Tell me about it! I can't believe all the people around here saying "Wow, Lilja is playing some great hockey lately" and stuff of that nature. He's a turnover machine for crying out loud! The fact that leads the Wings in hits is such a terrible stat anyways, because often times nudging a guy can still count as a hit. Want an example? Dustin Brown, who I like very much mind you, has well over 200 hits this season, and is approaching 300 or something. How many of those hits do you think are actual big hockey hits though? With Brown's case, maybe 100 or so, because he is a very physical player, but there is no way that every hit in that total of his is an actual hit. Sometimes, just touching a guy can count as a hit, which is sickening, but for some reason it counts as such. Lilja is a mistake waiting to happen in the playoffs. He is terrible with the puck. He's already proven in two different playoff series that he cannot play when it really matters. It's even more ridiculous that the Wings want to sign him to a contract extension. Kyle Quincey must be counting his days down in GR, because at this rate, he'll never get a shot with the Wings.

Why not both? The Wings, for as good as their record is, have very little depth, and injuries are common in the postseason. If guys like Ellis and Meech are going to be getting regular minutes in the playoffs, I really don't not like the Wings chances. There are a couple of guys that I had in mind. One is Chris Gratton. He provides the perfect element of size and grit, while still being able to produce points. The other is Ryan Malone, since he also plays the same way. Malone might cost more to give up, though, and he also plays for a team that's still in the playoff hunt, so it'd be easier to get Gratton. On defense, I'd like to see the Wings go after someone like Brad Stuart, Steve Montador, or Mike Commodore. Heck, I'd even take Marek Malik, for the right price of course. The Wings very much absolutley need depth on defense. Kronwall is a huge risk factor, and they should not have guys like Meech playing regular minutes in the playoffs. Plus, they need more physical players back there, and some of these guys (especially Montador) will provide that. LOL!

Yeah, I thought the same thing. I don't what to say about Stuart. He's been in the league for about 10 years or so, but has not even came close to the expectations that came with his draft selection (#3 overall). I mean, as a depth move, I certainly wouldn't mind it, and he's a lot less mistake prone than Lilja. Stuart isn't a bad player, and as long as Kronwall continues to toil on the IR, the Wings need depth on the blueline. Stuart would be fine for a playoff rental if they don't give up much for him, and hey, if he plays well, he could even be re-signed by the Wings.

I think a bag of beans could offer more to the team than Ellis. He'll never amount to anything in the NHL. If the Wings want energy guys, why don't they try playing players who actually provide energy? Ellis doesn't do that at all. I wouldn't see the difference in playing Downey over Ellis. It just seems like guys who fight get a bad repuation with this organization anymore, and I seriously can't figure out the reason why. At least fighters provide a certain element to the lineup. The Wings have too many guys like Ellis that provide absolutley nothing at all. He's not even used on the PK, so why exactly do the Wings still continue to have him? On the subject of Maltby: he's grown steadily useless over the years, but, I'm a bit biased towards him. Besides that, he's still better than Ellis, when it comes down to it.
-
Absolutley pathetic effort by everyone not named Zetterberg. Can I ask why Matt Ellis was in the lineup? That guy brings nothing at all to the team. At least with Drake, all be it the dinosaur he is, he'll at least give you one rare hit a game. Ellis doesn't do s***. I know it's the LA Kings, but unless there are injuries, that guy shouldn't be in the lineup. One thing I noticed tonight was that it seemed like career underachiever Brad Stuart was playing harder than I've ever seen him play. He really had a hell of a game. I'm wondering if he was trying to make a case for the Wings management, because it's been rumored he'd be coming here... On a positive note, since there weren't many, I got to watch the game in HD tonight, and man, what a difference! The picture is so much better. I now know the expierence of watching sports in HD.

