What is with you people and the word classy? Why is that everyone's favorite word all of a sudden? This is a Red Wings fan forum. Got that? I... don't know how to break it to you... but *gasp* you're going to see anti-Dallas Stars material written on here. I honestly don't know how to make that any more clear. But really, why should I have to? It should be common knowledge that, on an opposing teams forum, the fans are not going to root for the team you're rooting for. That fact is so painfully obvious. What do you want us to do? Sit around and say how great the Stars are? Kiss Marty Turco's ass and give him the LGW Vezina? Start rooting for Dallas just because you're hear, otherwise you'd be upset and call us classless? Well, that's not going to happen, not in the least bit. I'd think you'd be able to see that. ...and quite frankly, I've seen rabid animals that show more class than Steve Ott, so the whole thing of calling us classless is pretty ridiculous. Just look at the guy you're defending.

Cory Cross isn't that bad of a player; he was just never given a chance here. Honestly, I'd take him over Lilja or Lebda any day of the week, and twice on Sunday. My only complaint about Cross was that, for a big guy, he really wasn't all that overly physical, and should have fought a lot more (he was a good fighter, when he actually did fight). Oh, and by the way, Ott sucks at fighting. He's a ***** that's become the standard for the role of an agitator in the NHL; a guy who runs around, talks a lot of trash, yet fights like he has a bag on his head. I always find it very enjoyable to see guys like him get crushed in fights, because it shows how weak they really are.

Who's Mike Ribiero?

I figured it would be something along those lines.

The bad part about the Vs. broadcasters is that their all former hockey guys, and are all current broadcasters of other teams. It's not like their a bunch of scrubs picked up off the street. ...or maybe they are... hehe...

Too bad that video is as old as dust. Thanks again for contributing. Fail.

I still don't know what the phrase "team toughness" means. The teams toughness mostly comes from a select group of guys. I mean, if you're telling me Samuelsson and Lebda are bringing toughness to the lineup, well... honestly, I wouldn't have a response for that, because I'd be too shocked that people would think that way. I guess it's just an expression, more than anything.

Haha, yes, that's exactly how it works.

I love Pat Caputo (his Lions rants are great, unlike Rob Parker), but I don't really agree with his points on Cherry. If anyone had watched HNIC the other night, he complimented the Wings, and picked them to win the Cup. The only thing he said bad was the "passionless" comment, which probably applies more to their play in the regular season. Or maybe it doesn't. Who knows. Melrose, on the other hand, hates the Wings more than any other team, and has never given them any credit at all. Cherry, at the very least, will occasionally throw a bone Detroit's way, which he did last weekend.

There was actually speculation that Stefan Liv would be brought back into the organization; it never got past anything more than a rumor, though. The time for Howard is now, and if Holland brings in another dinosaur to further stunt his development, that'll be nothing but pure stupidity. If it was a star goaltender, that'd be one thing, but Kolzig does not fit that bill. Kolzig was a good goalie... about 5 years ago. He's nothing beyond a backup now, which isn't at all what the Wings need. Besides that, he's proven this year that he doesn't like being a backup (he'll have to get used to it, but something tells me he probably won't). Do we really need a possible cancer in the room? I say no. It should either be Howard or Larsson; not more old guys who haven't been the dominant goalies they once were in over a decade.

Chelios has been awful this post-season. The original debate was that if he played well, he'd be brought back. He hasn't played well, so who only knows what that'll have in store. I still like Chelios, but when it's time, it's time. After watching him play so far during this years playoffs, I don't know if he can play another year (or couple). I'd personally like to see the Wings add him to the coaching staff or something; if not that, then find some way to keep him in the organization. As far as him coming back next season, though... well... ...and whatever the case is for the defense next season, I want Lilja and Lebda GONE. I don't care if we have to use a bag of rocks to fill their spots, I've have enough of those two. Lebda is useless and redundant to keep in the lineup; he's small, weak, and has no offensive ability to speak of; all he brings to the lineup is speed (which, by the way, is a useless attribute if you suck in virtually every other skill imaginable). He's only holding guys like Quincey and Meech back. And Lilja? Do I even have to go there? The ideal situation: re-sign Stuart, keep the option for Chelios open, and bring in another veteran defenseman that can add toughness to the backend. Something like this would look good to me: Lidstrom - Rafalski Kronwall - Stuart Chelios/Quincey - Steve Montador Meech/Ericsson Chelios and Quincey can rotate as the #6-7 defenseman. Montador is a good, solid, #5-6 defenseman that'll add toughness to the lineup. He should come cheap as well, which will be good if Stuart commands a lot of money, which may put the Wings in a bind for making a lot of signings. This is just a rough sketch of what I'd like to see; it may change later on, depending on certain things.

