Jet - Get What You Need

Are you talking about the outdoor game?
-
The internet has a powerful voice apparently. I remember the walkout last year. What a waste. Hardly anybody even left that game from what I can remember.

Samsonov on re-entry waivers Looks like he could find a new home after all. Teams only do this (place players on re-entry waivers) when they know someone will claim him, because it doesn't seem likely he'll be back on the Hawks roster.

Urghh... I completely forgot about this today. I'm probably in for yet another disappointing week, especially now with a -4 to start the weekend off. Stupid league parity this year has made this impossible. Oh well. Here goes nothing: Saturday: Philadelphia @ Tampa Bay Los Angeles @ Colorado NY Rangers @ Toronto Washington @ Ottawa New Jersey @ NY Islanders Boston @ Atlanta Carolina @ Columbus Buffalo @ Pittsburgh San Jose @ Nashville Edmonton @ Minnesota Detroit @ Phoenix St Louis @ Dallas Anaheim @ Calgary Sunday: Philadelphia @ Florida Los Angeles @ Chicago Montreal @ NY Rangers Anaheim @ Vancouver

I love how you emphasize "Canadian". I agree with you, though. The Wings do need more North American grit, and those guys would be great to have here. I think Rob Blake could be a real possibility to consider. The Kings will be the first team to be mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, and as someone on XM Radio pointed out earlier: they'll most likely be shopping him to a Western Conference team to ensure that the Ducks, their obvious cross town rivals, don't win the Cup again. I love the trade deadline. I really hope the Wings get somebody good this year, and in the process, get rid of the garbage still on this team *coughSamuelssoncough*

Almost 10 years since the final episode aired, and TV's greatest show still lives on. Seinfeld will always be the best. Great article. I liked Osgood's on Holmstrom and Hudler. If that happened, then we'd all know the true meaning of a Festivus Miracle.

I really don't know how much of a "discount" 7 and a half million is, but when you consider Lidstrom's track record, along with the fact that a guy like Rafalski is making only about a 1 million less, that's a fair amount. With today's ridiculous free agent signings, Lidstrom could have easily garnered himself 10-12 million from a rival club without even blinking. It's nice to see he cares about staying here, though, and has loyalty to the Wings organization. He's a great guy. Great signing, and it's good to have him on the team for another two years.

Franzen didn't even land a punch. That was absolutley terrible. But hey: it gives us another fighting major, so we're not last in the league. He needs to take fighting lessons from Lilja. You know the PAIN TRAIN wouldn't let that kinda stuff go on. He wouldn't even have to land a punch himself, yet he'd still strike so much fear in his opponent that he'd still come away with the draw. Look up the word "intimidation" on the internet, and you'll see Lilja in action, beating the crap out of Laraque. Or, look up the word "toughness", and you'll see Lilja doing the same thing, only this time on Boogaard and McGrattan at the same time. That, my friend is the power of the PAIN TRAIN.

Hehe. This thread should earn NFM's classic stamp. Great game by the Wings tonight. It was so nice to send those bastards packing, and in their own building no less. On that note: It's cool that the divisional play has become more intense again. The Wings - Blues rivalry looks like it could be awakening from it's long slumber. Also: kudos to Franzen to taking Jackman out like that. Although his "fight" against Walker was pretty bad from his standpoint, it still counts as a fighting major at least, so that puts us up to 13 on the year. Gotta keep up with the rest of the pack.

The cheap...er seats (not those $9 *obstructed view seats) are probably the best. Basically, anything in the Upper Bowl that's not obstructed view is a good seat. Some of the Lower Bowl seats are ok, but they really aren't worth the ridiculous prices.

616? Since when?

You guys are hilarious with the Lilja jokes. I'm going to ballpark it here and predict that Lilja makes up for his awful game on Thursday with a fight in either today's game, or the game on the 26th. Who's with me?

