I'm surprised this comment didn't upset more people, or cause a massive overration like what usually follows here. I'm giving you a zero for the day for this.

I'd like Hudler better if he actually played in a scoring role, like he should. I don't like him as a 4th line player, because that's not what he is. I'd rather see him on the 2nd line as opposed to Filppula.

Daze was actually still playing hockey that season? I can remember a couple of summer's ago, people had actually wanted the Wings to sign Daze... this after three back surgeries, and a total of 20 games over a period of three years. Not to mention that, even when the guy was healthy, he was probably the softest player of that size ever to play the game. Not that it's etched in stone or anything, but a player who's 6'6 should at least show some signs of toughness. ...and as for Fedorov, his 400th goal was in Chicago, and it came at a point when the Wings wouldn't a single game for the rest of the season. So there wasn't any celebrating to be done.

Murphy Chris Osgood or Mike Vernon?

Wings Petitioning to Have Meech's Name on the Cup
Kp-Wings replied to CanadianSwede19's topic in General
Meech and Lebda are about the same kind of player, but Meech has way more offensive upside. Since Meech will pretty much for certain get a spot next year, then the best bet is to dump Lebda. He really doesn't need to be here anymore anyways; the only reason he was even here in the first place was to fill a spot until either Meech or Quincey were NHL ready. The guy they brought in originally to do that, Andy Delmore, was defensivily inept, so they chose Lebda instead. Regardless, the Wings really have no use for Lebda anymore. -
Like that really matters here...

Does racism also play a part in Anson Carter not being able to find a job in the NHL? Being black has absolutley nothing to do with it. Emery is a mediocre goaltender who in no way should be a starter, and he's nothing but a distraction with his antics. That's why he couldn't find a team to sign him, especially a young-team like Los Angeles that doesn't need a cancer in the lockeroom (I couldn't believe for a second they were actually interested in him, like the rumors said). Also, as somebody pointed out earlier, there are noteable black players in the NHL (mainly Jarome Iginla, Mike Grier, and Georges Laraque) that are well-respected and well paid for their talents. Guys like Emery or Carter couldn't find a team because their bad hockey players; not because their black.

Jason Krog has been beating around the bush his entire career. I wonder if the contract he signed with Vancouver was an actual NHL contract, or just another trip to the minors (which is where he's best).

Mark Ferner and Vincent Riendeau. On a serious note, I'd say guys like Probie, Dino, Gallant, John Ogrodnick, Mike Sillenger, Shawn Burr, and maybe a few others would be who comes to mind. The Wings didn't keep Slegr because he wasn't very good. The only reason he was a top defenseman in Atlanta is because at that time the Thrashers were still a fairly new team, and most of their defenseman were still castoffs from other teams that went unprotected in the waiver draft. He actually did return to the NHL for a couple of seasons afterwards (with Vancouver and Boston), but he's long gone now. He's not at all suited for the new NHL.

Great stuff. Best post of this entire thread.

This whole situation with Tampa has gone from weird and completely insane to interesting and pretty damn funny. I can't wait to see how a team that has arguably one of the best forward crops in the league, yet absolutley no defense or goaltending to speak of, will finish in the season standings.

Every team in the Central Division. I'll root for Anaheim or the Florida Marlins or something before I ever root for any of those teams, especially St. Louis. Their fan base should just dig a hole, and bury themselves in it, because they are the most pathetic, lame ass bunch of losers I've ever seen in my life.

Teams don't just get rid of versatile players like Neil, especially for a scrub like Lilja. If they really are activily shopping him like everybody says, he'll fetch a much nicer return than that. ...and as for Lilja, if he is traded, it'll be for future considerations, a low round draft pick, or possibly a borderline NHL player on the bubble to crack a lineup. It's amazing how people here come out and say he flat out sucks and isn't worth a half-eaten sandwich, yet when trade time comes, he'll bring in just about every top 6 forward imaginable. He is tradeable, yes, but for a player like Chris Neil? No. way. Lilja is an insurance policy; that's why they brought him back. Even if the kids are ready, that doesn't mean he'll be gone; he'll probably just sit the bench and be an injury replacement. The Wings aren't just going to immediately get rid of him after just having re-signed him to a 2-year extension.

Carcillo isn't an enforcer, for one thing. If he was, then Phoenix would really have had no reason to aquire both McGrattan and Fedoruk (maybe one of the two, but not both). He wouldn't fill that role here. Enforcers are usually paid cheaply; Carcillo is a good enough player to get a lot of money, especially with today's overly inflated NHL contracts. Secondly, he's too valuable of a player on Phoenix that they'll just let him go. They have a ton of cap space, even with high priced moves like the Jokinen trade. They'll match any offer thrown at him. I'd love to have Carcillo on the Wings; he's an awesome player that can do it all. But, the chances of it happening are so ridiculously unrealistic that it's not even worth discussing.

This is certainly an amazing way to start things off. First Kenny re-signs Stuart to a long term deal at a reasonable price, then he signs Ty Conklin, a solid backup goaltender for much less money than I thought he would make (I figured on the open market at today's prices, and given that Conklin saved Pittsburgh last season, he'd make at least 1.5 million), and then, as if that wasn't great enough, he goes out and signs MARIAN HOSSA! The fact that he signs one of the best players in the world is good enough, but also the fact that he signs him for almost three million less than what other teams were offering him was amazing. I'm so shocked and happy right now that words don't do justice for my excitement. Kenny Holland makes all GM's look like total idiots. The guy is flat out amazing at what he does.
-
This is the most absolutley amazing signing I've ever seen! He turned down offers of up to two and three million and long terms to instead play here and win a Cup for less? I have a totally new respect him. This is such great news. We are in a great position to repeat next season. First re-signing Stuart, then Conklin, now Hossa? Ken Holland is a God! Give this guy a lifetime contract extension!

Hehe, no, I picked up on the original joke. Having him on this team has given all of us great comedic material for years and years to come. In fact, whatever happened to the original "lazy and sucks" topic? That should've been pinned for all future members to see.
-
You must be referring to Duncan Keith, right?
-
That salary is disgusting. Campbell is, at best, a 4-5 million dollar player. He's extremely overrated, and you'd think that, given his terrible playoff performance with the Sharks last season, he wouldn't get paid that much money. On the other side of things, Chicago is looking pretty good for next season.

Wings out of picture for Sundin, Hossa, Rolston
Kp-Wings replied to Redwingsfan18's topic in General
Now if we'd just get out of the picture for Bertuzzi, everything would be set. I really can't believe the Wings are even interested in a washup like him. I can't complain too much, because today has been great otherwise and Holland has been amazing with the Stuart and Conklin deals, but I just don't want Bertuzzi here. The guy does more harm than good. -
The new age of hated Avalanche players is rolling in. There could still be hope for this rivarly yet!

Our defense and goaltending is going to be so solid next season. First re-signing Stuart, now signing a solid backup goalie like Conklin. Great day for Kenny Holland and the Wings overall.
