Why do you say that? Because he's not swedish? The Wings have an ultimate tendancy to bring back former players. They brought Drake back, who, at times, has looked like McCarty looked last season (that being not very good). If McCarty did come back in game shape, what's to say that the Wings would not bring him back? I'm not saying it will happen, but I'm not saying it won't happen either. Anything is possible. There are other guys who play his role that I would want more, but at the same time, I do want him to finish his career here in Detroit. Considering they brought Drake back, who is no different than McCarty, it's not totally ridiculous to think he could be brought back.

It would be great for him to retire a Red Wing, and that's the way it should be. I just hope he can find his form again, or something close to it.
-
Don't worry: unless it's Sean Avery or Patrick Eaves, he won't even think about it. Lou: Malone is in the center of trade rumors all the time (along with Colby Armstrong). He'll probably be traded at some point, but I seriously doubt it'll be here.

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=226408&hubname= Tough blow for the Avalanche. First Sakic, and now Smyth both gone for an extended period of time. They could be in for a rough season now.

Don't be so literal. Their opposing teams fans, that of a division rival no less. Their not going to sit there and ride the Wings coattails all game and say how awesome they are if that's what your thinking. Heck, I'd be ashamed if they did that. It would make them pretty terrible fans, for one thing.

Don't get your hopes up that they'll be "selling" to Detroit. I guarantee that, despite the Wings and Av's not being rivals anymore, the two teams will never ever be trading partners.

Campbell would be a great addition, but the Wings invested 5 years into Rafalski (who hasn't impressed me much this season), making that deal almost impossible. I would like to see Aaron Ward back in Detroit. I liked the guy when he was here, and he'd be a huge upgrade over Lilja to bring back. Plus, he's a former Wing, and has that going for him as well. Other than that, I would like to see Rolston or Ryder brought in for more secondary scoring.

Was the last game a sellout? I wasn't sure about it. So far, as far as I know, there has been 3 sellouts this season (November game against Chicago, the game against Washington, and the New Years game against St. Louis). Not great, but it sure beats that sports columnist for SI (can't remember exactly who it was) that said the Wings wouldn't have a single sellout this season back in October. Hopefully, this keeps up and calms down the attendance talk and negative press involving Wings fans. I might try to make it down to a game myself, but that's something I haven't completely decided yet. I live a good 2 hours from Detroit up in Bay City, so I have to make time to do so.

I can't even begin to comprehend why the Lions fired Martz. The reason said is because the Lions never run the ball, but who the hell do they have that can do that? Kevin Jones sucks, and Duckett is never given a chance. I don't know how you can blame Martz for all of that, because he has no resources to work with. The Lions should fire Marinelli instead. I think he's one of the worst coaches ever. Why? Because he never changes anything up. Even when the Lions are getting blown out of the water, he still puts Kitna, Jones, and every other underachieving loser out onto the field. How come he can't play any of the 2nd string guys? At this point, they can do no worse than what the starters have done for the past few seasons. Thank god the season is over. Now all we have to look forward to is yet another losing season next year, while starting over completley from scratch. Roy Williams is assured gone, so there goes our best reciever. Calvin Johnson better live up to his potential next season, or do something. It almost makes me cry every time I'm reminded they passed up Adrian Peterson for him.

How much do you honestly think a tough guy will cost? Heck, the Wings got Larry Murphy from Toronto for "future considerations" which basically amounted to nothing. It's not like going after a tough guy is going to cost the Wings good prospects and high draft picks. Tough guys with skill are few and far between in the NHL anymore. Players like Probert in his prime don't exist in today's game. The only two I can think of that even come close to that is Lucic in Boston, and Daniel Carcillo in Phoenix. Neither of their respective teams are going to let them get away, so it's not even worth discussing trying to get them (though it would be great to have a player as well rounded as those two). As long as Downey and Drake continue to do their job, I'm fine with what the Wings have. But I'd still like to have a heavyweight on the team, either way.
-
Drake has his visor off now, and if he continues to fight and defend his teammates (like he did last night) then I have no problem with him in the lineup. He isn't what I expected when they signed him, but then again, injuries or coaching could be the main factors there.

