Jagr isn't physically imposing as far as checking, but he's really hard to knock off the puck, and isn't afraid to stand in front of the name and use his size there. Yashin... eh... on the other hand...
-
Good for them. Armstrong is really not a very good GM (although he does like fighters! ).
-
I don't think Lilja has the you know what to take on someone like Mayers. I'd be very surprised to see anyone fight in the game. The Blues have a ton of fighters, but the Wings don't. With Samulesson out tonight it would have been a perfect game for Downey, but obviously team management and coaching felt otherwise. Not expecting much tonight... but... Lou, you did predict a fight...

...why? Does he want to be publicly humiliated? It's not a bad idea, really, but Bettman is so hated in the hockey world that I cannot see any positive responses coming out of this. In fact, I see it more or less people calling up to say how much the NHL sucks (myself included, as I wouldn't mind venting). They better have screeners, for his sake, because Bettman is going to get chewed up and spit out by virtually everyone that calls...

I'll hold you to it Lou.

I don't like Lilja either. I couldn't believe the amount of people who were riding his coattails earlier this season, when really, he has done nothing special. He played absolutley terrible in last nights game, and has never really been very good in any given game this season. If he's going to be replaced (which I highly doubt, because Babcock loves him), I'd rather have it be for someone physical, though. Perfect example: Brad Ference. I really don't like Meech. If the Wings dump Lebda, then fine, play him. But until that happens, I really don't want him play that much. He is better than Lilja, I will say that, but I highly doubt Lilja is going anywhere until seasons end. Babcock likes him for some reason. I'd go even lower than that. Make it Eric Brewer.
-
Hey, I've heard of him. Wasn't he drafted by the Wings a few years ago?
-
Lilja was getting scratched last year because the Wings had Markov. Now, the only other defenseman on the team is Meech. It's either him, or a callup for GR. As you've seen, I do not think very much of Derek Meech. We already have Lebda playing the role of small, non-physical, offensive minded defenseman on this team, so why bring on another to do that? The Wings have enough small players 2 inches or more below 6'0, they don't need another one.

Todd Jones can be a frustrating player at times, but overall he's the best we got. I'm fine with him sticking around, because I can't really think of anyone else we could pick up right now. Good signing by DD.
-
I don't see how this is going to improve anything. You're crazy if you think Meech is going to fight. If the Wings called up Brad Ference from GR, you'd see a lot more fights. Although this guy is literally a punching bag, he still drops the gloves quite a bit. He'd be nice to have up here, because he'd actually provide some solid grit on the blueline, and he'd show a willingness to drop the gloves.

Because without stuff to ***** about, this forum wouldn't exist. ...hehe...

Sydor vs. Ruzicka Good fight here from a few nights ago. I give it a draw, but a lot of credit goes to Ruzicka in this one. He's not normally a fighter, but he did get in some great shots in the beginning with the right hand. Smith and Malone also fought in that same game, but I found that fight to be pretty lame. Smith basically got in a few early punches and Malone fell over pretty quickly. Tonight's game featuring San Jose and Phoenix should have a few good tilts. Daniel Carcillo is currently leading the league in PIM, and is currently in a 7-way tie for the lead in fighting majors with 5. I'd like to see him go against Doug Murray, since he seems to be a pretty willing fighter this season also. Sidenote: disregard the fact that the video I posted above is in French. I don't know why it is, but that's the only video I found of it.

Putting overall records aside, I still think Denver is a better team.
-
Lou, you need to start predicting more fights for the Wings. I'm surprised... we're currently sitting at 6 fighting majors this year (Drake has 3, Downey has 2, Kopecky has 1). Last year we finished with 10 all together. I hope this keeps up, because I'm tired of the Wings finishing dead last in that catagory every year.
-
I was extremely taken back by his fight last night. Not because it was all that great of a fight (which it really wasn't, because they both went down pretty quickly), but because he showed me something he hasn't shown me all season long: grit. It's about time he started playing like that. He's on the team to provide a physical presence, and maybe fight every once in a while, so that's what he needs to do. If he keeps it up, I won't ***** about him being in the lineup. I got nothing against the guy personally, it's just I saw no need for him to be in the lineup the way he was playing. If he keeps up the physical play, and drops 'em every once in a while, I'll be fine with him. Jeez, tell me about it! I actually used to like Sharp, but he's become a real wimp. Good for him that's he's at least dropping thee gloves on occasion, but he's losing to some of the worst fighters in the league: our fighters! When have you become so generous to Kopecky? I seem to remember you, like all of us, pegging him as a bad hockey player and wanting Downey in the lineup instead. Did one fight already change your opinion? If so, shame on you. As I said: I'll have no problem with Kopecky if he keeps this up on a consistant basis. He still has to actually prove he can do that, though.

6? Wow, you've got to be kidding me. Congrats edi. But... you must tell me your secret...
-
Go figure. We beat a good team like Denver, but fall over against a crappy team like Arizona. 6-3 is still way beyond my expectations, though, so I'm still happy.
-
That's what I figured. Although, Sundin would probably garner more than Forsberg. Sundin is healthy, as far as I know, where Forsberg was not. Detroit just doesn't have enough decent prospects to give up. They have Kindl, but I would hate it if the Wings threw him away for a probable rental player. He'll probably go back to Toronto at seasons end, because he doesn't want to leave anyways. I don't know what Toronto incentive would have to take that trade. Hudler is small, Meech sucks, Ericsson is an unproven prospect, and two drafts picks.
-
You're right about that. The NHL would probably be the worst sport to gamble on right now, because you never know who's going to win.
-
I still want Rory in. Someone tell that Canucks fan to start the campaign again.
-
Congrats to JR. Nice to see him ending his career on a more positive note.
-
So you want the Wings to bring in a soft, unmotivated player who disappears in the playoffs? Yeah, that's exactly what we need. I don't like Marian Hossa. I don't like his attitude, I don't like how he always disappears come playoff time, and I don't like the price tag he comes with. He isn't going to make an impact on this team, in my opinion. You can't change my view on him, so don't even bother with flashing all of his pretty regular season statistics at me. End of discussion.
-
Naslund and Hossa suck. Sundin would be a great option, but it seems to unlikely to happen. He'd first have to waive his no-trade clause, and even if he does, who does Detroit give up? Our prospect well is running dry. Doan is in the same situation as Sundin. We don't have anybody to give up. I'm sorry to break it to all of you, but the popular "Samulesson, Meech, and a 3rd" line that is thrown is so ridiculous, as is anything involving Jiri Hudler. These guys don't have squat for trade value. I think the most logical option is Mike Ryder out of Montreal. He's not having a very good season, but he obviously has top 6 forward potential, and we might not have to sell the farm to get him. Bob Gainey has shown his distaste for Ryder numerous times, so I think we could get him. Everyone else is up in the air, though. The Wings will most likely get screwed at the trade deadline, because we don't have any prospects. Don't be surprised if a Cory Cross type deal goes down.
