Nikolai Zherdev on the Trade Block

As good as he may be, he plays with absolutly no heart or enthusiasm at all. I give this a big resounding NO.

SFE: Wings looking at 'star player' by deadline

That probably won't happen. Mad Mike doesn't make the deals anymore.

SFE: Wings looking at 'star player' by deadline

That would be a semi-even payoff. But I'd much rather keep Zetterberg. He is much better defenseivly. Edit: 100th Post!

    Facing-Off: Barnaby

Interesting. Barnaby has a good way with words in an interview. That's nice what he said about his mother, and how important Mothers Day was for him. Also, funny read there on his thoughts of TO.

    Craig Rivet

If he's asking for a trade after being scratched once, that really makes him look bad. If any defensemen should be asking for a trade on the Canadiens, it's Janne Niinimaa. He hardly ever plays, and he's a healthy scratch most all the time. Considering he's the teams highest payed defensemen, and the fact that he's generally been a pretty good defensemen over the past few years, it suprises me that he doesn't play.

SFE: Wings looking at 'star player' by deadline

This deal really didn't favor either team, at least not in the long term. Weight went back to St. Louis, and Rajamaki as far as I know went back to Finland. On the other end, Zigomanis left to Phoenix, while Boulerice returned to Carolina. Magnus Kahnberg is the only guy left who stayed to the team he was traded to, and the report is he is going back to Europe possibly at the end of this season if St. Louis doesn't call him up. So as we look at a possible deal for the Wings, just consider some things. One, we do not want to give up any top prospects for potential free agents that may not resign. Guys like Hudler, Kopecky, etc. are all choices of who not to trade. Carolina sacrificed Kahnberg in the Weight deal, and Kahnberg was one of Carolinas top prospects. St. Louis gave up Rajamaki, whom they had trouble signing to begin with, but was still a part of their future plans. Guys who we should trade are people like Williams, Samulesson, Lilja or any others of the like. These are people who, except maybe Samulesson to an extent, are underperforming right now for the paycheck they recieve. If we do give up prospects, then it better be made sure we resign whoever it is were getting, whether it be Doan, Smyth, Forsberg , or whoever. Just consider the Doug Weight trade as a reminder. If we trade for a rental that we don't plan to resign, don't give up a decent prospect like Carolina did with Kahnberg.

    Philly

Why wait until then? Do you want to face teams like San Jose and watch them pound us into the ground because we have no toughness? I say get somebody now. Not Avery though. Avery is a dick, and he won't protect anyone. He'll just start crap and make guys want to kill him. Somebody like Lapointe or Fedoruk (my personal favorite choice, because Fedoruk has decent skill and fights people).

SFE: Wings looking at 'star player' by deadline

If we got Lapointe as a secondary trade along with a star player, I'd be really happy. Lapointe brings toughness that, quite frankly, this team doesn't have. But not just Lapointe by himself. Lapointe and a scorer like Doan, or hell maybe even Forsberg if he stays healthy will fit the bill perfectly.

Actually if they took Lilja, we'd be screwing them (yes, my flaring hate for Lilja appears once more). And for how utterly worthless Williams is, We need to keep him around as part of a package deal involving Doan or anybody else rumored.

    MTL tomorow...

Why are you going as far as to say it's an easy win? Montreal is one of the top teams in the East. They have good scoring good defense and good goaltending (although you said Aebischer is playing, but he's still no pushover). Montreal is not an easy team. Ahem, San Jose.

Hmm, Pitkanen has a lot of potential of being a top defensemen. Don't let his stats fool you, he's better that what it shows right now. He gets a lot of ice time, and since the Flyers are horrible, his stats are not going to look very good. If he gets to a better team, I think he'll play better. I just don't know who we'd give up for him. I'm totally against trading Schneider, and now Kronwall is finally playing up to expectations. Of course we can say Lilja, but then Pitkanen would be the odd man out, and that won't help him at all.

    UFA Targets

My thoughts to this: Goalies: To me, Howard is not ready to be a starting goalie. You have to be careful about giving him top minutes when he's still young. He hasn't been overly impressive in Grand Rapids this year anyways, so he needs time to develop. Defense: Phillips would be a great pickup. This is why I'm really hoping Ottawa continues to tank, so Phillips will want to leave. I still don't know why everyone counts on Schnieder leaving though. I think we should try and find a way to keep him, especially how well he's been doing. Forwards: Smyth is perfect. He's just what the Wings need up front. As for the rest, maybe one more cheap forward would suit the fancy. IMO, I think Williams should go, unless he picks it up. He makes too much.

    Pugilist Corner

    1. Cam Janssen or Chris Neil. Janssen is a good skater and has great speed for a fighter. Neil has a lot of good scoring potential, and can be used in a lot of different situations. Both bring more to the table than just fighting. 2. Eh, that's tough. Just a few names I'll throw in: Jordan Tootoo, Donald Brashear, Matt Barnaby, Bryan Marchment, Scott Parker. Those five top that catagory.

    UFA Targets

We can name off free agents that would be suitable, but Ken Holland has yet to confirm who he's going after. So any names mentioned are just guesses. WITH the exception of one: Aleksey Morozov. It was noted on MLive about a few weeks ago (I can't find the link, but I remember it) that the Wings might have been interested in Morozov if he decides to come back to the NHL. Now, while Morozov has been a scoring monster in the usually low scoring Russian Super League, he'll of course want a lot of money. Last summer, his reported price was in the 3.5 to 4 range, which is steep. If Kenny is interested as some speculate, I hope he can get Morozov to tone down the price. If worse comes to worse with Morozov, he'll make about the same as Draper. Hopefully he can score more than Draper does.

    Kolanos and Norton

Besides Johnson (who retired anyways), Kolanos was Hollands only real signing on forward. What a deadpan, both guy's aren't even playing with the Wings now. It's too bad, Because I alway's liked Kolanos. I think he's a lot better than Hudler, but Hudler gets the free ride (one-way contract).

Ryan Smyth is unhappy in Edmonton right now

Kevin Lowe: I'll take it! We can only hope anyways.

    Valeri Bure

This is not a rumor or anything, but what happened to him anyways? I thought he'd be a decent, cheap pick here until I heard about his injury last season. Is he still looking for work or done?

things heating up in trade land

You say what you want, Doan is still better than Pavel Datsyuk. Why? 1. He performs in the playoffs (Phoenix hardly ever makes it, but when they do he delivers). 2. He has more grit than Datsyuk. 3. He can perform at a high level even if he doesn't have Pavel Bure calibur players on his line. We all know Datsyuk doesn't do s*** unless he has franchise players on his line. There are other reasons too, but those are the three biggest.

If we got Shane Doan Holland would instantly redeem himself with me. The chances of us getting Doan are not too bad actually, since Holland and Phoenix GM Mike Barnett get along good.

    Alexei Morozov

I'd take him for anything below 1.5 mill, just because that's how much Lilypad makes. And Morozov can, at the very least, put up decent numbers, where as Lilypad doesn't anything.