Hehe, when you put it that way, there's always room for improvement. I would love McGratten on this team, but knowing Holland, that'll never happen in a million years. I really don't see him hurting this team, because unless he get's tagged with an instigator penalty every fight, he's not going to put us shorthanded. Plus, you can't use the excuse that the Wings wouldn't be able to role 4 lines every shift, because they don't do that now anyways. Zetterberg and Datsyuk are being doubleshifted almost all the time. The 4th line, usually consisting of Downey and the AHL callups, is only out for 2-3 shifts a period. That is not exactly "rolling the lines" all the way through, if you ask me. When you look at the offensive production from other players this season, such as Kopecky and Ellis, you can't say guys like that are doing anything special. Kopecky, whom I've never liked at all, has played somewhat better lately, but he's still awkward and get's knocked over even by a strong breeze. And, of course, he's still not using his size very often, which frustrates me to no end. Ellis is even worse, as he does absolutuley nothing out there at all, except skate around in circles (which oddly seems to impress people, because it comes off as "working hard"). Kopecky has some potential, so let him stick around for now, but Ellis really does nothing at all, and it really irritates me when he's in the lineup over Downey. McGratten doesn't need to play in the playoffs. He can sit the bench, like he did with Ottawa. But, I really see no harm in keeping him around during the regular season. He's a charecter guy, and one hell of a good fighter, and I guarantee even the most anti-fighting crowd around here will take a liking to him. That's just my opinion of it. I don't think it'll happen, but anything is a possibility.

Lethbridge Hurricanes and Everett Silvertips are my two favorites. I love WHL hockey, and it's the most exiting of all the junior levels.

I'd rather seem them call up Mark Cullen or Adam Keefe this time around. Give somebody else a chance here or there, since Hartigan really hasn't done anything to overly impress.

As much as I'd like to see a real heavyweight on the team, like someone who will drop the gloves every game and kick the crap out of people, I know it won't happen in a million years, so I've given up on the arguement. It's become redundant, if anything. I like Drake and Downey just fine. Their two charecter guys who both stick up for their teammates, which is something this team majorly lacked last year. Their decent fighters in their own regard, and can keep up with the middleweights of the league. Plus, both of them have given me a good fill for fighting, and I hope they continue to do so.

Downeys Conversation with a St. Louis beat writer this morning
Kp-Wings replied to sticknmove's topic in General
Almost happened. Heh, I don't know what to give his fight with Walker. He did take him down, but then again, he didn't land any solid hits. Sticking with the trend, it's basically a draw. I'd like to be a homer on that one, but... -
I'd take him. He's a UFA at seasons end anyways, so if he doesn't work out, he'll just leave. The Wings need better defenseman. Anything to take ice time away from Lilja is fine with me. Lilja has cost us in 2 playoffs now, and I don't want to see how he'll do it in a 3rd. Aquire Blake, and have him take up Lilja's spot. Besides: we need someone better for the 2nd PP unit. Lebda and Samuelsson suck pack there on the point. If you bring Blake in, you get somebody to play that role who knows what he's doing, and he has a good shot. I see no harm in bringing Blake here to the Wings, as long as they don't give up too much for him.
-
How is it overly dramatic? This guy is supposed to be our 2nd line scoring, but instead he plays like s*** almost every game. You guys support Samuelsson way too much. He's sucking everybody back into the vaccum (sorry Heaton, but I had to steal your line there) with a couple goals the past few games. Did anybody notice that he's still playing badly regardless of those goals? I hate Samuelsson. I hope this is Babcock boosting him up for a trade, because I can't stand seeing him play for this team anymore. He ******* sucks: simple as that.

Yes it is. It's too bad he retired. He was playing for the Kings not too long ago, but I guess injuries, and the fact that the NHL frowns upon fighting now, got the best of him. As for the outdoor game: Yeah, I agree with you. You had to figure there wouldn't be any fighting in that, though. Bettman thinks that fighting is what is making the NHL's reputation bad, when really, it's what draws fans to the game. You never see anyone sitting down during a fight at a game, well, at least I don't. Oh well. The outdoor game was still somewhat interesting, probably because it's a novelty item in hockey now. I wonder what the actual ratings were...
