. Everythings all good. Still too close for comfort though. Hopefully the Sens can hold on here. Woo!
