Everlast - What It's Like
-
When I'm watching a fight, I could care less if the players fighting are also 30 goals scorers. That's pretty irrelevant during an actual fight. Janssen and Shelley are both great fighters, so I think it'd be an interesting matchup. I'm not sure those two have fought before, because Columbus and New Jersey never play each other.
-
Definitly. It'd give people a reason to actually go to these monday night matchups against Columbus. I can see it now... Janssen and Jody Shelley both knocking the crap out of each other... the JLA crowd then comes alive with excitement... *wakes up suddenly* Oh, sorry, I was just having a good dream. Sorry for getting ahead of myself.
-
I'm surprised Chicago did that. Why? Because signing guys to contracts means giving them money, and God forbid Bill Wirtz does that! Silliness aside, it's a good for the 'Hawks, because Savard is a pretty decent coach. He had them playing a good brand of hockey. Still don't think they'll be making the playoffs anytime soon though, as Ruutu and Soccer Kick (Havlat) will most likely both get injured right when the season starts.

What a heated discussion this has become! You know, this whole Heatley talk is just really becoming ridiculous. How realistic is it for the Wings to have Zetterberg, Datsyuk, and Heatley all under contract at once? Well, it is possible, but then we'd have to make the rest of the team suck ass, kinda like Tampa does with their big 3. Not saying I wouldn't want Heatley, because I certainly do. But it's just not very possible.
-
Wow... where to begin... First of all, why would you can two teams that have a 100% sellout rate? And, for that matter, replace them with two failed markets like Winnipeg and Quebec? Now, I can understand the Tampa hate, because ITZ IN TEH SOUTH!!!!!11!!!!1!!!1. I can see peoples southern bias around here will never change, and are completely blinded by the fact that Tampa does have a good fan base. They wouldn't have a 100% sellout rate for nothing. But, why move Minnesota? That is a rabid hocky hotbed up there. It's easily the most hockey mad state in the entire US. It kicks Michigan's ass by a mile in that catagory, since Detroit is more of a bandwagon sports town anyways. Ugh... I don't know sometimes... move two pretty successful markets in favor for two obscure failed markets in Canada... what a plan! edited for grammar

Faith No More - From Out of Nowhere
-
That's what the order sheet said. I'd thought it'd be more also.
-
There's a difference. Tampa still sells out their games.
-
I wasn't planning on buying one of these anyways. Hey, my Yzerman jersey still fits me plenty well enough. I see no reason to spend $130 for a jersey I probably wouldn't like anyways.
-
Same here. As if the NHL doesn't have enough problems, they have to be nazi dicatators about this whole jersey thing. Personally I think the old jersey style was fine as-is. We'll see how these things look on the players. If they are noticably smaller or something, I will not be very happy about this change, especially when the NHL could focus on more pressing matters.
-
It's basically the same concept, and not to many changes were made. Overall, their not great, but they'll grow on me. It's a lot better then I initially percieved.

Tverdovsky wasn't so bad that they got rid of Johnson just to get rid of his salary. I don't know about you, but I'd rather have Tverdovsky on the books for 2 more years and keep Johnson for the long run, then git rid of Tverdovsky right away but also get rid of Johnson. It was said that Rutherford was "desperate" for defenseman, because Johnson wouldn't sign, so he made the trade. He only got one defenseman back, Tim Gleason, who was injured all the time. Note the fact that Rutherford had cap space because he got rid of Tverdovsky's salary, but didn't do anything with it. He still hasn't for that matter, as they still don't have a true #1 defenseman. It's an explainable circumstance: Jim Rutherford is not a smart GM.
-
Adrian Aucoin sucks just as bad. Tverdovksy's last good season was 2001-2002 when with Anaheim. Since then, he's gotten considerably worse, but did win 2 Stanley Cup's. I'm sure his feelings aren't hurt any.
-
Funny how playing defense was brought into this. I could never play defense full time. I don't know why, but I just never stuck with it. It's funny too, since I was never a huge offensive threat when I was a kid playing, and I was mostly a defensive forward or checking line forward. I usually played on the PK and stuff like that, since I never scored a lot of goals. Oh well. I actually do play defense a little bit in my senior league, but not often.

