    Red wings and Sharks Both...

Flash back 10 years ago to 1998, and that comment my be appropriate. I'd say now that Antropov's "potential" is never going to be reached, as is evident by his current career. Antropov is like Brad Stuart, who still, amazingly, has people waiting for his potential to be untapped, when it's about 10-11 years too late with him as well.

Oh... but wait, Lou... haven't you heard? Kopecky is supposed to be this big, unstoppable power foward that the Wings have. He's even been compared to a young Todd Bertuzzi. Now why, oh why, would he be benched? He's going to be a star in this league, I just know it! And he's definitly better than that old goon Gratton. What are you thinking!!?? ...hehe... I love poking fun at peoples ideas of what Kopecky is on this forum...

    The Fight Thread

Haha, now there's a name I haven't heard in a while When I first seen Dingman fought, I wondered to myself: why did Calgary waste a 1st round pick on this guy? He can't even fight that good. At least go with the safe bet, like... say... Wade Belak.

    Weekend Picks

I've got to be due for a good week sometime coming up. 11 isn't bad, but it's still not all that great either. It's definitly been a struggle, for sure. Congrats to interminded to Aussie_Wing!

    With all the Hossa/Sundin Talk.

Haha, I don't see how Samuelssons point production is going to make up the difference lost when giving up Jokinen. It's funny how everyone hates him here, yet everyone also overates his trade value to just plain ridiculous levels. You're not going to get a star player for yesterday's trash. Samuelsson played in Florida before, and they got rid of him. Why exactly would they want him back? He sucks. Nobody in the league is going to want him, unless it's either for a really s***ty player with a large contract, or last weeks TV guide. If the Wings were to get Jokinen, they'd have to give up a variety of players. I'd expect one, two, possible even three from this group: Hudler, Filppula, Kronwall, Kindl, Quincey, Helm, Howard, Ritola. Along with those names, there'd also be draft picks involved, either in the 1st or 2nd round. From what I've heard, the Wings haven't been one of the front-runners to get Jokinen, so I don't know how interested they are. I don't believe one second of Eklund's bulls*** rumors, but there probably is a better chance Jokinen ends up in Calgary than Detroit.

    2007-2008 NFL Playoff Thread

Wow! What an upset! I was rooting for the Pats, but it really doesn't matter to me. This will make for a great storyline now, anyways. Somebody jynxed the Pats by posting that book before it even happened. That was really not a great Super Bowl, for the most part, but the 4th Quarter was a pretty good ending anyways. That was entertaining down the stretch.

    Worst Trade in NHL History?

Johnson is going to be a much, much better player than Gleason. I love Gleason, because he's a tough guy that plays hard every night, but he doesn't have the offensive capabilities that Johnson has. Recchi helped Carolina win a Stanley Cup. What have Nordgren and Kolanos done for Pittsburgh? Nordgren played only 15 games when he got there, and didn't get a single point. Kolanos didn't even play a single game with the Penguins. Both players were released at the seasons end, and therefore, did nothing. Keven Veilleux is the only guy left on Pittsburgh from the deal. If he becomes a good player, then I'll change my opinion of the trade, but right now, I think the deal favored Carolina and not Pittsburgh.

    2007-2008 NFL Playoff Thread

As easy as it is to root against New England, I'd still like to see them go the prefect 19-0, just because it's something that doesn't happen very often. Go Pats!!!!!

    Ducks Losing Streak

As usual, everyones knee-jerk reaction on this forum suggests they will be out of the playoffs. While it would definitly be nice to not have to deal with the Ducks (because they are a huge threat to the Wings, in my opinion), they will still make the playoffs. Maybe if they go on a 15-20 game losing streak, then talking about their downfall would make a little more sense, but 6 games is a little premature. It's still a tossup who will win that division anyways. I'll be very surprised to see San Jose win it, because they are the most overated team in the league since the 2005-2006 Ottawa Senators. It'll either be Dallas or Anaheim who take that division, and I bet it'll be Anaheim.

    Toni Lydman to Wings?

I think you just answered your own question.

    Maxim Afinogenov

I love the talent that Mad Max can bring, but his desire to win is very questionable. If we got him for cheap, then I'd be fine with the move, but I wouldn't want to give up anything of value for him. He is, after all, having a very bad season.

    Darren McCarty Progress Thread

That'd be great. McCarty would actually be an upgrade over Drake right now, but since I don't see that happening, I'm pinning my hopes for next year.

