Couldn't this have been posted in the 100 million already existing Fedorov topics?

Sorry for the double post here guys... Anyways, breaking news on the Gagne front. According to TSN the Boston Red Sox are in the midst of acquiring Gagne from Texas. The only holdup is Gagne still has to waive his no trade clause. Still no news on the Tigers yet...

Well, what do you want me to say? I have yet to see how ESPN would actually cover hockey/and or the Wings, so I can't be too sure they would cover every playoff game. If not, then there's your two solutions. Expensive, yes, but I can't think of anything else. How many people who do you know that have a TV but don't have cable or a satellite dish? I don't see how that's a reason for NBC to not broadcast games. The 2% of the population that are still living like cavemen aren't going to break the ratings if they were lost. I wouldn't shed a tear if NBC lost coverage, because I think the way they handle it sucks. Cancelling the game right when it's going on for a pre-game show of a horse race? I'm sorry, but that really airs on the side of lame in my opinion. Nevertheless, ratings for NBC this year, especially the SCF, were totally non-existant. Granted, the two teams playing were in very meek cities, but still. Who's to say things wouldn't be better on ESPN? ESPN, for as much as it's ragged on, does get a lot of the casual sports fans watching it, no matter the sport sometimes. You put the NHL back on there, and the casual sports fan now becomes a viewer. And that, my friend, is a ratings boost, which is what the NHL needs. NBC may seem like an attractive offer, because it's a big time national TV corperation, but let's be serious here. Most people who watch sports in general aren't going to watch NBC, unless Olympic swimming, PGA golf in Georgia, or horse racing is their sport.

Another one I wanted avoids arbitration. Damn it all... Chris Kelly would be an excellent 3rd/4th line player for the Wings. He brings a great combination of energy and grit (and fighting capabilities ) along with decent offensive potential. He'd be a great pickup for the Wings sometime in the future. I almost wonder at this point if these hearings will continue to go through. Most players slated for it are getting locked up before it even happens.

Vladdy. I don't even think he has any competition. At the time of his injury, he was the Wings best defenseman. So far, what he brought to this team has never been fully replaced.

Solution to everything. I don't know how people come up with the idea that if the NHL moved from Versus to ESPN they would see less Red Wing games. That's ridiculous. Versus shows, on average, two games a week, usually on Monday or Tuesday. In total, I think maybe 7-10 of those in the entire season were involving the Wings (not including the playoffs). It wouldn't be that much of a difference. ESPN would probably show the same amount of games, either one or two, and the Wings will probably get decent air time in that regard because their a popular team in a big market. It will be just the same as far as the regular season goes. As for the playoffs? Like mentioned, get Center Ice or move to Detroit.

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=215125&hubname=nhl Surprised he could never crack a starting job in the NHL. He was an excellent goalie in the Russian Super League during the lockout, and put up record setting numbers.

Rodney is part of the current bullpen woes. I know, he's on the DL, but he's been terrible all season long before that. I don't think our faith should be put into him. It's not like our bullpen was any better when he was healthy. It's been the same all season: terrible.

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=215099&hubname=nhl Not terribly important news, but I thought it was worth a mention. Miettinen is one of the few to actually make it to arbitration: most of these guys are signing deals before it happens. Also a small mention of Avery in there. No current news on his status right now.

It's used as a comparison for those who think it's so ridiculous that ESPN airs the NBA and not the NHL, which it really isn't. Sure, the NBA's ratings for the finals were bad this year, but they were still far and beyond anything that the NHL mustered in for their finals. The NHL's ratings were absolutley putred, which I why I say this gives no incentive for ESPN to even consider bringing back the NHL. I don't know why people find it so hard to believe that the NHL isn't very popular. Only 2 years ago, an entire season was lost due to labor issues. It's going to take some time to get it back to respectability.

