    2007 Baseball Season

Ahh, so out come the pessimists. And I thought I was the only one. These games are too damn critical to be losing. The Yankees are fighting hard for the wildcard spot also, and we can't be losing games. While I'm more concerned about Cleveland, the Yankees are also a huge problem. Cleveland is on a 3 game winning streak right now. While they aren't miles ahead in the AL central, they still got a jump on us, and unless this losing stops, we'll have to rely on the wildcard spot. In our current position, we are 2 1/2 games back of a wildcard spot, behind both Seattle and New York. That makes the New York series even more critical: if we can't catch Cleveland and start dropping all these games to New York, we'll be on the outside as far as the wildcard spot goes also. Ugh. I'm getting tired of this. This team has too much talent. We shouldn't be losing games like this.

The 2 most improved teams in the West...

The Kings suck. Just because they signed Handzus and Calder doesn't make them a playoff team. Jack Johnson is a great player, but he will not turn that team from 14th in the West into a playoff team. They still have the worst goalie in the league (Cloutier), and their defense after the top pairing drops off really quick. I don't know why people automatically consider LA a playoff team just because they go out and sign a bunch of mediocre free agents (nothing against Handzus, but 4 million for a guy who only played 8 games last year is absolutly ridiculous). They have a ways off. St. Louis looks more like a playoff team this year. We'll see how it all turns out.

    Detroit Lions Preseason Thread

Almost blew that one away! 20 unanswered points by Cleveland in the 4th. Thought I was watching the 2006 Lions if you know what I mean. It's nice they won, but like stated by others before, it's only preseason. I'm not ready to drink the Lions kool-aid yet at this point.

    The Rise of the MLS

Hah. The MLS will never be popular in the States. Same goes for the sport in general. This whole Beckham thing is pretty overblown. I mean, just because he's a big name in Europe means he'll instantly make the sport popular? I doubt it. By the way: has anyone ever heard Beckham talk? He sounds like either a 10-year old girl.

CBC Hockey Night in Canada Schedule...

Leafs crowds are anything but loud. Unless you consider the dull roar of a sparce "Go Leafs Go" chant from the 5 passionate fans that can actually afford the tickets. Most people who go to Leafs games are businessmen that don't give a two s***s about hockey, or if they do, they sure don't show it. Their crowds are generally quiet.

    Devils re-sign Paul Martin, 3yrs/$12m

He was the best defenseman on the Devils last year. Who is going to replace him? Martin?

    Devils re-sign Paul Martin, 3yrs/$12m

This will be his 1st year without Rafalski, meaning that he won't have a single top defenseman on the team. I hate to break it to you, but Paul Martin and Richard Matvichuk are not top defenseman.

    2007 Baseball Season

Cutting Monroe was a bit of a surprise. Yes, he was bad this season, but figuring he had a good season last year he might have at least been on the bench for a little while. Didn't get to see Maybin tonight, but I'll be able to watch it later. FSN usually replays all the games late at night, which is good for me because I'm usually working when the Tigers are on.

    Detroit Lions Preseason Thread

I don't understand what people are basing this off of. Kitna is 34, and has never been a quality NFL QB. Mike Martz or not, he's not a good QB. I'd be very surprised to see him have a good season this year, like many predict. Tomorrow should be interesting. I wonder if Cleveland plans on playing Quinn at all.

    Coyotes & Sharks leaks

The Coyotes jersey looks pretty similar, thankfully. It's nice to see some teams staying put and not all changing their logo's in the same year. If that is really a real picture on the video game.

    Devils re-sign Paul Martin, 3yrs/$12m

Scratch Lukowich off that list. He signed in Tampa over the summer. Vishnevski will replace Lukowich, while either Karel Rachunek or Andy Greene will probably have a roster spot over Oduya. Again though, not an impressive defense by any stretch of the imagination.

