According to Spectors and Eurohockey.net goaltender Robert Esche has signed a contract with the Ak Bars Kazan of the Russian Super League. Esche wasn't a very good goalie, but I'm surprised that he wasn't able to land on a team anywhere. Someone like the LA Kings or any other team that has bad goaltending could have used him.

Yes. I'm curious to know this also. Ellis is definitly deserving of his roster spot, which he proved tonight. But Kopecky hasn't done two s***s to show he should even be playing in the NHL.

What a great game tonight! I have to say: the Wings really proved me wrong. After Moday's game, I was expecting the Wings to get their asses handed to them on a silver platter. But they really stepped it up and played a damn great game tonight, and was certainly entertaining. So, with that said: I'll take my crow with a side salad please. Hats off to Matt Ellis. It was a lucky goal, but his hard work finally paid off. Great game by him tonight. ...and considering there was a fight, you know I'm very happy with Downey. But seriously, he did what he was asked to do, and I'm happy he did it. I just hope Drake's injury isn't very serious. Other then that, though, a great game tonight!

What point does that prove? That unlike Greg Johnson he doesn't have a heart condition? Passing a doctor's physical doesn't make someone in shape. Heck, guys like Lang or Alexei Yashin pass their physical's every year, and those two are probably some of the laziest and out of shape players in the league (or in Yashin's case, outside of the league). People making arguements for Grigorenko's accident as a logical excuse to come into camp out of shape are way off base. He's played in 3 full seasons in Russia since his accident. There is absolutley no excuse as to why he came into camp unmotivated and out of shape. I'm not expecting him to be Sergei Fedorov part two, but he's been a major disappointment so far. It would have been nice if he at least shown an effort.

Bykov was a fairly average defenseman. He wasn't terrible, but he certainly wasn't that great either. He saw an opportunity to play more in Russia, and he wisely took it. In Detroit, he was about the #5-6 defenseman. In Russia, he's easily a top 4, perhaps even a top 2. That's what people need to understand about Sopel leaving Detroit. If Sopel would have signed here, he would have been a #7 defenseman, or a #5-6 defenseman if he got lucky. In Chicago, he's easily on one of the top pairings. While I was upset at him initially, I understand that he was doing what was best for him and his family. In Chicago, he is probably getting more money then what Detroit offered. I have a feeling Grigorenko will leave. He doesn't seem to have any desire to perform (right now anyways), and he'll probably see his opportunity to play more in Russia.

What's to stop Chris Chelios from signing with the Detroit Tigers? In other news, go Rockies.

Other then the fact that Hasek will probably walk out and leave if he is downgraded to being the backup goalie. If Osgood played that increadibly well, then it wouldn't be a big deal. Hell, we'd have 2.5 million more in cap room if Hasek left, and just bring up Howard as the backup. The thing is, I really doubt that will happen. For one, Osgood has only played in 2 games this year. That's not enough to make a final judgement on. Secondly, as mad as I was at Hasek after Monday's game, there is no denying his talent. He has a way of bouncing back after absolutley horrible starts, so hopefully it'll happen again this year. It'll be a waiting progress right now. The Wings were below .500 at the end of October last season, but that really didn't effect them in the long run. We'll see what happens.

Who exactly is deserving of more ice time, other then the obvious choices of Zetterberg and Datsyuk? The young guys aren't doing s*** right now. Their getting prime time minutes, yet aren't do damn well of anything. I don't see how they are contributing any more then guys like Drake are. I am well aware of the fact that Downey isn't a very good fighter. When he was signed, I never said that he would stop the problem the Wings have. Hell, only someone like Boogaard or Laraque could do that by himself. But given the situation, and how bad some guys like Kopecky are playing, I don't see why it would be so bad to give Downey a chance.

Downey only played 2 SHIFTS the whole ******* game. How is that enough for a guy to be anything of a factor at all? It's obviously apparent you're one of the many "anti-enforcers" on these forums, but can you say with full confidence that some of the guys on this team are truely more deserving of the ice time their getting over Downey? Look at how much guys like Kopecky, Hulder, and Filppula played last game, and they did jack s*** in the process. If Downey would have gotten more ice time, he would have been more a factor. Not to completely stop Anaheim from pummeling the Wings, because only one-middleweight enforcer is not capable of that. And before you accuse me of being one of the ones that said it would, don't. I've said numerous times that this team is a far cry from being anything near being able to match the toughness of Anaheim. Downey would have simpily helped, not stop the whole thing all together. Guys like Boogaard could do that, but not Downey. But still, Downey would have helped had he gotten anymore then table-scrap minutes. Disagree all you want, I really don't ******* care. That's my opinion, and I'm sticking to it. (by the way, I can oversize the text and be a dickhead too)

You know, if you want to be a dick, maybe you could try getting your facts straight. Downey played a grand total of 2 30 second shifts during the last game. He has no control over that. Babcock chose instead to play Kopecky instead, who is the worst player on the whole damn team. Z and Lidstrom got hurt because Anaheim is just that tough a team. Even if Downey played a regular shift, the Wings were still overmatched by Anaheim. And that's just a simple attribution to how the team was built. You can say the ever classic "Did you watch the playoffs last year????!!!1" stuff, but it's a fact that Anaheim is still bigger and tougher then Detroit. Anyone who denies that notion is either the biggest damn homer on the planet, or is absolutley insane. With Z's back problems, it's no surprise he got hurt. I just can't imagine who their going to put in now to replace him. This team is horribly short on depth.
