Pretty good signing. Schultz is a great defensive defenseman, and he fits the Wild's system very well.

This is the line I can't stand. Why does everyone assume that, just because a guy is cheaply paid, it means he doesn't have to be a good player? Ledba is extremely replaceable. The Wings need size and grit on the blueline, not another small guy, who is actually not even an offensive minded defenseman. If Lebda could put up points, I'd be fine with him here, but he can't. All he can do is skate fast, and that's about it. Samuelsson is f***ing useless. He's about 6'2, yet doesn't play physical at all. He's a streaky scorer who can't put up points on a consistant basis, making him unreliabable as a goal scorer. Everybody applauds his defensive game, but I don't see Babcock using him on the PK or anything. Samuelsson is terrible, and if he, along with Hudler, are still on the Wings roster come playoff time, I will scream. Oh... and by the way... when has anybody complained about Draper, Maltby or Drake for not scoring? Nobody complains about Draper, only one or two people have complained about Maltby, and Drake is complained about because he doesn't do anything useful. None of them have been complained about for not scoring, though, at least not from what I've seen.

Too bad Ference got hurt. This could have been his chance. I don't know anything about Stafford, other than he's a career AHL'er up to this point, and he was on the wrong end of that ridiculous stick swing by Perezhogin. We'll see what he can do I guess.

Hossa also wants money, which is something Detroit may not give him. They still need to re-sign Zetterberg, among other things.
-
He was scratched in a game earlier this season. Hudler should be waived, or sent somewhere far away from this team. He's been absolutley pathetic over the last month. What has gone from a seemingly normal slump has now become just plain awful play. He hasn't scored in 16 games, and when he's not scoring goals, he brings nothing to the lineup. All he is now is a wasted roster spot. He needs to be gotten rid of, because he is exactly what the Wings need less of. If he's this much of a non-factor in the regular season, just imagine how bad he'll be in the playoffs.

That's the exact reason why the Wings need to aquire a defenseman or two at the deadline. The Wings defense, especially Kronwall, seems very brittle lately. Plus, the bonus is that if everyone's healthy, the new defenseman can replace minutes that would otherwise be used by liabilities such as Lilja.

Canucks win 4-2.

There was an Arturs Irbe one as well.

Meech has a couple of ok games, and now all of a sudden he's looked at as an untouchable prospect. The same works when Lilja has a few good games. Puh-lease! Meech is very tradeable. If a team actually wants him, you do not think twice about giving him. Guys like him can be found in a garbage disposel if you look hard enough. In all seriousness, the Wings have a guy named Logan Pyett in the minors, who is exactly the same type of player as Meech, but better. Since the Wings have him, as well as a bunch of other defensive prospects waiting in the minors/juniors, there is no reason why the Wings should keep Meech. He's not the second coming of Bobby Orr, so don't act like giving him up would be the end of the world. I'll admit, he has played somewhat better recently, but I still don't like Meech, and he's very replaceable. If a team wants, they can and should have him.

Nothing wrong with that. It sure beats the hell out of spending hours creating every player manually. It takes forever to use the "Create Player" feature, so roster updates are definitly a nice feature to have.

Did our friends at LetsGoBlues make that?

Keep in mind that Steen is a European, though, and we all know how Brian Burke feels about that... I really don't buy any of these Sundin will rumors, but when you put it that way, I guess it makes sense. I don't know, but I'm under the impression Sundin will not be going anywhere, and he'll be painted a villian in the Tornto media for not doing so. I just have that feeling... Of course, all will fall into place on Tuesday, so we'll wait until then...
-
Sign and trades usually only happen in arbitration cases. I don't really see Toronto giving up a good, young prospect like Steen, since he's one of the few building blocks they really have. Of course, this is the Leafs we're talking about, so...

Iginla, ala Captain Visor, is a douchebag as well, so don't stick up for him. Remember in last years playoffs he was trying to get Zetterberg of all people to drop the gloves with him? Anytime Iginla get's his ass kicked, no matter what the case, I'm happy. I hate that guy so much. The fact that Ott hit him when he was down just makes me even happier, since you know that Iginla would do the same thing (while hiding behind his visor as well).