Of course Samuelsson doesn't fit in. He ******* blows, and I've been telling people this from day 1. His goal against St. Louis the other night was his first in over a month, and even despite that, he didn't do dick in that game. If he's not scoring, he's the most useless player on the Wings. I have a laundry list of grievances with Samuelsson. For a second line player, he hasn't scored hardly at all this season. He has a whopping 4 goals this season, which is pathetic, cheap contract or not. Hudler and Filppula both make less money than he does, and get less ice, yet they both have more goals. So for anybody that tries to defend him because *he only makes 1.2 million a season* your excuse fails, because there are guys on the team right now that make less money than he does, and still have more points. Even Kopecky is closing in on his goal total. ...and that's just the not scoring part. His lack of physical play, espeically for his size, is so infuriating. It really shows the direction this team is when it comes to physical players. He pulls up whenever he goes into the corner to get the puck (I have not once seen him finish a check), and his constant ***** behavior of punching guys in the face with his gloves on, yet running away right after that and not answering the bell, is getting old in my book. Also: his defensive play people talk about on here is mainly a myth. Just because he skates back and can keep up doesn't make him a good defensive player. Maybe it's just me, but a guy who can take the puck away, or take an opposing player out of the play physically qualifies as a good defensive player. Not a guy who just skates back and pretends to take him out of the play by standing next to somebody. Samuelsson is basically like last years Jason Williams, only for some odd reason, people defend Samuelsson's play, which they did not do for Williams. I don't give a two s***s if the guy is swedish (which automatically means he get's a spot on this team) or only makes 1.2 million a season, he sucks and is not producing. If he was scoring, I'd lay off him, but he's not, and is playing terrible. As for the proposed Mike Ryder trade: I wouldn't mind it, since it basically means Samuelsson would be gone off this team finally. Ryder is a more capable goal scorer than Samuelsson, as back-to-back 30 goal seasons can speak for that (on a non-playoff team with no true #1 center no less). My problem with Ryder is he is extremely one dimensional, and since he's not scoring this season, it's hard to find out what he could do (ala what his role would be) if he doesn't score. Ryder could revitalize himself here, which would be great. If not, than the Wings simpily just let him walk. He's a UFA at seasons end, which makes the trade good in the Wings favor. They'd be clearing off Samuelsson and the extra year he he has on his contract, and they'd be getting a former 30 goal scorer in return. If Ryder doesn't work out, they let him leave, and fill that line with either a prospect or a decent UFA during next summer. I think the trade would work well, and it makes sense for the Wings. Whether it actually happens or not remains to be seen. Samuelsson is both Holland and Babcock's golden boy (especially Babcock, who has not even considered benching him yet this season, and gives him so much ice time it's ridiculous) so it looks like he'll be around for a while unfortunately.

The loss was inevitable. You can't win them all, and I don't know why everyone is throwing the season away because of that one loss. Besides: St. Louis has the Wings number right now, and for a variety of reasons. The biggest one, I feel, is toughness. But... that's another story for another day. In all, I actually enjoyed the game. Nice to see a fight, and from Dallas Drake no less.

If you have DirecTV go to channel 636, which is FSN Detroit. They usually black out the games if you're not in the Detroit area (it'll be on one of the CenterIce channels), but they do get the postgame stuff on there after the game is over.

Oh, I think he'll get better. No doubt about that. He hasn't overly impressed me at this point is what I'm saying. Plus: note that part about me wanting him on the Wings. I'd definitly love to have a guy like that, since it's a resource we have so little of. Downey is the only guy who brings that element of play to the Wings, which means they more players like that. He has room for improvement, but I'd definitly like to see him here. edit: quote tags messed up

Hah, I noticed that also. Both of them are pretty big guys (Boll is 6'3 or something, and Lucic is 6'4 and almost 250 pounds) but neither of them qualify as heavyweights. Especially Boll, because he's not a very good fighter at all. Boll doesn't impress me much. He's starting to become a punching bag out there, because he's getting in all these fights, but not winning any of them. Heck, Downey pretty much had him beat, and Downey just got done with a long shift while Boll just got on the ice (Lou, you will debate that, but I can't give credit to Boll in that fight. The homer Blue Jackets announcers gave hime more credit than he deserved). I admire his cander for leading the NHL in fighting majors at this point in the season, but he needs to start winning some fights. He's reminding me a lot of Brad Ference back in the 2001-2002 season: starts a lot of fights, but loses all of them. But... if the Wings surprised me and got him, he'd definitly be a favorite of mine.

Obviously it isn't, and I've been saying it all along. If Ohio needs a hockey team, put it in Cleveland. It's a bigger city with more hockey fans, and more minor hockey, way more so than Columbus. Columbus is nothing more than a college football town. It's all anybody ever cares about in that city. (and yes, I'm aware that Cleveland lost an NHL franchise before, but so did Minneapolis, and look at how good their fan base is)

Heh, maybe Lilja would if they did. They no longer have world heavyweight champion tough guy Denis Gauthier (who could turn Boogaard into a coffee table) so perhaps he won't turtle this time.
