I'm not sold on that logic. Everytime I watch him play, he never looks that good. Yes, he did score a shootout winner against the Wings earlier, but still. If he actually stays healthy, and proves he can play at a top level, than maybe I'll be more sold on the idea. Until the season starts though, I will think the same way as I do now. If that happens, it still does nothing for the 2nd line. I'd be happy if Holland got someone else, another top 6 forward obviously, along with Fedorov if it must be. Then we'll have what we need in help on the 2nd line, and Fedorov to appease everyone.

If it's a 2nd line forward that the Wings need, than how is this in any relevant at all?

He has more fight potential than anyone the Wings currently have in their system. Signing Gelech was a small step in the right direction to bringing back toughness through fighting. He's not a major heavyweight, but he's more willing then anyone we currently have. I'd like to see the Wings give him a shot sometime next season if possible.

GordieSid&Ted, you read my mind, and saved me from saying the same thing. Seriously though, you couldn't be more right in this situation. I don't know where people come off like Fedorov is as good now as he was 5-10 years ago. ...and I must say: this whole thing with him playing defense is pretty ridiculous. Why not go out and get a natural defenseman if that's what you want? Sorry, but I want a 2nd line center/forward who can still play, not some washed up shell like Fedorov.

Interesting... Zetterberg's future salary is obviously an issue. When healthy, he's a 100 point scorer, which he could have easily hit this year if not for dickhead Brad Stuart and his crosscheck to Zetterberg's back. Draper won't be making as much as he's making now, unless he wins another Selke, but he could still make a fairly decent amount. He is extremely versitle with his PK's skill and faceoff ability. Holland better do all he can to lock up Cleary. He's a heart and soul player that the Wings can't afford to lose. If he can keep up the pace, he could also be a big time goal scorer. He was once touted to be that mind you, so he could very well find his touch here like he did in juniors. Franzen isn't considered a "must sign" in my opinion. He's all right, but has never really impressed me over a long stretches. I hope he doesn't become a problem with salary. While I would have loved Penner, I understand that it's not logical to go after him at this point. edited for grammar

Tool - Schism

Burke has nobody to blame but himself. He should have locked up Penner before he decided to pillage the Wings by signing Schneider and Bertuzzi. Lou: why are you supporting Burke? Penner should have came first. That's how it works. You worry about your own RFA's before you go on a shopping spree with free agents. Essentially, Penner could have replaced Selanne himself. Burke went out and overpayed Bertuzzi by a mile, and that's how he screwed himself. If he could just, for once, put his man love for Bertuzzi aside, he would have been fine. The Ducks don't need Bertuzzi. Penner is a younger, better, and cheaper (well, was cheaper) version of Bertuzzi. Burke screwed himself again, and has nobody to blame but himself. He deserves what he get's anyways: he's always been a little whiny ***** to the media.

On a choice scale... who would you all rather have? A proven Vezina winner in Kiprusoff or an unproven Howard? I think I take Kiprusoff. Not saying he'll automatically come here, but if the option is available it should be looked it. I don't want Kiprusoff passed by for an unproven rookie.
-
Isn't there anyone else we could get though? I mean, why is it that every year our only options are all washed up or former Wings? Come on, it's ridiculous. I hate the perception around here that signing with the Wings will automatically turn one's career around... like the Wings are all of a sudden made of magic or something. While were at it, why not just sign Alexandre Daigle out of the 3rd tier Swiss league? Coming to Detroit doesn't revive someones career automatically, like many wish to believe. It didn't work for Bertuzzi, so why assume it'll work for Fedorov? Besides that, Fedorov didn't want to play here. He could have compromised the Wings leaving out the 5th year he wanted by negotiating a shorter term. I hate it when these guys are all set on long terms, and leave just because they don't get it right away. If Fedorov truly wanted to stay here, he would have accepted the deal that the Wings offered him. I can't stand Fedorov anymore... I have my reasons. The last thing the Wings need is an unmotivated, lazy player like Fedorov. Again I disgress: we just rid of a guy who was the exact same way. So why bring in someone else that's just as bad?
-
Ugh... neither. I wish Fedorov would retire already. I'm so sick of hearing his name coming back to this team. Lazy and unmotivated... remind anyone of that one guy we just got rid of? Forsberg is an ass bag, and I have my reasons for not wanting him. Knowing Holland though, I really can forsee Fedorov coming back to this team unfourtantly. If it does happen... ugh... I won't know what to say...

