    OFFICIAL: Forsberg traded to Predators

Naslund for Alek Stojanov was a lot worse than Roy for Thibault. The Turgeon for Corson trade comes close though.

    Decent Wings page

That is a good page. It has some good game reviews, and the stats on the sidebar are pretty cool also.

    LaPointe and Burtuzzi

You act like Lapointe is actually a tough guy still. Have you seen his fights this season? Give me a break. I'll take Fedoruk or Eager over Lapointe.

The second line useless? NO WAY!

    Seattle looking to join NHL?

Nashville has fans? Seriously, the Nordiques were a much different situation. They had true fans. Anyone who goes to Predators game are more than likely transplats from northern citites that go to watch because it's a hockey and they like hockey. I honestly doubt that a Nashville native is really in to the Predators at all. And I like to add a message to SouthernWingsFan: This is not a knock on the south, or the city of Nashville. But you can't compare the fan support of Quebec City to the fan support of Nashville. The only reason the Nordiques left in the first place is because they didn't have the corperate support, and up until their final season in 1994-1995, they were awful on the ice in all ways imaginable. If the Predators won the cup, or actually won a playoff series, then that might change fan wise. But their current attendance struggles say something about the situation right now. Edit: And just to prove a point that I'm not knocking the south, Dallas and Tampa Bay are southern teams and do great in all aspects. They sell out all the time, and their both good teams. The reason why I'm so critical of Nashville is that they are so good, yet the fans are being so fickle about going to the games. I will never understand why they don't go.

    MacDonald

Hey guys, what happens when Jimmy Howard has his first bad game? Do we deem he sucks and can't be a starter because he has a bad game? Or what happens if Hasek has a bad game? Do we waive him and assign him to Grand Rapids because he has a bad game? Let it go already. The game is already a week old, and pretty much forgotten about. Why this is STILL being discussed is something I won't understand.

    2/17 GDT: @ Phoenix Coyotes, 9:00pm

It was Patrick Stefan who missed the empty net. Everyone seems to forget that Stefan started the rally scoring when the Stars were down like 2-0 or 3-0 earlier in the game. It doesn't matter anyways, since Dallas still won. And I'd like to add: Even though Stefan was a former #1 overall draft pick and hasn't lived up to his offensive expectations, he's still a lot better than Williams. He's a decent checker, and he still has potential if he's given enough chances to develop.

Anyone Else Feel That Nashville Will Become A True Rival?

The Wings have a lot more history against the Blues and Hawks then against Nashville. Just because Jordin Tootoo sticks his foot out and trips people doesn't make the two teams rivals. They met one time in the playoffs, and it wasn't really a groundbreaking series to begin with. No, I don't consider the two rivals at all.

    OFFICIAL: Forsberg traded to Predators

Interesting debuts on both sides. Forsberg, the big man of the trade, has only one shot in about 19 or 20 minutes of ice time in a 4-1 Nashville loss to Minnesota. Scottie Upshall, on the other hand, scores the game winning goal in a 5-3 Flyers win over the New York Rangers. Kinda strange really.

    Should Detroit be Sellers?

It's funny how everyone mentions Williams as the deal breaker, but it's so far from that. When you think about, we'd be lucky to get a bag of pucks or a $20 dinner at Hockeytown Cafe for Williams. He has no real trade value at all. He would have to be part of a package of younger prospects or draft picks if we want to move him.

...you could be like Edmonton! Hey, that rhymes.

    We really need someone like....

His playing style is a fight-only goon who brings nothing to the table but fighting. While that was all fine and good before, it isn't now. And besides that, Bootland really doesn't play the role of sheriff that well either, so he won't really be there to protect anyone. What the Wings need are the those two off of Philly, Todd Fedoruk or Ben Eager. Those two would be perfect for the Wings. If they got either of them (or both) at the deadline, I'd be really happy.

What happened to our rivalry with the Avs?

The Polish Hammer! As far as the Wings-Av's rivalry goes, it did go out the door in that Game 7. The games against the Av's after that weren't as noticably good, even in the season to follow. On a side note though, It didn't destroy the Av's as a team, considering they took the Western Conference the next year, and half of their players won an award in some form or another. What ruined the Av's was blowing a 3-1 series lead against the Minnesota Wild in the 2002-2003 playoffs and getting sent packing in the first round. Ever since then was when it really went downhill for them. One of the factors in the Wings-Av's rivalry were the players who started the whole thing. On the Wings you had McCarty, Vernon, Shanahan, Konstantinov, Kocur, etc. The Av's had Lemieux, Roy, Forsberg, Foote, Deadmarsh, etc. These guys are all either retired or playing for different teams. Once you take out this group, there's really no rivalry left. Who on the Av's would really start it up again? Brad May? Ossi Vanannen? No, not really. And who on the current Red Wings team would fight back? Lilja? Samulesson? Probably not. So you can really see the consensus for why the rivalry is dead. If a new generation of players comes to both respected sides, there's a cheapshot or two, and these two teams meet in the playoffs, than maybe the rivalry could start up again. But I just don't see that happening in the near future.

To trade, or not to trade...

I'm about ready to jump on the "Holland Bashing" raft right now. If he really thinks this team is ok the way it is, he is probably one of the top 5 dumbest GM's alive. You know why Lang is playing so bad right now? Look who his wingers are. Williams sucks more than humanly imaginable. He does nothing on the ice except float. And Dan Cleary... He'll never live up to the expectations of being drafted #13 overall way back in 1997. I'm sorry, but he's not a second line player. He's a good defensive forward, and that's fine. But he needs to stop being depended on to score. Holland needs to get up off his fat ass and get at least ONE scoring winger. If he can't do that, then this team is done. Don't start the crap of "Well the Wings went 17-1-3 after they got Cory Cross" either. Pretell what was the Wings record in the playoffs? Oh yeah, a resounding 2-4. So apparently they weren't in shape for the playoffs. And their not now. So if he (Holland) doesn't get ANYTHING at the deadline, then don't expect the Wings to be playing past the middle of April.

This only happens in video games, right?

Just imagine if Forsberg was in that game. He would have been blown like a paper bag.
  19. Kp-Wings

    The Unthinkable could be happening?

Is this because they beat Nashville? So what, the LA Kings beat Nashville about a week ago, and I don't see anyone giving them a playoff prediction. They might still make it, but that seems very unlikely at the moment.

    We really need someone like....

You would go as far as to mention Bootland? We have him already, and he sucks. There is a reason why the Wings choose not to use him.
  21. Kp-Wings

    We really need someone like....

Trade Lang or Datsyuk for a young gritty player who can fight and score. WOAH! DIDNT SEE THAT COMING!

Sharks acquire Korolyuk from NJ for a 3rd

This guy has played his entire NHL career with San Jose. Now, if it were the Av's, they might even retire his number right next to Ray Bourque. In all seriousness, Korolyuk is not a bad player. He brings a lot of energy to the lineup when he plays, so if the Sharks do lure him back then it is definitly a boost for them. I always liked the way Korolyuk played, so this is a pretty good move for them.

    Craziest Deadline Scenarios/Deals

Grand Rapoids? I had no idea that the Wings began a deal with a new minor league affiliate.

    Nashville's record doesn't reflect it's team lately

We have plenty of hope. Even with Forsberg, there still plenty beatable. Look at how we've played them earlier this season. The two wins we shut them down pretty good. The one game where they lost, I don't know what really happened on that. But I still think we have hope. And knowing Forsbergs history, he'll break his ankle in about 3 or 4 games anyways.