...and I thought you were done with this topic! Strange how things change so quickly. Ok, yes, there was a misunderstanding back there, which I will apologize for. Still, it was your dumbf*** post starting the whole argument after Vladinator (sorry to drag you into this) already pointed out that there was a misunderstanding, which I realized. You could have said nothing, but preferred to be an ******* by starting the namecalling and getting your "two cents" in. That's what started the whole argument. But, you seem to be joyed into namecalling and being a dickhead, so keep at it if that's what get's you off and you seem to enjoy. Why is that necessary? I was just defending myself. See again: I did not call him any names at all, nor did I singly direct anything at him. It was all "in general". He just felt like being an assbag about it by starting this.
-
Oh is it! Well, I'm so disappointed. I love how you continue to be an ******* by doing the *shudders* thing everytime you say Uwe Krupp. More of those classic insults. May I ask: did you find those on the back of a cereal box or up your ass? ...and how so is that? I do believe you called me a "juvenile prick". I don't believe I'm overacting at all, since you seem to want to start the namecalling. Read my intial post. I said I was tired of it "in general". I didn't solely direct at you. You were the one who started being a real dick with the namecalling, so I'm just feeding it right back. I could go at this all day if you want. Try me.

ESPN is a national network, and just about as much available as NBC. If the NHL did go back, it would be about the same thing then as it is now. The coverage would probably be like the current NBC situation: very bland, with about 1 game a week. No special features or anything. And unless the NHL ever becomes real popular again, that's all you can really expect from these big markets. I still don't see it happening though. ESPN really has no incentive to even want the NHL.
-
Again, good comeback. No, go ahead and say his name, since you know so much. Yes, we can compare all free agent signings to the great Uwe Krupp! He was a bust, so that means everyone else will be too!
-
Thank you so much for the nice compliments! You know, I don't see how I'm the prick, considering you're the one who actually called me names, where as I didn't actually say anything like that to you. Pot, meet kettle. Also, real mature way to handle yourself there. Boo-hoo-hoo, so I bitched about Uwe Krupp. I'm such a terrible person, aren't I! But, seeing as the intelligence level I'm dealing with here, better off not wasting my time. Also: I must say, Krupp-Police Wings has got to be the lamest s*** I've ever seen as an insult thrown my way. Wow, you just cut right through me with that!
-
Oh Christ. Get over yourself. Sorry, unlike you, I get tired of the constant Uwe Krupp reminders. Yes, we all know what a bust he was here. You don't have to play the role of a 5th grade teacher and constantly remind us of that.

That's because the Spurs are boring. I hate it when people are so delerious to the fact that the NHL is not very popular, and yet they still criticize ESPN for showing something more popular that people will watch. I don't get it. Also: before you mention things like eating contests and dominoes or whatever: those are on during the daytime hours when hockey isn't being played. You can't say those shows are stealing the NHL, because as far as I know, hockey usually isn't played at 3:00 PM on a Tuesday. ...and just to clarify, I hate ESPN. I just think the criticism as far as the NHL is involved is stupid. The NHL is not very popular, so you really can't blame the network for wanting to show the NBA instead, which *gasp* is more popular.

Haha, yeah, and Phoenix will win the Stanley Cup. Bertuzzi was useless when he was here, and nothing gives me reason to believe he won't be useless in Anaheim. He single-handingly comes with more baggage than any other player in the league.
-
I know it was, but just the mention is enough. It's the not the first time people like to get their kicks about discrediting something by saying "Do you remember Uwe Krupp lolz!!!!!!!!!1".
-
When has anyone else actually said it? Sorry, I didn't mean to upset yet another die hard Fedorov fan who is delusional to the truth that Fedorov threads are like store coupons around here. You know, it's annoying seeing countless "Bring back Feds!!!!!!!!!111" topics day in and day out. But hey, that's just me. I'm sure other people feel the same way when the word "grit" is mentioned.
-
Truer statements have never been spoken. This is the only thing that could explain anyone giving Bertuzzi that much money. He hasn't been worth anything close to 4 million since 2003. Any sane person knows that. The contract term is even worse. How could you risk putting yourself on the books with him for 2 years with his current injury problems? He could suffer a career ending back injury out of training camp, and they'd be stuck paying him for the next 2 years. Insanity. Burke screwed himself, and because of this, he'll either lose Dustin Penner or be in salary cap hell. If he could have put his man love for Bertuzzi aside just once in his life, he would have been fine. Luckily, this should stop the constant comments of how Burke is the best GM of all time, and everything he touches turns to gold. This signing is proof enough that's not true.
-
Not another Fedorov topic... We should have some kind of counter here saying "It has been X amount of days since we've last had a Sergei Fedorov thread". I think it would be quite appropriate, granted it probably wouldn't get past 2 days though.
-
He'll go through arbitration, get a 1 year deal, then probably walk next year during free agency. I would love to have Avery, but to have any chance of getting him, we'd have to wait a year. I don't see New York just letting him get away now.
