    Trade Deadline Deals

Haha, funny you should bring that up. Malik would definitly become the new whipping boy on these forums if he was aquired, even if the Wings only gave up a bag of pucks and a half-eaten sandwhich to get him. He skates like he has anchors tied to his feet, and he's about as mean and nasty as a box of kittens. He's one of the most frustrating players to watch, because he really has no specific role he can play. He just... kinda... exists... Sather is a damn fool if he thinks he can a top 4 defenseman for a guy who's in the pressbox regularly on a team that already has one of the worst defense groups in the league. He might as well take a low draft pick or something, because that's all he's going to get when it's all said and done.

    Hehe, that's better.

That's what makes it so funny when the Wings don't sellout. This season, they've averaged an attendance of 18,000-19,000, which is still far and beyond more people than a sellout at a variety of other arena's in the league (Boston, Nashville, NY Islanders, etc). So, technically, the Wings are still drawing larger crowds than other teams in the league (by default of course, since they have a bigger arena).

    Trade Deadline Deals

Forsberg blows. I honestly can't understand why anyone would want a guy that hasn't seen NHL ice in nearly a year, and hasn't had an injury-plauged season in nearly 4. He makes Lindros look like Doug Jarvis in the relm of games played.

    Jordin Tootoo

You should probably use something else instead of this for your arguement, because a lot of hockey fans hate the Wings anyways. If you go on a Blues forum, would they give the Wings a good name? Haha, I love Tootoo discussion threads, because it's funny how everyones feathers get all ruffled up by the thought of it (him playing on the Wings that is). A simple "no" could suffice just fine.

    Shelley to Sharks

I like Shelley, but the chances of him playing for the Red Wings are about as likely as Josh Langfeld becoming a 30 goal scorer. It isn't going to happen.

    David Koci on waivers

I know what you mean as far as the skills aspect goes, but if the Wings were to have a one-dimensional heavyweight on the team, I'd rather have it be someone like McGrattan, or whomever else is rumored to be available. I still don't view Koci in the light of a very good fighter, but that's just my opinion.

Emery late for practice once again

As the delusional members here at LGW would say: how could you give up a top 6 forward like Tomas Kopecky for that useless goon McGrattan? ARE YOU INSANE!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?1 Sorry, I just had to have fun with that. It's too bad John Ferguson Jr. isn't the GM of the Sens, otherwise we might actually see that trade go down...

Emery late for practice once again

He fought McGrattan in a Sens practice a few weeks ago. He could actually be an upgrade over Kopecky.

Hey, come on... I complain about Illitch just as much. I feel left out...

    Wings Playoff Roster

Hah, tell me about it. Kubina plays like a pillow, yet everyone throws his name around as the "big tough defenseman the Wings need". He's about as tough as Lebda, if that's any indication. Besides that, Kubina is under contract for a while I believe, and makes a lot of money. No sense handcuffing the team for years down the road with an overpaid sponge like him.

Great news! Hopefully this is a furthening step to him coming home and being a Red Wing again!

    David Koci on waivers

...haha, that's so true. I couldn't believe how big the "anti-Downey" crowd was around here at the time. Now, *most* everybody wants him to stay. Amazing, isn't it? As for Koci: I really don't think much of him, and my general consensus is he's very overrated. He has good size, but his fighting capabilities are about on par with Brad Norton (ok, maybe not that bad, but you know what I mean). I like that he's willing, but he hasn't had a real good showing at all this season. He's not getting wasted by other fighters, but he's not winning either. Plus, he's a terrible hockey player. If the Wings were to have a heavyweight, I'd rather it be someone like McGrattan. Koci really doesn't impress me at all, since he's a sub-par fighter, and he's awful at everything else. I honestly can't believe Chicago had him at defense of all positions, since he makes Scott Parker look like an olympic speedskater. Honestly, I like Downey better. Downey can handle more minutes, not be a detrement to the team, and fights just about as much as Koci does anyways. Downey is a better fit on this team, and he's who I'd rather have.
  14. That's really funny. Great work by whoever created it.

I'd much rather have McCarty over Drake or Kopecky. I'd welcome his return if he decided to, and hopefully, the Wings give him a shot if he deserves it.

