Red or White Jerseys at home?

What's to stop Chris Chelios from just wearing both jersey's during the same game? Joke aside, I prefer white at home.

    Downey on Waivers

I love how the Wings organization comes out and compliments Downey, then places him on waivers the very next day. Now that Grigorenko is gone, what exactly is the point in doing this? There is nobody in the AHL that I can think of right now that would be called up to sit the bench, so this move doesn't make sense in my opinion. Unless Holland is planning a trade, which is doubtful, this just seems like a stupid move. Why are you giving Kopecky so much credit? He does absolutely nothing when he's in the lineup except skate and fall down. He doesn't score, he doesn't use his size. I honestly don't know why you're giving a guy so much credit when he doesn't do anything but take up a roster spot. Surely considering how much you rag on Downey that you would be able to identify the fact that a player isn't very good. I won't deny the fact that Kopecky would probably get claimed on waivers, but then again, so was Joey MacDonald last season. Just because a player is claimed off of waivers doesn't mean that he is a good player that even belongs in the NHL. If anything, Kopecky would be claimed for a depth position. I honestly wouldn't consider Kopecky a loss. He has done absolutley nothing in the lineup this year. Everyone wants to point out the fact that he is a +5 in the +/- catagory, but why exactly should that warrant him being in the lineup? Every player should have a role on the team, and I seriously cannot find what Kopecky's role is. He doesn't score, he doesn't hit, he doesn't fight. What does he do exactly? I want a serious answer on this, not just the usual "potential" bulls***. Potential is a word used in the AHL. Once you're in the NHL, it's time to stop sitting on that word and start producing. Downey is the only one on this team who will defend guys like Zetterberg. He's a good fit here, and I will be very disappointed if we lose him. On an unrelated note... The Polish Hammer? I thought he retired

    Best Damn Sports Show Period

No kidding. It's a simple little word called entertainment. I don't see why every time something is mentioned about the NHL, and it's not a bending over ass-backwards compliment, it's the end of the world. Maybe if the NHL wasn't such a terrible league in terrible shape run by an idiotic moron, people wouldn't make fun of it so much. ...and really, I don't think you watch BDSSP very much. Although hockey isn't their favorite topic of conversation, they have guys like JR and Avery on from time to time. They just choose to make fun of the NHL because, frankly, it's pretty easy to. The NHL, and hockey for that matter, is the least popular sport in the US as a whole, next to soccer. Why, Barry Bonds and A-Rod of course! Alfredsson and Gerber were the only players they mentioned. The other ones were US senators. But hey... one of the knew who former Penguins goaltender Tom Barrasso was! And he hasn't played in the NHL in almost 4 years. So... I guess they do know something about hockey. I always enjoy these a good rant about stuff like this, though. It's pretty entertaining that some people get so offended by the fact that not everyone likes what they like.

A new Blue Line Comics Cartoon

Rob, usually your comics are pretty entertaining, but you really dropped the ball with this. I don't understand why everything has to be so politically correct. If anything, like previously mentioned, it's a sign of respect that Native American figures are being used as logos for professional sports franchises. I don't see what's so degrading about that. There are plenty of other names, also previously mentioned, that could be just as offensive to certain groups of people, but their not offended by it, because those people are level headed enough to understand. I would have preferred that you just stick to making fun of the St. Louis Blues or something, and not turn your comics into political gambits. It's your comic series, so you can do what you want, but it's not a very good subject in my opinion.

    Simple Osgood Question

8-0-0. Those are impressive numbers. I really don't see why the rhythem should be broken. Ozzie has played great, and Hasek hasn't... injury or not, Hasek blew in what little he's played this season (the Anaheim game especially). Wait until Ozzie loses a game before putting Hasek back in.

    Scott Niedermayer has begun skating

This whole situation is crap. I don't know how Burke get's away this stuff. I could make a conspiracy theory and say Bettman had this planned in order for Anaheim to win the Cup again so hockey would grow in s***ty markets where it doesn't belong in the first place, but I doubt that's the reason. But... it's really strange that Burke got away with this. What is the salary cap even here for if he can do stuff like that?

Eric Lindros, bust or biggest bust ever?

Ok, so that's a little high, but you get my point. I just don't know how you can consider a guy a bust when he scored almost 1000 career points in less than 1000 games, and won both a Hart and Lester B. Pearson Trophy in that time. I guess we just have different opinions of what a bust is.

