Early Predictions Wings out in First Round

Haha, yeah right. "Fairweather clown"? Good one! If you read back on my posing history, you'll see that my opinion of the Wings has been the same all season long. That's far from being fair weather fan, even if it's a somewhat negative opinion. At least I'm consistant, unlike many of the people on this forum.

Early Predictions Wings out in First Round

Of course they do. But Luongo is still good enough to carry a team, and if the Wings scoring all of a sudden goes south (like it has at various times this season), he could easily shut the Wings down. Hey, I've expected it every year since the Calgary series in 2004. Sorry if that bothers you, but that's just the way I am. As far as the Wings are concerned, we've seen this movie before. The Wings have a great regular season team, but they collapse in the playoffs against more physical teams that play the neutral zone trap. And, given recent history, you can bet that their first round opponent will more than likely play the trap, or some style similar to it. Last year was an obvious exception, so don't throw that at me. But still, I don't feel all that confident about the Wings going into the playoffs. It's the way I've felt about this team since the beginning of the season, and if you don't agree, than tough s***. This is an internet forum, and everyone has their own opinions.

You're expecting the smallest, weakest, and least physical team in the league to pick up their hitting? Hey, I agree, but with this roster, it isn't happening. We might as well appriciate what guys like Stuart and Downey can bring in the physical sense, because nobody else sure as hell has what it takes to be physical on this team. Kopecky could, but he's got such terrible balance that he falls down everytime he tries to hit someone. And Lilja... well, we won't even go there, for sanity's sake... I'm still holding out hope that San Jose and Anaheim play each other in the 1st round, so at least one of them is out of the way, but it'll take a major collapse by either team for that to happen... and since both of those teams are on winning streaks (San Jose especially), I don't see it happening.

Early Predictions Wings out in First Round

Oh, I see. So consider that the team playing in front of him sucks dick and can't score goals, yet losing the Anaheim series still all comes back to Luongo somehow, and it's his fault. Uh huh. I watched that game today, and I didn't see anything well played about it. The homers behind the rosy glasses will have apparently have to find a different excuse now.

Early Predictions Wings out in First Round

Why is that such a ridiculous prediction? Luongo is about a trillion times better than Dwayne Roloson, yet he shut the Wings down only two seasons ago. Or has everyone already forgotton about that?

    Man I love this kid

What? That he's not a real fight fan, and just spewing stuff right out of his ass? Hey, even I could have told you that on first glance. ...and yeah, I agree. How anyone cannot give Lucic a defininte win for that fight is just plain stupid.

    Man I love this kid

Are you kidding me? Loses his balance? This isn't Steve McKenna we're talking about here. Bradley is a decent middleweight fighter, and unless there is some unknown rut in the ice, he's not just going to topple over like a condemned building. In this situation, though, he got smoked by Lucic, and it's as plain as day. There is honestly no reason for Lucic to go after the heavys. That is Shawn Thornton's job. Lucic is not a heavyweight fighter, despite his size, and evidence of that is his two earlier fights against guys like that earlier this season. He's a middleweight fighter, and guys like Bradley are in his own terms.

LOL! I'm surprised Matt hasn't given this guy the boot yet, especially after the whole posting etiquette thing came about. He's not using F bombs per say, but he's still trolling. Internet tough guy indeed, as I bet this guy is nothing more than some 12 year old wuss hiding behind a computer. He's probably one of the same trolls that pollute the MLive forums on a regular basis.

    Downey with the first star!

It's posts like this that really show off the stupidity of this forum. McCarty hasn't played in damn well almost a year or so, and he can barely skate or handle the puck himself, and yet you're already calling for him to be the replacement, and say that's he's better. He didn't even win a single fight last season, and got his ass kicked by the very same Ian Laperriere last season that Downey forced into the turtle position this season. I have nothing against McCarty, and I'm glad he's coming back. But if you're calling for him to replace somebody, then do it for someone that actually should be out of the lineup because they don't do much more than a pile of s***, like Hudler. ...and the reason why everyone loves Downey is because he is a good guy, a good teammate, and sticks up for guys when they get run at, something that nobody else on this team has the balls to do. You know, not everyone has to be a small, skilled European or kill penalties to have a place here.