Wow, I hate Pittsburgh. When is anyone going to give them some competition? That team is not as good as their current record shows. A good team should steamroll that pathetic defense.
-
This wouldn't be a Red Wings forum if that weren't the case. You know it's true.

Other than his age, that'd be the only other reason why I wouldn't want him back. Darren Helm, under any circumstance, must be on this roster next season; if he's not, I'll be leading a mutiny. I wonder if Drake would be fine with just being one of the extra forwards during the regular season, then come in full time during the playoffs, since that is when he plays his best. That is another possibility.

It's the noticeable empty seats in the Lower Bowl that are seen on TV. That's where these media bigwigs get their firepower from; if they actually went to the game themselves, they'd see it's a different story.

77 points in Finland? Those are some pretty good numbers, especially in the European leagues, which don't have as much scoring. Speaking of which, that is more points than Brunnstrom ever put up, so why was there not as much with Leino? Does the scoring in Sweden drop off that much that the numbers Brunnstrom put up, which was only about 30-40 points, seem more impressive than it really is, or is it because the offensive talent in Finland is that much better? Oh well, whatever the case may be, this seems like a good signing to me. Leino sounds like he has a lot of offensive abilities, which is good, because this team could always use more secondary scoring. Good signing.

Post of the year. Spot on, my friend. The last points I especially agree with you on. McCarty wasn't brought in here to score goals, nor was Downey. I think that's obvious for even the blindest bat to see. But the fans love those guys, because they play a tough, in your face style of hockey, and don't take s*** from other players. You could make that case for Drake as well (in these playoffs especially). That's also a reason why guys like, off the top of my head, Samuelsson are hated so much. Well, that's the main reason why I hate Samuelsson so much anyways, because he's such a *****. It'll always go back to the year 2005, when he struck Brenden Morrow in the face with his stick. Now, Morrow is a pretty tough guy, but Samuelsson has a significant size advantage, for one thing. Plus, I feel, that if you're going to hit a guy in the head with your stick, you should face the music and fight if that time comes, which it did. Samuelsson, instead, bitched out like a little girl. That's when I lost all respect for him. Another guy that comes to mind for that is Lebda. Lebda may be small, but that doesn't stop guys like Tootoo or Darcy Tucker from running guys over. If you want to go back to the past, I can also bring up guys like Dino Ciccarelli and Steve Webb into that catagory of guys that, despite being small, were some of the most physical and feared players in the game. Being small should not be an excuse to be a total wimp. Case and point: he was challanged by DOUG WEIGHT of all guys to a fight, yet bitched out like a little girl. This is not a heavyweight fighter we're talking about; it's ******* DOUG WEIGHT. A guy who probably has about 3 total fights in his entire career. I don't care if Lebda doesn't fight; if you're getting challanged to a fight from another small fish like Weight, you except that challange; not back off like a little *****. All that ranting aside, the Wings are finally playing with some passion in this postseason, and it's starting to show, since the crowds are finally starting to look decent at the Joe again (with the exception of Thursday's game. That was bad, guys, really bad. Especially since about half the people in the building left with 10 minutes still left in the game. 4-1 lead or not, you still stay until the end like a real fan, not walk out and leave just to beat traffic. Ugh). Guys like Drake, McCarty, and Helm are playing with the passion that Wings fans such as myself have been hammering for all season long. It's nice to see, and if it keeps up, I guarantee you the fan support continues to be as good, no, make that even better than it has been.

I missed the last round, so I have no chance of winning. But hey, I'll make my picks anyways. DET/DAL: 4-2 PIT/PHI: 4-3

My dad's an OEI member, so the discount should apply to me, right? Right? I was aiming for Game 2 tickets, but it's look like there already sold out. Hopefully I can still get some; I have "connections", so to speak, through work, so you never know...

Does Dabura still post here anymore? -
Thorne and Clement were the best. They should be the main broadcast team for NBC; they are both far and away better than Emerick/Olczyk. (I understand contract agreements probably prevent that from ever happening, mostly on Thorne's side; just thinking aloud is all)