Another name pulled right out of the blue. Reinprecht isn't even a free agent, so I don't know where he get's this stuff. He's still under contract with Phoenix. He's not even worth it, to be honest. We'd have to give up a current roster player or draft picks for a guy that missed 33 games last year because of a shoulder injury, and has had serious injuries before a few seasons ago. Unless Phoenix is looking to dump him for dirt cheap, he's not worth it. If he did come cheap, he'd be an ok guy to have, because he's a capable top 6 forward. Still, it would have to be for basically nothing, like Hudler or a very low round draft pick. Edit: Ok, seriously, I actually looked at his blog, and look at some of the names he has coming here: Bryan Berard Janne Niinimaa Nils Ekman Darren McCarty Steven Reinprecht (trade) Marcel Hossa (trade) Talk about major ass-chamber rumors. Where does he this stuff from?

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=215387&hubname=nhl Interesting they'd decide to bring back one of the biggest whipping boys for fans in the modern era. I guess this is supposed to be some makeshift replacement for Souray, or something.

Oddly enough, Kyle Calder had about 30 or so less points last season then Cammalleri did this season, and ended up getting a pretty similar amount from his abitration. Arbitration is a joke. When you consider the fact that Diver (Derek Roy) got 4 million a season, when Cammalleri, who had more points and doesn't flop around on the ice like a fish, get's less money. I don't get it. It'd be nice if they had some consistancy with these cases. Cammalleri got robbed. End of story.
-
Yeah, but come on. The 1st round pick was the only holding point. Now, if we had actually used that pick, I'd be fine with it. But we gave it up anyways at the draft, and for what exactly? A 2nd round pick and some other low round pick if I remember correctly. I don't know about you, but I don't get particularly excited when the Wings give away 1st round picks for basically nothing, and then draft some guy named Steve Buttf*** in the 6th round. It was me, and I'm glad someone else finally realizes it. This is one of my problems with Holland, is that he signs the most boring players for the bottom 6 roles. You know, bring in some physical presence for the bottom 6, even if it isn't a fighter, at least have him be a guy who hits people, and not be some useless road side building that doesn't use his size at all (Kopecky). I mean, sure, he signed Dallas Drake, which I guess is all I can expect from Holland. I don't have a problem with Drake, since he plays an entertaining style, something that might actually wake the dead we call a JLA crowd at those Monday night games against Columbus. But considering he's 38 years old and injury prone, doesn't it make sense to go after a younger guy who would make probably the same amount of money or near that? He clutches at straws when it comes to toughness though. Ok, think back to last years free agency. It's a dull time, when nobody is exited. Holland says "Hey, what the hell, I'll sign an enforcer". Well, now where getting somewhere. He has some choices, and some good ones too, like Krzysztof Oliwa, Ryan Vandenbussche, and a couple others for that matter. Now, before anyone says "Oliwa and Vandenbussche are goons!!!!!!!1!!!!11", the guy Holland signed incidentally is also a goon who can't play other parts of the game very well either. Who is that guy? Brad Norton, in case we all forgot. Now, the names mentioned aren't the greatest of skilled hockey players. However, unlike Norton, Oliwa and Vandenbussche have a history of being excellent fighters and do that part of the game quite well. Norton, on the other hand, is not only a bad hockey player, but also a bad fighter. See, that's my problem. Holland doesn't know these guys, and he should, because he's an NHL GM. I mean, I knew Brad Norton sucked before he played here. He bounced around on 3 non-playoff teams pre-lockout (Florida, LA, Washington), all 3 of which finished near the bottom of the standings those respective seasons he was on those teams. They all had major injury problems and talent depletion, which is probably why Norton was able to solidify himself a roster spot. They couldn't have actually thought he was good player, or a good fighter for that matter. I never said fighting was more crucial to winning then offense. I said it is crucial to winning, but not more so then offense itself. Come on though. Holland didn't