Heh. If you can believe it, he actually came on XM radio today and said that Ryan Getzlaf is rumored to be traded to the Maple Leafs. Anybody with even the slightest of hockey knowledge knows that Brian Burke would never trade someone like Getzlaf, who's a big, gritty canadian, which Brian Burke has a *** love for. The fact that he even proposed the trade to a s***ty ass team like Toronto, who have absolutley no assets that Anaheim would need or want, makes it even more ridiculous. Eklund is such a card. I can't believe people even take into account what he says anymore. The constant "I know it's Eklund, but..." threads that appear in the Trade Rumors forum are just getting to the point of tedious, because it's a given that Eklund will always be wrong.

Neither are Ellis or Downey. Kopecky doesn't deserve to be in the lineup. He hasn't proven anything. If the Wings want to have guys that are only going to play 5-7 minutes a game on the 4th line, at least play someone like Ellis, who's hard work leads to opporutunities, or Downey, who will defend his teammates. There is no sense completely wasting that roster spot on someone like Kopecky, who does absolutley nothing. Kopecky hasn't been a detriment, but really, nobody has. Just because Kopecky hasn't cost us a game yet doesn't mean he should get into the lineup over two guys like Ellis or Downey, who have both played much better and have contributed a lot more than Kopecky.

Welcome to the forums. I'd go with Scotty's team as winning. Nice avatar by the way. I always like a good Dibert comic, even if business humor isn't really my favorite thing.

^^^Ah, ok. Didn't watch the beginning of the game, so I wasn't sure who was playing.

Please explain to me how Downey is a lieability. He is a +1 right now, and does great in a limited role. He hasn't made any glaring mistakes at all. Drake, meanwhile, is a team worst -5. That's pretty bad for a guy playing on the NHL's top team right now. I like Drake, but if he has to wear a face shield and can't fight, then I see no reason for him to be in the lineup. His fights were the only thing he was actually doing good in.

Raycroft is playing. I'm not sure if he started the game or not though. Toskala might have been pulled. Of course, Raycroft is no stranger to giving up 7+ goals a game. He's a terrible goaltender, and I can't believe JFJ was so stupid as to trade a future Vezina winner in Tukka Rask for him.

That's something you don't often see. The media actually being pro-Red Wings. I guess the next lunar eclipse has come early.

Osgood can't win a Cup again. There, I said it. (I'm joking of course)

I just couldn't help it. Your Lilja jokes are great.

Why is everyone so bitchy over what Lowe did last summer? The guy was trying to improve his team. Although he majorly overpaid for Penner and in his attempt for Vanek, that's what you have to do to get RFA's, because small offers are easily matched. Plus, it's the only option he has when the free agent market dries up and their are no good players left. What Lowe did was perfectly legal, so when guys like Brian Burke complain like they do, he only does because he's pissed off that he lost a player. If Lowe would have gotten Vanek instead, I'm sure he and Burke would still be best buddies right now like before.
-
He's been playing ok. So I can't really rag on him or anything. His goal in the San Jose game was great. I almost couldn't believe who shot it. That looked like the Lilja during last year's playoffs, before his mulligan in Game 5 of course. Now: I'm just waiting to see him drop the gloves, and all will be good.

Laraque beat him last time, so I think Boogaard will come out more prepared this time. Prediction - Narrow win to Boogaard

Because Kopecky is Babcock's "team toughness" player, who uses his massive 6'3 frame whenever he can and is the most physical on the team. Not to mention he's one of the most feared players in the NHL right now, and is an emerging star power forward.

Great post. I can't believe the amount of people who just automatically assume A-Rod is a pompus, overpayed jackass just by his contract numbers. This isn't Barry Bonds we're talking about: it's A-Rod, the same A-Rod that was league MVP and far and away the best hitter in baseball. I don't know why anyone wouldn't want him. There's no salary cap in baseball, so it's not like we'd have to dump the whole team just to sign (that is, unless Illitch is un-willing to pay for him). But if we can land A-Rod here, I see no reason why we shouldn't.

Riske would be a great pickup, as far as someone cheap that we don't have to give up anything for. He's a serviceable closer, and he's a hell of a lot better than Rodney. Why not? If the Tigers can pull it off, then I'm all for it. A-Rod would add another power hitter on this team to go along with Maggs and Sheffield, and that can't hurt. I think we'd see a much more motivated A-Rod here in Detroit. The Yankees suck: highest payroll in baseball, and while they do consisitantly make the playoffs, they go out like lambs every year.

Same here. I know some people who don't watch hockey at all, from southern states for that matter, but they at least know what the sport is about. I doubt they are that stupid.

Disappointing effort by Colorado. They just rolled over and died from the beginning. It's too bad, because I would have really liked them to win. In reality, though, it was unfeasable to think Colorado was going to win. Boston was just too talented, and some of their higher paid players make more money then the entire Rockies payroll. When you have the 2nd highest payroll in baseball anyways, it's expected you'll win. Now, on a more positive note: great trade by DD to land Reneria! This is exiting, especially considering we gave up hardly anything for him. It's too bad we had to give up a good prospect in Jurrjens, but Reneria addresses a glaring need at SS. Hernandez can be easily filled, so there's no real loss there. Great trade!

Really? Do you have the link? I like Drake because of his fights, but if he's not going to be able to do that, then I see no point in having him in the lineup. Downey hasn't played that bad, so keep him in.
-
It's not sirdrake. If it was sirdrake, you would have seen a Chelios reference thrown in there. I wish he'd come back. We need more "What's to stop Chris Chelios?" stuff from him, since he does it the best. Nobody can match his style of awesome posting.

This is a week I just want to forget. 2nd to last place.
-
Heh. I expect nothing more from the Wings "PR Nazi" John Hahn, and the rest of those dinosaur's they have as a marketing staff. They're all clueless. What's to stop Chris Chelios from traveling back in time and doing that before you even suggested it?
-
It's too bad he never won a Cup. Good luck Peter.

I know he was given a chance. There are other people who don't think so, which is who I was talking about in this situation. It's great. I just hope now that Babcock realizes the cumbersome play of certain players this season (Hudler and Kopecky), and makes a full-time spot for Downey. Not that I think that'll happen, but it's always fun to hope for a full-time enforcer.
