Well, Let's see what we really gave up. We Got Wendel Clark and our own 6th round pick back (Possibly from teh Shawn Burr/Ben Hankinson Trade? Ben Hankinson, Terrible Trade) for Kevin Hodson and San Jose's 2nd round choice (previously acquired, Tampa Bay selected Sheldon Keefe) in 1999 Entry Draft Meh. I liked Hodson, But really, we didn't give up much Ulf Samuelsson March 23, 1999 – Traded by the New York Rangers to the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for Detroit's 1999 2nd round draft choice and the Ranger's 1999 3rd round draft choice. (99 2nd round pick was - David Inman, 3rd round pick - Patrick Aufiero) Gave up Nothing for Samuelsson's 4 Games with us. Bill Ranford We got him for a "conditional" Draft pick. I'm not going to do the research to find out what that turned out to be. But if the conditions were If he sucks, you don't get much.....they didn't get much. We Got Chelios For Ericsson and 2 First Rounders. (Steve McCarthy and Adam Munro) think we had a Decent Deadline. Loaded up for the Playoffs. Gave up Nothing. Just like the Lang and Bertuzzi deals....gotta like the Fact that if we have a Chance at the Cup, we'll go out and get the best available players in order to push us over the top.

A) Spengler Cup/World championships are completley relevant...You can't put too much stock into them, because it's not best vs. Best. If you put a Maple Leaf on my chest and me and my buddies take on the US national team in Curling and lose, does that mean USA is better at curling than Canadians? No. It's not best vs. best. b)1996 World cup I was 12, and I probably knew more about hockey then any casual american fan knows now. at 12 years old, hockey was my life. Since then, yeah, I'm a sports geek. it's not just off the top of my head recollection, it's looking at the all time statistics, I looked back at the rosters, I know the 91 Canada Cup rosters, I watched the 96 world Cup, and if anything I gave USA Hockey Credit. I said take away Lemieux and Gretzky, and there's not much of a difference in between the countries back then. You can't compare todays American Talent to the talent you had 15 years ago. I'm sure any American would agree. I'm sure if a 12 year old today looked at today's team and the US talent in 1994 and would say today's is better. I could tell you that canadian hockey was More dominant over US hockey in the 50's too. I didn't have to be born in the 50's to know that. c) In Canada, UK, Australia, and pretty much any other English speaking country in the world it's spelt Honour, Coulour, Favourite, Defence, Draught. I hear a lot about being arrogant and ignorant, well, enough said. Am I really arrogant? Or am I just right? If you went telling people the Grass is green, and someone said you're wrong and you capitalised ( <---- British English) the wrong word, how would you respond? And if you were so sure of yourself that the grass was green, and you got nothing but arguments from Brazilians, and only brazilians, telling you it's not, not telling you why it's not, not telling you what it really is, but just telling you it's not, and you're wrong, and arrogant for beign so sure of yourself that the grass is green, what would you do? You'd show pictures of grass, and you'd show pictures of green, and you'd show statement of scientists saying that the grass is green and why it's green. That's all I've done here. Canadian Hockey is still better than American Hockey. Our 18-19 year olds are better than your 18-19 year olds. The grass is green. None of these statements can be argued. At some point, you too would probably say, I don't know what's up with all these Brazilians telling me the grass isnt' green. D) Someone before was arguing that Since don Cherry only played in 1 NHL game in 1955, he's not qualified to talk about hockey. I was just listing his qualifications. I don't think you NEED to have played in the NHL in order to be knowledgeable about hockey, But this guy did. If the entire basis of an argument is Don Cherry shoulnd't be qualified to talk hockey because he only Played 1 NHL game, I simply had an argument to destroy that. e) We still put together a Very good team, capable of winning. Like I said before, take the top 8 players of the Canadian olympic team, and we still have enough talent to replace them and Make a strong run at the gold. We'll all still get behind that team, and love them, but if they lose, by 1 goal, in OT, you can't help but point to the fact that our top 8 players were out. Look at the Wings this year. Look at all the Injuries. Take out Zetterberg, Franzen, Kronwall, Cleary, Filppula, Holmstrom, Jason Williams and Ericsson. If we make it to the Finals without those 8 players, and lose in game 7 OT, sure you say congrats to the team that beat us, but your'e still proud of your guys, and you HAVE to say, well, if we got that close without all those guys, what would we have done WITH them. People Still talk about our guys not beign 100% last year. There is no Lobbying the Islanders and the Lightning to release Stamkos and Tavares for the world Juniors. Our 18-19 year olds are among the best players on their NHL teams. Team USA's best 18-19 year olds beat what was left of what we had. Taylor Hall Should be an NHL star, but he Experts are saying Eberle will probably top out at 30 goals, and at best be a consistand 20-25 goal scorer. Jason Arnott is the High Water Mark for that kid. He's not our best. Tavares and Stamkos are. I didn't say USA didn't Deserve to win this Tournament. I've said Congrats many times. What i'm saying Is, Settle down. Don't get too ahead of yourself. Canada's development is so far advanced that half of our "Junior" team is in the NHL. Put a Roster of each other's top 18-19 year olds, and Canada blows you away. The Olympics are close to a Fair Test of What country is the The Best. In 2006 We wern't. Sweden Was. This year, I think it's between Canada and Russia, but who knows. Ryan Miller could stand on his head and steal a game or two, and knock Canada out, or knock Russia out. Who knows in a 1 game elimination tournament. I think the best way to judge which country is ahead of anyone else, is who's putting the most players into the NHL. Sorry, Canada's the Best. Canada's the best at Hockey. USA is the Best at Track and Field, Baseball, Basketball, Football, Golf, Olympic Events in General. United States has the Best Overall athletes in the World. There's no Disputing that. But Canada's the Best at Hockey.