    Next Question (LGW STYLE)

    1. Igor Larionov. I'd still keep him on the Wings roster, though, because he was a great player. 2. Yes. Chelios was a phenominal hockey player before he came here. 3. Probably no. In the prime of his career, Fedorov was the best two-way player in the league, but he wasn't stricly defensive prone like some. Those guys can be considered in the top 5. 4. It's hard to tell. Howe and Richard we're both amazing hockey players, and both did extrodinary things for their respective teams. In the end, I give the edge to Howe. He played hockey for such a long time, and did so many wonderful things for not just Detroit, but to the NHL, the Hartford Whalers, the WHL, and the sport of hockey in general. 5. Zetterberg or Datsyuk. 6. I'll say 120. 7. Datsyuk. Larionov was always a low-shooting, pass first player. 8. Rafalski. Is younger, is a better puck-moving defenseman, has the same offensive capabilities, and is much better defensivily. 9. Jimmy Howard.

Eric Lindros, bust or biggest bust ever?

Lindros is not a HOF'er, but he's definitly not a bust. He was, at one point, the best player in the world. His rookie season in 1992/1993, he scored 41 goals and 35 assists for 75 points in only 61 games, and missing 23 games due to injury. That's an amazing point per game pace he had, as a rookie no less. In the 1993/1994 season he scored 44 goals and 53 assists for 97 points in only 65 games. Those are excellent numbers for a guy who missed 19 games due to injury. That's almost a 4 point per game pace. To put up those kinds of numbers in so few of games is amazing. The next season, he scored 70 points in only 46 games. The season after that, Lindros had the best season of his career, scoring 47 goals and 68 assists for 115 points in 73 games. Putting all of that together, that's a combined 357 points in only 4 seasons, many of those seasons involving him missing 10+ games due to injury. That proves that, at the time, Lindros was definitly one of the best, if not the best, player in the world. In total, Lindros put up 1398 career points, 372 goals, and 493 assists in only 760 games. He's also won a Hart and Lester B. Pearson Trophy in that time. Combine that with the fact that he's scored over 75 points in 8 of only 13 NHL seasons , and scored 24 goals and 33 assists for 57 points in only 53 playoff games makes even more of a case for him. If you want to discuss busts, look no further than some guys like Alexandre Daigle, Pavel Brendl, or Patrick Stefan. These guys, at no points in there careers, ever lived up to the hype that followed them. Lindros did, but because of injuries and off ice distractions, his career was derailed. Lindros is not a HOF'er, but he is definitly not a bust. You can't be considered a bust when you put up numbers like that. At the time, Lindros was the best player in the league, and arguably the world.

    So what is Colorado's problem?

Denver isn't called "Hockeytown", so they don't overblow it with them like they do Detroit.

11/7 GDT: Red Wings 3, Predators 2 (SO)

Very sloppy game tonight, especially in the 3rd. Luckily Ozzie came to play and definitly pulled the Wings ahead. He was, in my opinion, the player of the game. Disappointed there wasn't a Downey - Tootoo fight, especially seeing them going at each in the 2nd. I'd like to see him in the lineup Friday, and go at it with someone like Boll or Curtis Glencross (not Shelley though, since Shelley would probably rip Downey apart). Glad the Wings won tonight, but by far not their best effort. Great game by Ozzie, though.

Senators, can they break the Wins record?

It's early in the season still. Plus, the Senators always have a tendancy throughout their history to collapse before they do something actually noteworthy. Look at last year's SCF. That team was unstoppable, and then, all of a sudden, they roll over and die against Anaheim. The regular season wins record is obviously less spectacular than winning the Cup, but it's still a noteworthy achievement, and the Senators don't often have many of those. Their most noteworthy achievment was either making the SCF last year, or trading Yashin for Chara and the draft pick to land Spezza. Don't get me wrong: I think the Sens are a great team. But, it's hard to keep up a pace like their on for an entire season.

what would it take to get vinny lecavalier?

I would go as high as Datsyuk for Lecavalier. Vinny is a 50 goal scorer, and the guy is only 27 years old. He fits the bill perfectly for a big player with scoring talent that this team so desperatly needs. The only one who's untouchable, in my book, is Zetterberg. Everyone else like Datsyuk, Filppula, Kindl, Smith, Howard, etc. would all be moveable resources for a guy like Vinny. What's to stop Chris Chelios from activating a no-trade clause and deny the trade?

    Howard's career potential: 1A goalie?

That's because playing in Sweden we don't get to see this player peform, where as if he were playing GR, he'd be almost right next door. Larsson, who I imagine you're talking about, is supposed to be projected as a #1 goalie, but somehow I don't think that'll happen with the Wings. They already screwed up Liv, so unless they bring Larsson over soon, they may lose out on him too.