    Valtteri Filppula

Great post, and I completely agree. Some people on these forums overrate guys to a ridiculous extreme. Filppula is an ok player, but why the heck would anyone throw an offersheet at a guy who will barely crack 20 goals this season? Filppula is not a top flight goal scorer like Vanek or Penner were last season, nor is he by any means a franchise player. Filppula is a small forward with good skills that might put up around 55-60 points sometime in his career, but even that's not a given. He'll be a solid two-way player, which is great, but that is not going to fetch a ridiculous offer sheet like what Edmonton threw at Vanek and Penner (unless Lowe really is THAT stupid). The same people who are insisting that Filppula will fetch multiple 1st round draft picks in an offer sheet are the same people who said Hudler will be a 40 goal scorer this season, or that Samuelsson, Meech, and a draft pick will somehow land Marian Hossa in a blockbuster trade. It's ridiculous.

    Franzen

If he could become a better fighter in the process, why not? He needs to use his size more, and effectively. If he does, he becomes a very effective player in the NHL.

Cheli needs to be sat for a while

That statement is about as true as Eliot Spitzer being an honorable citizen. It's hilarious how people continue to support Lilja on this forum. Why exactly? He makes one good play every 30 games, and in between, he makes about 1000 bad plays that usually cost the Wings in some way. I can't wait until the day he's finally off this team, and I never have to see that POS in a Red Wing uniform again.

    Downey with the first star!

He really had only less than three total minutes? Wow, that must be an NHL record for someone to get the first star, albeit a miscue, playing that little of ice time. See... I told everyone how valuable Downey is. Now, it's etched in writing.

Wings clinch Central Division title (whew!)

Yet, I guarantee that when the league darling San Jose Sharks clinche their spot, they'll already have their championship DVD on sale and everything. Besides Anaheim, there is no team I want to see crushed more in the playoffs than San Jose. They are easily the most overrated team in the league. It's so funny how everyone hated Joe Thornton in Boston, but now in San Jose, he's regarded as a world hero. I hate that stupid team, just because the media overrates them to such a ridiculous high regard, when they flat out don't deserve it.

Video to spark the return of the Mac

Get used to it. People are always going to hate Fedorov (some, anyways) because of the way he left. While I admit it was wrong of Holland to pull away that extra year in the contract he offered, why was it such a big deal to Fedorov that he got 5 years instead of 4 years? That's such a trivial thing in my opinion, and he should have never left in the first place. I wouldn't mind Fedorov back, at the expense of someone like Hudler or Samuelsson.

    Pronger at it again

I fail to understand how a guy should only be suspended if the player on the receiving end of things get's injured. Jarkko Ruutu was unharmed during Simon's tirade, yet Simon still got 25 games. Double standard. Likewise, a couple of years back, guys like Martin Havlat and Ville Nieminen were suspended for kicking other players, but the players they kicked were not injured. Havlat is by no means a scrub, but I doubt the NHL considers him on the same level as Pronger, since Pronger has won a Norris Trophy (plus he's always hurt). I'm sorry, but just because no injury resulted doesn't justify what Pronger did. The day he get's a proper suspension for his actions is the day a dark cloud is finally lifted over the NHL.

    Franzen

...and that's because a couple of weeks ago, he was playing as bad as Hudler. Franzen has played really great lately, and I hope he keeps it up. The Wings very very badly need a consistant secondary scoring threat, and he can keep this pace up, he'll compliment nicely with Cleary and Filppula, forming a pretty decent second line. You're not going to get anything more than what you're seeing now from guys like Hudler and Samuelsson, so hopefully, a guy like Franzen will pick up the slack. If he only he had more of a mean streak, he could quickly become a fan favorite here. I don't know why he doesn't, because with his size, he could really be a physical force.

    The Ovech-Kam

Did you happen to read the part where I said I have no problem with that, or just not even bother? The reason I said the comment was a joke was because the term "laid back" was used. That was it.