sign any top 6 forwards this offseason, which I give him credit for not doing, because they all suck and are ridiculously overpaid. But really, when it comes to a decision where he's like "Well, I need thoughness!!!11!!!!!!1" and your three components are Kopecky, Drake, or a good fighter on the market who's still young and is a decent player all around, who do you take? I mean, there are other players other then Asham that can be a #1 tough guy and not suck in all other aspects of the game, contrary to the popular belief around here at these forums. He had plenty of choices, but he took the usual page out of the "Ken Holland management handbook" by signing someone for that role who is old, a former Wing, and is near the end of their career. Not that I'm totally against Dallas Drake, but there were better players. I don't count on it changing anytime soon, and yes, the Wings do have plenty of bottom 6 players, and don't have room for another. The ones we got don't impress me though, and that's my complaint. edited for grammar
-
I don't think I was going off the deep end saying that I want Asham on this team. We all have our own opinions if fighting is important or not, and I feel it is. I don't really want to think up another 10,000 word paragraph about why it is, because I've done it so many times already. I don't mind disagreeing, but you doing the OMG KENNI U NOT SINE A FIGHTSER RAWR!!!11!!!!!1 is pretty unnecessary, since I don't recall anyone actually doing that in this topic.
-
So what? Fedorov has achieved status that he's worth 7-8 million at one point in his career. Would you give him that now? At this point of who's more worth their money, Penner is definitly worth it more then Bertuzzi. Penner is an up-and-coming prospect who just scored 29 goals. Bertuzzi is a baggage claim (pun intended) that now also has a shimmering injury history to go with that. Doesn't matter what Bertuzzi did 5 years ago, he's not worth that money now, so why is that not an if situation? You seen how poorly he did with us here. No way is he worth that kind of money, or contract term.
-
Thanks for, yet again, another wonderful contribution. God forbid we actually question Ken Holland, or mention a fighter.
-
If... Take note of that word... Bertuzzi has been a big "if" since the whole Steve Moore incident. It's always "if" he's healthy. "If" his back is 100%. The word "if" has become a watermark next to his name for years now. Nonsense aside, I still firmly believe Bertuzzi is garbage, and I will stand by that. Did you happen to notice that in the one game he actually looked good for the Wings he got hurt? It sounds like that's going to become his storybook now. If he actually goes out, has a good game, plays physical, and works hard, he'll get hurt. If he's not doing that, he's as useless as Lang as far as I'm concerned. He's generally a lazy floater, and has become that ever since the Steve Moore incident. Take into account again that his one truly good game he did play with the Wings, he got hurt again. I don't believe it was in his best interest to leave Detroit, and it's not Ken Holland's fault. 2 years for a player that comes with more baggage and a now sharp injury history is ridiculous. Burke wasn't putting his best foot forward when he signed Bertuzzi. He was blinded by his man love for Bertuzzi, because Bertuzzi is a canadian who has a repuation of being an *******, just like Burke. I think that, given the majority of the fans here liked him anyways, and he was given a chance to turn things around, he should have taken a 1-year deal and stayed. You don't see Chelios bitching up a storm because Holland's not offering him 2-year deals all the time. No excuse for that. It's all a moot point now, since he's gone. We'll see what happens to him.

Starting now, I'm going to keep track of every Forsberg thread we have, and every Fedorov thread we have, then compare them at the end of the season. Just to see where it goes. Now, while it is nice that Yahoo pointed this rumor out and not Hockeybuzz.com, I still don't think there is much going into it right now. Plus, 4 million for Forsberg is out the question as far as I'm concerned. While he certainly is still a good player, he's also an injured player. Right now, I don't believe these rumors, because Forsberg has been rumored to come here since last November, when the Flyers were already out of the playoffs.
-
Too bad Bertuzzi hasn't played like a 4 million dollar player since the 2002-2003 season.