    ...hehe...

Emery late for practice once again

Their personalities are pretty similar, come to think of it. I think that little speech by Iverson made Best Damn's Top 10 for sports blowups, or something in that mix. I'd have to watch the particular special again to remember what the catagory was.

Lidstrom willing to make a call to Sundin

Sundin for Hudler, Samuelsson, Kopecky, Lilja, Lebda, and a conditional draft pick. Make it happen, Kenny! Jeez... I think that just about covers all my regular, everyday whipping boys on the Wings roster. Oh, wait... I forgot about Meech.

    Kirk Maltby

Yeah, I feel the same way. I do think Maltby has been very useless since the lockout ended, but he's a true Red Wing, and for some reason, I can't complain about him like I do others. He's remained loyal to this team for many years, and I think he should be rewarded for that. Maltby isn't a useful player anymore, but I still think he still has a place on this team. I wouldn't want the Wings to get rid of him, as he's a guy who should his finish his career in Detroit.

    Who we watching?

Why is this always the breaking point with people? If the guy doesn't put up points, he all of a sudden doesn't have a place on this team. You can't tell me guys like Kopecky, Drake, Lilja, etc. put up decent points offensivily. They don't. I still don't see why that's always the roadblock with people here when enforcers are involved: if he's not a 20 goal scorer, he has no place on this team. Yet, at the same time, people are clamoring for useless players like Kopecky to be the new 2nd line center. I don't get it. ...and besides that, find wherever I said we need tough guys to be goal scorers at the same time. I never said that. It would be nice, but when I look at the current makeup of this team, with guys like Kopecky and Drake up front who contribute little to absolutley nothing, a tough in general who doesn't score would be fine with me. Heck, it would be great to have a heavyweight on this team from a fight fan perspective, since it's been a good 10 years or so since we've had one. Like someone else said: if the Wings had a full time tough guy, this teams record would be no worse than it already is. Unlike what everyone around here tries to say, enforcers do not destroy teams. Considering the useless dead weight this team has up front on the 3rd/4th lines, I don't see how having a tough guy would hurt them. At least the said tough guy would contribute something, where as players like those of whom I already mentioned are only there to take up space.

    Man I love this kid

That'll be, what, the third trade the Bruins and Ducks will have made this season? I wouldn't be surprised if it happened, considering he's the type of player the Ducks look for, and the Bruins are extremely well known for giving up early on good prospects *coughBRADBOYEScoughcough*. But... aquiring Lucic is nothing compared to that epic deal that brought former Red Wing All-Star and future HOF'er Mark Mowers to the Ducks. I hear their already planning a jersey retirement night for him now.
  22. Kp-Wings

    Jackman possibility?

Yeah, but none of those teams are rivals of the Wings either. You can't call Columbus a rival, nor Minnesota, and the Wings hardly ever play Atlanta. Unlike the situation with the Blues, there isn't a lot of hate with those other teams.

Should the NHL drop the All Star Game

If the NHL made the All-Star Game more important and actually mean something, then it would be better. The NHL should do what MLB did with their All-Star Game: whoever wins will get home field during the playoffs. Take that same concept and incorperate it with the NHL All-Star Game, and you'd suddenly see a much more competitive game. I highly doubt that'll happen, but it's a topic worth discussing. They recently brought it up on XM Home Ice this past week, and it's a pretty good idea in my opinion.
  24. Kp-Wings

    Jackman possibility?

Thank god someone else on these forums understands this fact. I was trying to tell people this last year during those ridiculous Tkachuk and Mayers to Detroit rumors. The Blues hate the Wings, and are never in their team history going to make a deal with the Wings. Besides that, JD hates Illitch. He's publicly criticized him in the past, so what makes people think he'll all of a sudden start making trades with him? People need to finally realize that the Wings and Blues will never ever make a trade with one another. Division rivals almost never make trades with one another. The odd exception seems to be Chicago, who has been a trading partner with the Wings in the past, but I don't see that situation coming about with St. Louis.

    Who we watching?

I figured it was that way with a specific few, but now it seems like the whole forum (besides those of us who post regularly in the fight thread) are against having any sort of player like that. It's gotten much worse.