Diver is not a 4 million a year player. He's ok, but he's not that good. I assume with the loss of Drury and Briere that Diver should get a 2nd line spot now, with Tim Connolly (provided that he's healthy) being the 1st line center. edited for grammar

Wow, what a great story. Just proves once again why hockey players are the best of all pro-athletes in sports. That's amazing how Radivojevic and Hossa were able to do that themselves. They are both great people for what they did.

Balsillie group accuses Bettman of forcing Preds to break off talks

It's still better than Nashville. My number one choice is Houston. Second biggest city in Texas behind Dallas, has a few minor league teams already, has a new arena, and a decent hockey following. Plus, I think Texas needs another team, as it's a big enough state to do so, and Houston is a big city. Not to take anything away from the Stars, but another team in Houston would be good for the state in general. My 2nd choice is Las Vegas. It's one of the biggest cities in the country, has plenty of Canadian and northern transplants, and would be a good place for a team in my opinion. I'd give 20 cities a team before I give Nashville a team again. It's not a southern bias thing either. Note my two examples are both southern cities. I have my reasons for not liking Nashville. edited for grammar -
Some of the names I do recognize, mostly from older hockey video games. On that note: I actually had Greg Kuznik on one of my teams as the #6 defenseman, and he was pretty good. Mind you it was still a video game though.

Aye first mate' Marc. It be' me. Ye' are all yatterin' s' much here that it be' hard fr' an' ol' pirate such as meself to keepin' up. Ye all be' walkin' th' plank if ye keep it up.

Aye mates! We're be th' crew? We be needin' more pirate yatterin' here! Aye!

That game was utterly sickening. Watching them blow that lead made me want to eat a baby. ...and they lost again today, damnit. Jeez, Chicago sucks. This shouldn't be happening.
-
Excellent point. I never even thought of that. I don't really think Selanne will come here to Detroit, but I really don't think he'll go back to Anaheim. It's a real slap in the face by Burke to go out and sign Bertuzzi like that without giving Selanne any real time to think about his decision. Plus, like you said: the whole thing with Bertuzzi and Moore comes into place, since Selanne was on the Av's when it happened. Selanne will have to take a paycut to stay in Anaheim now. He is getting older now, and considering he came off of a great season (48 goals and 94 points), he isn't going to want to be shortchanged.
-
He may be small, but since he's a great player, I'll give him a break. Seriously though, I'd love it if Cammalleri were signed here. He's a dynamic hockey player in a lot of ways, and he'd fit in very nicely with the Wings system.

Why would the Wings get rid of Maltby after giving him a 3-year extension? Most of the guys the Wings signed are all AHL bound. These guys like Hartigan, Vernarsky, Mark Cullen, etc. etc., have no real chance of beating out Maltby. The only one who does is Matt Ellis, and even he won't do that. Maltby is here to stay, like it or not. Maltby is still very helpful to this team, so I don't know why everyone hates him so much. Other then Dallas Drake, he's the only forward on the team who will hit and agitate people on a regular basis. He has become inconsistant since the lockout ended, but he still does his job just fine. Besides that, the Wings organization is built off of loyalty. They're not going to bid Maltby farewell for someone like Hartigan or Vernarsky, who by the way, are unproven at the NHL level. Maltby isn't going anywhere. Deal with it.
-
Vernarksy has a few NHL games of expierence with Boston. He's also a Michigan native, so that might give him the edge to someone else. He is big and physical, which I like, but it depends if he can put together other aspects of his game. He's still young, so he has potential.
-
If that's his logic, then he would have been smart to do these offer sheets way back at the start of free agency. Now, he really doesn't have anyone to go out and get. The market is very dry.