Rob Blake gone for 2-3 weeks

Wow! I've never seen anyone so blinded by their own nostalgia in my life. Fine, go ahead and think that way. I have to say, though, that I think it's extremely funny that you're saying that Blake would be ineffective on this team because of an injury, yet Fedorov has missed the past 10 games to a concussion. What exactly is the difference?

    2/2 GDT: Red Wings 3, Bruins 1

Pretty boring game, but it's good they still got the win. Congrats, also, to Brian Rafalski for a career high in goals (10).

Rob Blake gone for 2-3 weeks

Hopefully this lowers his trade value now. ...and for the guy going on about Fedorov: you need to get real. Fedorov has been hurt even longer than Blake has, and is even more washed up. I will never understand why people want Fedorov back on this team. It must be nostalgia, because you all cannot be stupid enough to believe that Fedorov, who is moody, washed up, and overpaid, will really help this team. He hasn't been an effective player in nearly 4 years. I don't want Fedorov back. If he Holland does go out and get him, and it's for dirt cheap (like Samuelsson straight up for Fedorov) then that's fine, but if he gives up anything of actual value, I'll be extremely pissed.

    Worst Trade in NHL History?

Here are some more pretty bad trades: 2007: Carolina Hurricanes trade Jack Johnson and Oleg Tverdovsky to the LA Kings for Tim Gleason and Eric Belanger (loser: Carolina) 1996: Ottawa Senators trade Pavol Demitra to the St. Louis Blues for Christer Olsson (loser: Ottawa) 1994: Quebec Nordiques trade Mats Sundin, Todd Warriner, Garth Butcher, and a 1st round draft pick (which became Nolan Baumgartner) to the Toronto Maple Leafs for Wendel Clark, Landon Wilson, Sylvain Lefebvre, and a 1st round draft pick (which became Jeff Kealty) (loser: Quebec) 1983: Colorado Rockies trade their 3rd overall draft pick in the 1983 draft (which became Pat LaFontaine) for Dave Cameron and Bob Lorimer (loser: Colorado) 1989: Toronto Maple Leafs trade their 3rd overall draft pick in the 1991 draft (which became Scott Niedermayer) to the New Jersey Devils for Tom Kurvers (loser: Toronto) 2003: St. Louis Blues trade Mike Van Ryn to the Florida Panthers for Valeri Bure (loser: St. Louis) 1996: Montreal Canadians trade Pierre Turgeon, Craig Conroy, and Rory Fitzpatrick to the St. Louis Blues for Shayne Corson, Murray Baron, and a 5th round draft pick (which became Gennady Razin) (loser: Montreal) 2003: New York Islanders trade Raffi Torres and Brad Isbister to the Edmonton Oilers for Janne Niinimaa and a 2nd round draft pick (which became Evgeni Tunik) (loser: Islanders) 2006: Pittsburgh Penguins trade Mark Recchi to the Carolina Hurricanes for Niklas Nordgren, Krystofer Kolanos, and a 2nd round draft pick (which became Keven Veilleux) (loser: Pittsburgh) 2002: Montreal Canadians trade Arron Asham and a 5th round draft pick (Markus Pahlsson) to the New York Islanders for Mariusz Czerkawski (loser: Montreal)

    Lapointe to the Wings

Lapointe sucks ass. I'd rather have McCarty or Chris Gratton.

Something that should make everyone happy...

It'll probably never happen. Montreal's record will be untouchable. Even if they bomb out and fall into last place for a long time, they'll have far and away more Stanley Cup's than any other team in the league.

    2/1 GDT: Red Wings 2, Avalanche 0

No, McCormick didn't do anything after that. He was pretty much unheard from the rest of the game. As much as the "anti-Downey" crowd on here wants to deny it, I will still stand by the fact the fact that Downey does make a difference in the lineup. After that little incident, McCormick did nothing the rest of the night, where as before he was constantly hitting guys after the play. Coincidence? I think not... Considering the Wings are playing a tough team like Boston today, the Wings better put Downey back in the lineup (it sounds like Babcock might do so, which is good). There are plenty of guys Downey might go with on Boston, as I'm thinking of someone like Jeremy Reich.

I can't take it anymore RE: Game DJ?

Agreed. Of all the songs he plays over and over, "Hey Hey Hockeytown" is the worst of them all. Do you also notice that, not only does he play it after the Wings score, but he also plays it during every commercial break? I mean, come on. Why the f*** would anyone play the same song that many times in the same game? The Wings DJ isn't terrible, but he could be better. If he stops playing "Hey Hey Hockeytown", and along with some other stuff I don't really care for, I'd like him better.
