Kopecky has torn ACL; out 4-6 months

I've never been a Kopecky fan, but he was actually playing half way decent lately. It's too bad that a guy who does (sorta) hit is out, while useless Hudler will now get more ice time than ever (whom, by the way, hasn't scored in 13 games, again). Oh well. There is some good that comes out of this, and that's in the form of more ice time for Downey and hopefully Justin Abdelkader as well (who looked great last night).
  2. If you're a true Wings fan, you'll still find a way to blame him for the loss.

    Sutter is anticipating Detroit

Sutter must be a genie. Only that could explain how he used his mind reading powers to learn that Babcock had planned on Downey throwing the game! Right? RIGHT?

    4/2 GDT: Blackhawks 6, Red Wings 2

Stop quoting them. You're best bet is to just not acknowledge their presence and ignore them.
  5. Fixed that last one for ya.

    4/2 GDT: Blackhawks 6, Red Wings 2

I, and I think along with every Wings fan, has been been waiting for Hudler all season long to pick it up, but it's not happening. He's been a real disappointment this season. At this point, I hope Downey is in during the playoffs, and Hudler is out. If Hudler isn't going to score goals (going on 10+ games again since he's last scored) he's completely useless to have in the lineup. Might as well insert some grit, especially since we'll be more than likely playing teams like Nashville or Vancouver, both of whom are filled with dirty players. Oh well. On to the next one.

    Detroit could be screwed

He's the color analyst for the Blackhawks (when they are actually on TV), so it shouldn't come as any surprise that he'd have his rosy glasses on when talking about them.

    2008 Detroit Tigers Season Thread

Wow. That was a terrible game. KC really made no moves to solidify a competitive team this season, so I have to believe this is a fluke. Given that the Tigers offense couldn't do squat today... well... I'm making plans to head down to a game soon, so they better not play like this when I go.

Boy, this is wonderful. Your team that hasn't won a Stanley Cup since dinosaurs walked the earth, yet you think their hot s*** just off of one meaningless win. Matt, or any mods in general, you guys need to get in here and weed out the trolls.

4/1 : the NHL on Versus

The good thing about the Oilers is that they should finish above .500, and overall a pretty good place in the standings (about 10th or so). Why is this good? Because now Anaheim is no longer in the draft lottery for that draft pick that was compensated to them in the Dustin Penner offer sheet.
  11. Yes. There is not a single defenseman in the league that can combine the offensive ability and defensive ability that Lidstrom brings on a nightly basis. He can shut down the best forwards in the league, and his point production, leadership, and many other qualities solidify him winning his 3rd straight Norris Trophy.

Edmonton Oilers sign MSU forward Bryan Lerg Nothing yet on MSU's website, but this is pretty much official.

    2008 Detroit Tigers Season Thread

The Tigers always struggle on opening day. And wouldn't you know it, it's always against a bad team. Oh well. They still played a decent game, and really, think about it - this team has way too much talent to not have a good season. They'll come through. With Cabrera, Maggs, Sheff, Granderson, and a lot of other great players on offense, the hitting power on this team is amazing. They should be able to put up a lot of points this season. Pitching (aside from the bullpen, which could still use some work) is great as well. Go Tigers!

    Who can clinch what tonight?!

What a monumental disappointment that would be if they ended up falling right out of the playoffs, with both Carolina and Washington making it. With regards to Ray Emery and Wade Redden: can you say throwing your team under the bus? On a side note - I'd love to see Washington make the playoffs. They have such an exiting team, and the offensive style they play would be good entertainment.

    Sharks upset in the Playoffs?

It's amazing that one player (Brian Campbell) is making that much of a difference for the Sharks. Alas, their momentum will probably slow sooner or later.

    Blackhawks to televise all games...

I'm a CI subscriber, so I could go either way, but I definitly agree with hockey fans as a whole. It's great that a big market team like Chicago will be put on a higher national coverage basis now, because WGN is available in a lot of basic Cable packages, so it gives those who don't have CI another option (and a possibly more consistant one than Versus) for hockey viewing.

    Blackhawks to televise all games...

Good for Chicago fans. WGN is a pretty big national network, so this will give the 'Hawks fans outside of Chicago access to watching their team. It's nice to see a fellow Original 6 turning it around. It's about time the 'Hawks rejoined the rest of the league and started to turn things around. It should make for a good rivalry down the road.

    Big Surprise on Versus Tonight

They air those three teams for specific reasons. Comcast, which owns Versus, also owns the Flyers. Do the math on that one. The Penguins have Crosby, so you definitly know their going to get plenty of games. And the Rangers are... well, the Rangers. New Yorks primary teams (IE the ones that play on Manhatten Island) are always a big draw, much more so than those that play in Brooklyn, Long Island, Jersey, etc. While I don't really agree with that criteria, those are, more than likely, the reasons why those three teams get so many games picked up.

    Weekend Picks

Nice weekend for me. 17 is definitly a lot better than what I got last weekend. Congrats to this weeks winner!

    So...what's the story?

Definitly agree. While McCarty is out of shape, no doubt, he still brings more to the table than Hartigan does. Hartigan is basically the Canadian version of Mark Mowers. He has decent speed, but really doesn't bring anything else to the table. In these last few games, where things could get rough from the doormats looking to take the Wings star players out (mainly because they have nothing to lose), it would be nice to have both Downey and McCarty in the lineup. No, it isn't going to stop everything, but it certainly helps. Plus, as a fight fan, you know I'll be more partial to having Downey and McCarty in anyways.

NHL looking at a 56.3M Salary Cap Next season?

    Sorry, that's what I meant.

NHL looking at a 56.3M Salary Cap Next season?

Filppula should command no less than 2 million, while Howard shouldn't ask for more than 1-1.5 (he may be the goalie of the future, but less than 10 NHL games of expierence does not yet warrant him a big contract). Stuart is the biggest in that list, and will probably ask for something around 3-3.5 million. Assuming this is what happens, how much does cap space does this leave the Wings? I doubt they re-sign Zetterberg and Franzen right away, and will probably wait until near the end of next season to do so, like they did with Datsyuk and Cleary. If the Wings do take that route, it should leave them with at least some cap space (don't know how much, as I don't have a salary chart right in front of me) to sign a decent player.

3/30 GDT: Red Wings 1, Predators 0 (OT)

The Wings probably could have ended that game much earlier, had they actually shot the puck once in a while instead of looking for the perfect pass every time. Oh well. They still won anyways, so I'm not complaining.