Yeah, same here. I'd love to have Salei. He'd add some grit and toughness the Wings so desperately lack on the blueline. I think he'd be a great addition for the playoffs, and would be a nice replacement for Lilja. YoungGuns1340: can you confirm if the Wings are one of the interested teams, or has that not been announced yet? Thanks.

How? That was just another usual Ken Holland cliche article. How many times has he said the line "We may make a deal, but we may not. I'd like to, but we can't give up too much" in the past weeks leading up to the trade deadline? It really doesn't mean anything, because he says this sort of thing every year. Lilja is big too, though, so anything is possible. Right?
-
Yeah, I'm sure about half of this forum does.

You're kidding, right? This is Hal Gill we're talking about. The guy is 6'7, yet is a soft as a goose down pillow. He never uses his size, has no offensive ability at all, and is absolutley horrendous defensivily. If you think Lilja is bad with the puck, you haven't seen anything until you've seen Gill. It's awful watching him. Murphy and Macoun were a lot different than Gill. Each one of them had abilities they could bring to the table: Murphy was an offensive, puck moving guy, and Macoun was more of a physical, stay at home defenseman. They both were brought here because they addressed certain needs, and it helped that they could be brought in for cheap, and didn't have big salaries to pay either. Gill is neither of those things. He can't put up points, and he's not physical either. He is the perfect example of the type of player that has, for the most, gone extinct in the new NHL, and that is the big, slow guy who can't skate, and has to maul opposing players down like a giant bear. Even in the pre-lockout NHL he was still terrible, and always has been. People are being fooled by Gill's size. He's a terrible defenseman all around, and since he doesn't use his size at all, it would make no sense to have him here.

Hudler sucks. I wouldn't give a damn if the Wings got rid of him; in fact, I'd be happy. He hasn't scored a goal in 15 games now, and is not pulling his weight here at all. Filppula... I don't really want to give him up for a rental player. If the Wings can get somebody else in the deal (though I really don't know who I'd want off the Leafs), or they got a long-term player for Filppula, I wouldn't mind giving him up. But for a rental? No way.

Judging by the Ellis situation, I doubt McCarty will really replace Downey. He'll more than likely just switch in and out of the lineup with him for different games. Or, if say in a game like against St. Louis or somebody, he and Downey might play at the same time. It really doesn't matter either way, because you and I both know neither Downey nor McCarty will be getting a sniff of ice time in the playoffs. For whatever reason the Wings plan on signing McCarty, which I'm pretty surprised at, because I doubt Babcock will play him at all in the playoffs.
-
Campbell is so overrated. Sure, I'd take him on the Wings if the option was presented for not giving up much, but not at that asking price. This is just proving more and more that the lockout did absolutley nothing for the NHL. From what I understand, it was supposed to stop player salaries from reaching such ridiculous Alexei Yashin-esque standards. Yet, instead, you got guys like Daniel Briere making eight million a season, and guys like Campbell asking for six million. Oh well. I expect to see him playing for another team by the deadline, or at most, by next summer.

What a joke. Hossa would make more than Lecavalier, Ovechkin, Kovalchuk, and a whole boatload of other top players in the league, all of which are better than him. I hate Hossa. There's no denying his talent, but his personality is not what this team needs. He's nothing more than a greedy, one-way street that cares only about money. He wasn't happy in Ottawa, now he's not happy in Atlanta either. What makes anyone so sure that he'll be happy in Detroit? Because it's the Red Wings? Because their a good team? Sorry, but that didn't seem to be enough of a point to keep guys like Shanny and Fedorov from leaving, so... I would rather the Wings invest in some other option. If they get Hossa for somewhat cheap (if that's even possible), or are able to sign him to a reasonable extension, then I wouldn't be against the move, but otherwise, I don't want him. He's not a 10 million dollar player.

Who is the other goalie? It looks like J.S. Aubin, but I'm not sure.
-
I guess if you look at it that way, but Ellis is only making 475K, which is the absolute league minimum in terms of salary. I don't really see how Ellis' salary would have been a sticking point for LA to want him. But, on the other hand, I guess your scenario makes sense. Hopefully this is the first step to getting Brad Stuart here in Detroit.