    Devils re-sign Paul Martin, 3yrs/$12m

Gomez wasn't that big of a loss in my opinion. The reason I say they will have trouble competeing is their defense. Martin and either Richard Matvichuk or Colin White will be their top defenseman next year. Now, if Brodeur was the same guy he was a few years ago that would be fine, but he looked real human last year in the playoffs against Ottawa. He was overplayed, yes, but who's to say that won't happen again? Not that I think Brodeur sucks, but whether he can perform as well as he has before with a defense that doesn't include Niedermayer, Stevens, and now Rafalski is in question.

    Devils re-sign Paul Martin, 3yrs/$12m

Lou Lamb is becoming senile in his old age. Martin is a good defenseman, but he's not that good. I can't imagine why they'd pay him 12 million like that. I didn't even think he was going to be their top defenseman this year. ...and people thought the Islanders we're bad shape. The Devils will be lucky to even compete this year.

    Islanders sign Josef Vasicek

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=216187&hubname=nhl Scratch off another big name on the free agent market. Slowly but surely we'll start to see the bigger names get signed, as was the case here.

    Forsberg

Quite a few is a stretch. From 1997, the only guys left on this team from then are Lidstrom, Draper, Holmstrom, Maltby, and Osgood. That was the last time the rivalry was actually "heated". From 2002, which was the last time the rivalry had any relevancy at all, you can add Chelios and Hasek to that list. Honestly: the guys we have left probably don't hate Forsberg that much. The Wings no longer have the guys that truely hated him: McCarty, Kocur, Lapointe, even Larionov got into with Forsberg quite a bit. Those guys are all gone now, and the ones left really didn't fight Forsberg like the other guys I mentioned did. Nonetheless, I don't want Forsberg anyways. I have my reasons.

    Versus Schedule released

If a tornado came and took away Brian Engblom, I'd be pretty happy about that too. Agreed about Jones though. You know, I know Versus is owned by Comcast, which also owns the Flyers, but God damn: quit being such a blind homer whenever the Flyers are involved. You'd think him and Forsberg are having sex together or something. (well, with Forsberg it wouldn't come as any surprise if you know what I mean )

    Datsyuk's stick

When a new stick hits the market, it generally costs at least $200. Unless you're waiting for the prices to drop, or the stores near you have damn good deals, that's basically what it will cost.

CBC Hockey Night in Canada Schedule...

Why is this such a surprise that the Leafs have so many games? It's always been that way since HNIC existed. The station is based out of Toronto, and the two head broadcasters (Bob Cole and Harry Neale) are also the Leafs full-time broadcasters (well, I know Neale is for sure, but I can't be too sure about Cole). Plus, I would think the Leafs generally get good TV ratings. Not because their good (which their not) but because the tickets are so damn expensive that a middle class hockey family cannot afford to go, so they compromise the situation by watching it on TV. It really doesn't hurt my feelings that the Wings aren't on CBC all the time, because I don't live in Canada. I have FSN and Center Ice, so it's not even an issue for me.

Osgood Wants To Play Five More Years

It's been confirmed that Cloutier will be the starter in L.A. next year. I'm not getting carried away, since I have already stated I do not want Osgood to be a starting goalie here. Plus, I am not one of the die-hard Osgood fans like some here. He's just so-so with me. But it remains factual that most of the names people have mentioned that are "better" then him really aren't. Maybe it's just me, but I'd think that most teams would rather have Osgood as a starter then someone like Marc Denis, who has never had a winning record in his entire career. All be it many of those years for him were in Columbus, but still. The man is 30 years old already, and has never had a winning record nor lived up to his potential in any way. I don't think I'm overating Osgood at all. No, he's not great, but he is capable of being a #1 goaltender in the NHL, whether it be on a non-playoff team is not really relevant. If guys like Cloutier and Denis can land starting jobs, I see no reason why Osgood couldn't.

    NHL Tournament of Logos

That's the old Kings logo we're going against (or the alternate now). Interesting they'd do that.
