    fantasy tradee

This should have gone in the Fantasy Hockey forum, for one thing. In my own opinion that is an awful trade. You'd be trading away two great scoring talents for an injured goalie and a defenseman who is a fairly decent player, but still not good enough to make that trade. And since you already have Kiprusoff and DiPietro, it makes even less to make that trade when the centerpiece is another goalie. You're #3 goalies almost never play, so you could have just some random guy in there for that role (I have Dany Sabourin as my #3 goalie on my fantasy team). I'd advise against making that trade. You're not getting enough in return for it to be an even trade.

    Who Am I?

I was the 1st ever Czech ice hockey player to play over 1,000 games in the NHL. I played the majority of my career with the Montreal Canadians, whom I won a Stanley Cup with. I also won an Olympic Gold Medal for ice hockey during the 1998 Olympics in Nagano. Who am I?

Ahh, another phantom call to add to the books. The new NHL is so predictable.

It was a joke. As it's my job to demand the Wings sign a fighter. So it all works out in the end.

Counterbalance? I think that's putting it a bit too nicely...

Ridiculous. The Wings always get so lax. Where is the intesity? That was a terrible goal to give up.

I wasn't being a jerk at all. It was a misunderstanding.

I was talking about Fantasy Hockey, not in real life. Hasek isn't a good choice for a fantasy team, because he only faces about 15 shots a game, and he usually let's at least 1 or 2 in a game. Don't overreact because I said that, either. Every goalie let's in that many, but his save % is lower because he doesn't face as many shots.

Edmonton is not a big draw. I'm sorry, but their not. The Leafs, Habs, Rags, and Bruins will all not be coming to Detroit this year, so we can't use that as a possible benchmark. But it's still stupid that the Wings couldn't sellout the home opener against Anaheim. That was pathetic, if you ask me (and I have room to talk, also, since I went to that game). But, as I said earlier, it's a sign of changing times. When Illitch get's his s*** together and starts lowering ticket prices for decent seats (those obstructed view seats are terrible), and starts making this a more marketable and fan-friendly team, you'll see attedance on the rise.

No, his save precentage probably won't be. He's letting in about 2-3 goals a game on about 13 shots. That's terrible, and unless he get's shutouts every game, his save percentage will be bad. Luckily I have Luongo for my fantasy team.

I'd drop him personally. 2 shots, 1 goal for Edmonton. That's terrible. Except for the shootout against Anaheim, Hasek has sucked in pretty much every game this year so far. Yeah, yeah, it's only 3 games, but he hasn't been very good at all.

Yeah, I agree. But, times change, and the Wings haven't adjusted to the changing times. When they really start lowering the ticket prices (these $9 tickets are only a myth, because their obstructed view), and start making the team more fan-friendly, people will start going to the games again. Things will get better. If the Wings organization does their part and adjusts to the needs of the fans, the fans will do their part and start going to games.

Yeah, and your point? It's another non-sellout. You guys better get used to this sort of thing. Detroit really shouldn't be called "Hockeytown" anymore, because it really isn't.

    Lines for Tonight's Game

I was hoping Downey would be in tonight, and I'm disappointed that Ellis was put in instead. Regardless, while I don't think Ellis is a very good player, he isn't used garbage like some people make him out to be here. I like him a lot better then Kopecky. I think a better situation would be to play both Downey and Ellis, and scratch Kopecky. Or, better yet, trade Kopecky for a bag of pucks and a half-eaten sandwhich.

I highly doubt Ellis will be the one going to GR and Downey will stay up. Downey is on a two-way contract, and can be sent down without problem now because they already cleared him through waivers. The organization has some fear that if they try to send Ellis down, somebody will claim him (I honestly don't know who would want him, though, because he's not a very good player). I would like to be positive, but this team has some refusel to carrying an enforcer. When you look at who we got on this team now playing on the 4th lines and such, Downey is no worse a player then some of them (Kopecky and Ellis come to mind). But, as it happens, I still don't see him playing here much at all, if he even does play a regular season game. The Wings signed him, but I don't know why they even did to be honest. I'm getting a sense they have absolutley no intention of playing him at all. Here a spot opens up, yet they call on a guy who has less NHL expierence, and doesn't do hardly anything. For those who cite bringing energy to the lineup as a reason to play Ellis, you need to find a better one. Draper, Drake, Maltby, hell even Kronwall all bring energy to the lineup. There's still a bit of time before Grigorenko get's called back up, but unless another injury comes to pass, I seriously doubt Downey will ever play a single game this season. It's a shame, too, because he's worked really hard all training camp and preseason, and he's probably the only guy the Wings have that is willing to drop the gloves and defend his teammates on a regular basis.

    Weekend Picks

Yeah, no doubt. There were so many upsets this weekend. Columbus over Anaheim, Carolina over Pittsburgh, Chicago over Detroit. Ugh, I really hate it when that kind of stuff happens.

Well, since Downey isn't playing tonight, I need to change my predictions. Still 4-1 Wings. Zetterberg, Rafalski, Chelios, and Drake will score. It's basically the same prediction I had before, except I replaced Downey with Drake for scoring a goal. Disappointed in Babcock for not giving Downey a chance. He'll be off the team come October 22nd or whatever anyways because of this whole Grigorenko business, so I thought we might at least be able to see him play a little bit before then. Oh well. Still looking forward to the game regardless.
