The new arena would be a huge plus for the Oilers. Rexall Place is currently the 3rd oldest arena in the NHL, ahead of only the Nassau Memorial Veterans Coliseum (NY Islanders) and Mellon Arena (Pittsburgh Penguins). Having a new arena for the Oilers would be a step in the right direction.

You basically act that way everytime someone says something negative. You know, I didn't realize that Matt changed the name of this forum from LetsGoWings.com to BlindhomerWingsfans.com. God forbid I actually question the great Ken Holland, and actually have an opinion on a fan forum. If we all thank like you, we'd all be blind homers. But why should I bother? All arguing with you does is feeding the trolls. All you like to do is get into arguments with people because they don't have their heads shoved up Ken Hollands ass and are spoonfeeding him compliments like he's the God of all GM's ever to exist in pro sports.

Johnson has been a top 6 winger before, but only for bad teams. Still, he wouldn't be a bad fit for the Wings. He could come cheaply, and is well liked in the locker room.

Oh gee, what a surprise: Crymson being an *******. Get over yourself. This is a fan forum. Everyone has their own opinions. Stop trying to dictate what people can and cannot say. You're not a mod, nor an admin.

Already signed by the Boston Bruins. http://bruins.nhl.com/team/app?page=Player...mp;service=page

You're sense of humor is on par with a wooden board. Also, your perception of Norton is totally off base. He has never been able to make a team, no matter where he plays. He couldn't even play that well on the Grand Rapids Griffins, which is an AHL team. He has no place in the NHL, and San Jose signing him was merely a depth move. Besides that, he didn't win a single fight when he was up with the Wings. He was totally useless.

Now, if the greedy bastard would just lower his salary demands. This whole thing about Markov really pisses me off. The man is not a 4 million a year player. He's an ok defenseman, but he's not that good.

Ah yes... the ever popular enforcer discussion... it's a LGW classic! Now, I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I really wish the Wings did have someone who is willing to drop the gloves on a regular basis (not a one-hit wonder like Lilja). This is why I've advocated guys like Asham and Hall: they can both play the game with decent skill, and fight on a regular basis. But, I seriously doubt Holland will ever pick up anybody like that ever again. Why? He's so set on having the Wings win a Stanley Cup with a predominantly European team with very little to no toughness. Very slim chance that will ever happen though, since it has never been done before. Oh well. It's been the same thing since the lockout ended. I guess it just challenges Babcock to see if he can get these guys to play tough on a regular basis. One playoff year does not qualify as a regular basis. We'll see how these guys do next season.

Damn it Holland. You dropped the ball AGAIN!!!!!!!!1 START MANNING THOSE PHONES!!!!!!111!!!!!!!1

Elkund says these players are on the Detroit radar.
Kp-Wings replied to Majsheppard's topic in General
Why? Because I hate him, yet wouldn't be against signing him? At this point, there isn't dick left in the top 6 forward market. Forsberg, for as much of a s***bag he is, is the only truly decent top 6 forward left that can still be a dominant forward in the league. These guys like Yashin and what not are all crapshoots. You never know when their actually going to play to their potential. In all honesty, I wish Holland would sign Jeff O'Neill instead, and Forsberg would just go back to Sweden. I can't stand Forsberg. Again though, if Jeff O'Neill gets signed and Forsberg is the only decent forward left, we might as well take him. Our 2nd line is pretty non-existant right now. -
Big market team, and the bandwagoners still believe their good. I don't know why the Patriots haven't been considered America's team yet. I mean, any new bandwagon fans like to hop to success, and the Patriots have been a very successful team in the NFL. More more so than Dallas, who hasn't won a Superbowl since 1995. I guess some people are still living in the past. Teams like the Cowboys, Yankees, etc. will always, for some reason, be considered America's team no matter how bad they are.

So are the New York Yankees, and their arguably "America's team" in the MLB.