Roenick could take Larry's place in the broadcast booth. Now that would be a huge improvement...
-
Haha... those were great. Remember the "homeplate slide" and "fireworks show" ones they had? Could you imagine if players did that on a regular basis? The league would be so much more entertaining.
-
Bigger? Well, he looks the same size to me... I'm impressed with Datsyuk's play this season. He really did a great job carrying the play and the team when Zetterberg when was hurt at various points in the season.
-
Who is that? The really tiny guy on Dallas?
-
No, he won't. The Leafs are a bunch of pansies. Belak and Ondrus are about the only ones that don't play like feathers on the Leafs lineup. When you see guys like Antropov, Ponikarovsky (I don't even think I spelled his name right, which shows what I think of him), Gill, and Kubina that range from between 6'4 and 6'8, yet none of the fight at all, it's the most frustrating thing as a fight fan that you can possibly imagine. Such wasted potential. Besides that, when has Babcock actually put Downey in the lineup in a game when there weren't injuries? God forbid he ever changes things up a bit, because we can't afford to take those game breakers like Kopecky out of the lineup.
-
Haha... I won't deny that. If it wasn't for the fact that he can kill penalties, he'd be toast on this team. I swear, that quality alone is what keeps these extinct players like Drake alive in the NHL, since the Wings value the ability to have 20 guys that can kill penalties. I commend Drake for sticking up for Lidstrom earlier in the season, but when the Wings signed him, I was under the impression he was going to play physical, something he has not done at all. Oh well... having Drake around gives me yet another whipping boy for me to rag on...
-
...and since he blasted them so much, and so blantly stated that they would not make the playoffs, you can most certainly bet the Ducks will find themselves in the playoffs now.
-
Yeah, right... and he'll go with Belak next, eh?
-
You may be a fan of his, but I'm not. Don't criticize me over it. Just because he plays for the team I root for, doesn't mean I have to like him. Besides: I complimented him. Something I don't often do.
-
Wow... it would seem even the most useless of players can score at important times. Congrats to Brett Lebda: that's probably the last compliment you'll get from me all season, so savor it. Hasek played phenominal. What a great job he did. He really kept the Wings in the game, since the defense was playing so terrible tonight *coughMeechcough*. Hasek really stood on his head, and he played a great game. Great to see he's coming around, and finding his game. ...and of course, there's Dan Cleary. Keep him around for as long as you can, Wings management, because he's so key to the Wings success. If Holland let's him get away... ooh, will the insults come flying in... even more so than before.
-
No, he wasn't. Read the post I quoted; he mentioned Samuelsson.
-
Roenick > Samuelsson, Kopecky, Drake Not a big Roenick fan, but he'd be more useful than all three of those guys. I know I'll probably get eaten alive by the Kopecky bandwagoners for making that comment, but I don't really give a s***.
-
Ryder is a more capable scorer than Samuelsson. In his rookie season, he scored more goals than Samuelsson's scored in his first 4 years in the NHL. The Wings need more scoring depth, and Ryder will provide that, something Samuelsson does not. Plus, how can you call Samuelsson hard working? No, he's not Robert Lang or anything, but he's not the 2nd coming of Dan Cleary either. His so-so defensive play should not be any reason the Wings should keep him, because he's terrible in all other aspects.
-
Didn't stop Holland from getting Kyle Calder.
-
1. Crawford 2. Trotz 3. Hitchcock 4. MacTavish 5. Gretzky I don't know how you can all hate Tortorella, since he's one of the few guys in the league that actually has a personality, and doesn't give the usual "cookie cutter" interviews that over half the guys in the league usually do. He's funny as hell sometimes, since he never holds back. ...and as tempting as it was to put Ron Wilson on that list, if it weren't for him, we wouldn't have access to that comedic gold that's still funny 10 years later... HANTA YO BABY!!!!!!!!!!
-
He better not leave. The Wings are the only team he's actually done anything. Plus, he's one of my favorite players on the Wings, so it's especially important he stays.
-
It's very doubtful that two teams in the playoff hunt will trade with one another. Yes, I know the Habs play in the East, but more often than not, the players you see being moved are from non-playoff teams. I would take Ryder for Samuelsson. As a back-to-back 30 goal scorer, on non-playoff teams no less (something Samuelsson has never achieved), he has the potential to be a great hockey player. He's a right handed shot as well, which would negate Samuelsson's presence on the team (about the only thing he does bring, really). Plus, it's a good thing that Ryder is a UFA, because if he doesn't work out, the Wings can just send him off on his own way, and not be stuck with a big contract. I don't really see the trade happening, to be honest, but you never know...
-
It's great to see he's finally getting healthy. I love Moreau, and it's too bad he'll probably retire an Oiler, because I'd take him on the Wings in a heartbeat...
-
I'm surprised, if your actually being serious. I'd think that a fight fan like you would realize what a chump Kopecky is, and is not going to be the player people overated him to be around here. He has one good game, and all of a sudden people are calling for him to be the new 2nd line center. Ridiculous.