    Pronger at it again

Pronger ******* blows. Duck Guy, I know you're an Anaheim fan and all, but how can you seriously defend Pronger for his actions? Kicking, stomping, anything involving the skate is the most gutless act in hockey possible. If he wants to defend his teammates, than maybe he should drop his gloves for once, and stop being a ******* *****. He's such a gutless loser, much like Chris Simon is. These guys who choose to use their own equipment as weapons are classless pricks that don't belong in the league. I don't care what possible light you look at it in, YOU DO NOT EVER STEP ON ANOTHER PLAYER WITH YOUR SKATE. That can almost be considered a criminal act if he hurts him bad enough. Heck, Alexander Perezhogin had criminal charges after he wholloped Garrett Stafford in the face with his stick in the AHL a couple of years ago. Likewise, the same goes for Jesse Boulerice when he lumberjacked Aaron Long in the OHL a few years back. I don't see it as any different. Sticks are not allowed to be used as weapons, and in no situation should skates be allowed to either. That piece of s*** get's away with more than anyone else I've ever seen in this league. If he was some 4th line scrub, his ass would be toast in the NHL, but because he's considered a star defenseman, nothing happens to him. It's a damn ******* shame to see the direction the NHL has gone in these kinds of matters.

    Your opinion on Ericsson

Ericssons tenure with the Wings is over... at least for this season. But, I felt he was pretty impressive in his seven game stay. Despite being a minus player (and that's only because of the teams losing streak), he was solid defensivily, and even came out with his first NHL goal. He wasn't as physically imposing as I thought he would be (because of his size), but that's something he said he needed to work, which he'll get better at over time. Overall, he did pretty good with the Wings. So, that brings up the question, do the Wings give Ericsson a spot next season, or at least keep him on the roster? Babcock seemed happy with his play, and Ken Daniels has mentioned at least 2-3 times a game that he thinks Ericsson will stay. If that does indeed happen, where does it put the rest of the defense? Where does that leave Kyle Quincey, since he has to clear waivers next season? Do the Wings re-sign Stuart if Ericsson stays up? Does this finally signify the end of Lilja and Lebda in Detroit? What about Meech? The best case situation would be to re-sign Stuart and Chelios, keep Ericsson up, if he has a good training camp, let Lilja walk, dump Lebda, and let Ericsson, Quincey, and Meech battle it out for the spot. If that does happen, this is sort of how the roster would look: Lidstrom - Rafalski Kronwall - Stuart Chelios - Ericsson, Quincey, Meech That defense looks great to me, and it gives a couple of young guys a chance to try and earn a roster spot. By all indications, this is probably what the defense will look like. It's unsure that Stuart will re-sign, but hopefully he does, and the Wings clear out the dead weight guys, whom I've already mentioned. At that case, the Wings would have an influx of defenseman, but having eight healthy defenseman isn't a bad thing, since it will always keep everyone at the top of their game, at fear of losing their spot. What is your opinion on this? Should the Wings keep Ericsson up? It's a given that Quincey will be up next year, and if Stuart and Chelios re-sign, that leaves one extra spot. It'll create some healthy competition for three guys to go after that final spot, and it should keep them playing their best hockey.

    TSN Scouting Reports?

TSN's scouting reports were not written by TSN; they were originally written by the Sports Forecaster, and posted on TSN. It's been rumored that they'd be writing their own scouting reports from now on, but I'm not sure of that. If you still want to see the players old scouting reports, I think that there are some other websites that had the scouting reports posted on their player profile pages as well.

    The Ovech-Kam

Is that some kind of joke? I'm sorry, but when I see Ovechkin celebrating regular, meaningless goals like he just scored the winner in OT of Game 7 of the SCF, anything but laid back comes to mind. I think he's a phenominal player, and it's great that he shows his emotions, but that doesn't put aside the fact that he is a hot dog. I have nothing against that, because it's nice that at least some players in the league aren't robots that are mechanically controlled by the team owners. It's just that the term "laid back" doesn't fit Alex Ovechkin, at least not in my opinion.