Management practically admits offseason mistakes?
Kp-Wings replied to WingedWheels's topic in General
Why are you acting like we all hate Holland and think he's a horrible GM? I don't hate him, but there are stuff he does that I don't like care for. Like the unprecidented contract extensions to players who don't deserve them, such as Lilja and Samulesson. Or never really signing any naturally gritty players. And please, for the love of God, don't give me the whole "Did you watch the playoffs?" crap anymore, because I'm tired of hearing it. One playoff year does make this team automatically gritty. Besides that, I'd rather have guys like Asham on the team who naturally play that style. Not a knock on someone like Franzen, but he's not a naturally gritty player, and playing a physical game can wear someone like him down. I don't hate Holland. I think he's a good GM in certain aspects of the game, and in certain areas, he's not. He's good at not overpaying players who don't deserve it, and is good at finding talent that will fit here. What he isn't good at is signing gritty players, and his constant contract extensions to players who don't deserve them. Now, not a knock on Maltby here either, since I like Maltby, but do you really that, judging by the way he's played post lockout, that he deserves a 3-year contract extension? That's a bit much in my opinion. I have my criticizims for Holland, but I have my compliments for him as well. Besides, it seems like every year that I doubt him, he always seems to prove me wrong. I figured that I might as well keep doing what I'm doing. Reverse-psychology is like magic. edited for grammar -

You read my mind. -
I don't hate Lilja, but I don't like him either. His givaway in Game 5 of the Anaheim series is not the first time he tried to carry the puck out of the corner, stickhandle through guys, only to completely lose the puck and the Wings get scored on. I remember two specific examples, against Phoenix and Edmonton, last season when he did the same thing, and the same exact results came about. You think at that point he'd learn what a horrible stickhandler he is and just play it safe. Since clearly he didn't, I really don't want him in the lineup. edited for grammar

Management practically admits offseason mistakes?
Kp-Wings replied to WingedWheels's topic in General
I'm the exact same way as most on here. I don't like Holland, but I'm not really bashing him for what he's done this offseason. I mean, sure, I would love to have Ryan Smyth on the Wings. But the salary cap prevents that from happening, and Zetterberg is a far more important part of this teams future. I don't want him to get away just because we signed Smyth. The salaries that these guys like Gomez and Briere are making are just ridiculous. You notice that all the teams that had an active offseason (with the exception of the Rags) are all big market teams who had terrible seasons (Philly, Colorado, Toronto, St. Louis, Chicago). Many of the good teams (exception here of Anaheim) really didn't do too much at all during this offseason. Holland has done a fine enough job this offseason. Rafalski is an upgrade over Schneider, and I like Dallas Drake. And he didn't overpay for any of the big names that aren't worth it. That said, like others, I still don't like Holland. I have my reasons, and I'm sticking to them. -
Seabrook and Duncan Keith will be the 'Hawks #1-2 defenseman respectivily. Zyuzin was brought in as a solid depth defenseman, which he can certainly fill the role of. That may be, but even despite Lang's blaringly obvious deficiencies, he should still produce some decent points with Havlat. I mean, he still did score 52 points on a line with Williams for most of the season, and the 2nd half was spent with Calder and Bertuzzi, who did nothing either.

Eklund says Wings are interested in Josef Melichar
Kp-Wings replied to SwedeLundin77's topic in General
No he isn't. Still, there are better choices over Melichar. If it did come down to Melichar or Lilja though, I'd take Melichar in a heartbeat. I still haven't forgiven Lilja for his idiotic play in Game 5 of the Anaheim series, the same exact play that he got burned on more than once during the season. He's a horrible puckhandler. I hope Eklund is wrong, as usual, about this. My main want for the defense is Andy Sutton. The Wings need size and physical play back on the blueline. Kronwall is really the only physical defenseman we got right now, unless you also decide to count Lilja. -
Yeah, those coaches were Wayne Gretzky and Ken Hitchcock. Two pure assholes who even the nicest of people can find it extremely difficult to get along with (well, Gretzky is a nice guy as a person, but as a coach he's a total dickhead). Seriously, I wouldn't mind Roenick, only because he's one of my favorite players, and I've always wanted to see him play here. He'd be better than Kopecky.
-
Many of us, such as myself, don't have TSN here in the US. It's kind of hard to talk about what went on during the show when most of us couldn't watch it.
-
Did he really have more hits? Wow, I thought Donovan would have smoked him in that catagory. I just thought Schaefer had a few more points, which wouldn't really be missed because of the top line.
-
That he does. In fact, I hear the league is already etching his name in the Vezina Trophy. Berkhoel is so good that their already giving it to him before the season even starts.
