It's probably for re-signing Sakic. He still has a few years left, so I doubt he'd retire.

Welcome Flames fans! Enjoy yourselves, but don't be stupid.

After having a 2-0 lead earlier in the game too.

I thought my mind was playing tricks on me when we won a game with Rodney pitcing at the end. Great game, especially by Pudge. 3 run homer to win it. Next game is at Baltimore. Not sure their record so far, but it should be a good one.

I think Mack, who is the only Toronto fan here, is not terribly disappointed about the Leafs missing, since nobody thought they would come that close anyways. I honestly don't care. I personally would have rather seen Toronto in, because I prefer Original Six teams to all others, but the Islanders are fine. In all reality, the Islanders are a better team anyways.

Thanks! I hate Versus. I will miss listening to Kenny and Mickey in the booth. Oh well.

How do you figure? Although unproven, Dubielewicz has been playing some great hockey. Raycroft, on the other hand, has really been weak. J.S. Aubin had to come in and finish the game for him last night. Besides that, the Islanders have a lot more firepower than the Leafs. The Islanders have Smyth, Blake, Satan, Sillenger, Poti, Bergeron, and to some extent, Yashin. The Leafs had Sundin, Kaberle, and maybe McCabe. Any other guys that I could consider, such as maybe Antropov, O'Neill, or Steen, are often inconsistant. So really, just looking roster wise, the Islanders do have a better chance at Buffalo than the Leafs would.

I like Lalime personally. I always felt he got a bad rap in Ottawa, especailly after the 2003-2004 season. He did let in a few bad goals, but it's not like anyone was really playing in front of him either. He's had a couple of bad years since, especially last year in St. Louis. He is still a solid goalie, and hasn't been too bad at all this season for the Hawks (with the exception of last night of course ).

The Hurricanes are still a fairly decent team, despite not making the playoffs. I feel with the right moves, a healthy Cory Stillman and Frantisek Kaberle, and a couple free agent signings, the Hurricanes will be back to playoff contenders next year. This year, they really weren't that far out of it. One of the problems was the inconsistancies of Eric Staal and Cam Ward. That'll be corrected with age. Again, with the right moves I expect them to be making another run at it next year. Edit: I'd like to add something here. Carolina really did not give up many meaningful prospects last year when they traded for Recchi and Weight. In the Mark Recchi trade, they gave up Niklas Nordgren, who is no longer in the NHL, and Krys Kolanos (who we all know pretty well what he's like, what with the way he just walked off of Grand Rapids this year). For Doug Weight, they gave up Mike Zigomanis, who is a fairly decent centerman, Jesse Boulerice, who is a slug, and Erkki Rajmaki, who is also no longer in the NHL. So really, they did not give up a whole lot at all.

Woah. This is the first time in a while both New York teams made the playoffs at the same time. I would have preferred the Leafs personally, being an Original Six, but the Isles will do. They actually have a chance at beating Buffalo, where as the Leafs really didn't.

ALL ABOARD THE PAIN TRAIN!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with Lou on this one. Toronto is not good enough to make it past Buffalo. They just don't have much, and especially not enough to compete with a top notch team like Buffalo. If I was a Toronto fan, I'd actually feel more comfortable with J.S. Aubin in net over Raycroft. The way Raycroft played last night shows he really can't handle big pressure games. The Islanders, on the other hand, have a good chance of actually eliminating the Sabers, even if DiPietro doesn't come back. Wade Dubielewicz has been very solid in net, and gives the Isles a chance. Combined that with Ryan Smyth, Jason Blake, and an actually inspired Alexei Yashin, and the Islanders are a very deadly team right now. If they get in today, look out.

The Oilers could actually blow their chances at a very high draft pick if they win this game. Weird. They can't buy a win for about a month or so, now if they win it could cost them.
-
They'll sell out. Stop worrying. I'm sure CBC just had to throw that in there. Bunch of Wings haters. That's basically the way all forms of media are. Oh well, we'll show 'em. Go Wings!

I will be pacing my house until the series starts. Oh, I can't wait! I can't even sleep right now I'm so exited! The playoffs are here! GO WINGS!!!!!!!!!!
-
Welcome aboard, Flames fans. Should be a great series. I can't wait!
-
I personally think the Wings have an advantage. Despite being the #1 seed, nobody expects the Wings to win anything in the first round. We could use this to our advantage, and catch Calgary sleeping. I'm so exited! I can't wait! GO WINGS!!!!!!!!!!
-
Woah! Tie game! Heh, too bad the Av's lost. Things could have gotten interesting. Oh well.
-
Yuck... Not that he'll be highly effective as it is. When did he play last anyways? November?
-
Excellent post! The Wings have what it takes. I believe. It's time everyone else does too. GO WINGS!!!!!!!!!!
-
He's done. Don't count on it.
-
Hey, welcome back. It'll be a hell of a series. I am so exited!
-
We can take 'em. I have faith. GO RED WINGS!!!!!!!!!!

Also remember Calder played for the leagues worst team in Philly for over half the season until being traded to the Wings. Ryder, on the other hand, played for a playoff contender the whole season.