Sorry, I meant worst Red Wings Trade And I meant Trade, not signings. Yeah, Krupp was Brutal, as was Whitney, Hatcher and Robitaille (4.5 mil for 11 goals and 4th line duties in his 2nd year)
-
Personally I think Ovechkin's the world's best player. I'd Put Crosby and Malkin at 2a and 2b. They choose to be great at different times, It seems. The Next tier of greatness includes Thornton, Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Heatley, Lecavalier, etc. I'm a Wings Fan, But you need to Understand, in Canada, we don't exactly have Fox Sports Detroit, Fox Sports Chicago, Fox Sports Bay Area, MSG Network YES, etc. etc. We have TSN. It's Kinda like Fox Sports net Canada. That's why it focuses on all Canadian teams, it's the Home network for all of Cananda. It would be like complaining that Fox Sports Detroit focuses 20 minutes on a red wings game and only a few minutes on the rest of the NHL. We Have Regional Sportsnets but it only covers 4 regions. Ontario, East, West and Pacific. Sports net isn't at the Quality of Fox sports, or can even hold a Candle to TSN. So as a Wings fan that gets their NHL highlights from TSN, and No access to Fox sports Detroit, it's very frustrating following the Detroit teams. But you've gotta Understand, there is not Fox Sports Toronto, there is no Fox Sports Vancouver, there is no Fox Sports Montreal there is No Fox Sports Edmonton or Calgary. How many people in Winnipeg are interested in the Leafs/Flames game? And how many people in Winnipeg are interested in the Tampa Bay Atlanta game? The Canadian TV Market just isn't big enough to support so many different networks, in order to Give each game Full coverage. fortunately NHL.com, detroitredwings.com and letsgowings.com gives us what we need when we want it.

Again, Maybe I am a bit over stated, but that's because I'm right, and no one has even begun to argue a single point I've made in either post. So far all I've gotten was a bunch of americans critiquing my spelling (one word) and over use of the caps button. Iv'e been called a sore loser (Which I'm not. I said, congrats to team USA, they've done nothing wrong, but like Germany beating "Team Canada" in the Spengler cup, it's not the REAL Team Canada). In 2006 Sweden won the Gold fair and square. we appointed the best GM we thought we had, and he put what he felt was the absolute Best Team Canada on the ice. No excuses, in 2006, Sweden was Better than Canada. With Guys like Naslund, Forsberg, Lidstrom, The Sedins, Franzen, Zetterberg, Homstrom etc. THe had Great players all playing in or around their prime. This year, I think you'll see the effects of not having Lidstrom, Franzen, Homlstrom, Forsberg, Naslund at the top of their games, or not having them at all. These Americans on this board seem to be getting frustrated because they can't argue any of the Facts that I've said. When you get Frustrated in an online argument, and you've gotten crushed, there's really nothing left to do, but try to attack the person that's crushing you, as opposed to attacking the actual discussion at hand. I haven't said one negative word about anybody that's tried to dispute me, I just back my self up with facts. All you can do is pick out the Word I spelled wrong. It's probably a lot easier not to spell words wrong when all you're able to come back with are 1 line posts going after things that have nothing to do with the subject at hand. Good on ya, USA....Good on ya
-
I capitalized ONE Sentance, because it's a really good point, and the American readers on here complain about having to read too much. If you read nothing but that sentance, you'll still get the point. This is pretty much the response I was expecting. You can't attack the points, but this post bothers you. It bothers you because it's true, and there's nothing you can say to dispute it. The only thing you can say against me is that you disapprove of my use of the CAPS lock Key. That's the argument I expected back from the Americans. Way to Prove me right.
-
HA, I make a long, Intelligent Response that really Can't Be argued, And All I get is that I'm whining and a sore loser? Way to argue an actual developped thought with Facts to back it up with "you're a sore loser" Typical American not to let facts get in the way of how they feel. 1. I don't care that no Canadian team has won the Cup since 93. I'm a Wings fan, not a Canadian Hockey team Fan. 2. USA hasn't "Come the Furthest" If anything, USA's Dropped off the most, Drowning in Irrelevancy for years until just now in the past 4-5 years they're actually getting Talent again. In the Early - Mid 90's they were almost On par with Canada. Take away Gretzky and Lemieux, and I don't see that Much of a Difference in Canadian and American Hockey. Then You Dropped. No new Great Young Americans until Kessel/Kane/Stastny.....And it's a Bit too early to call them great yet. 3.Don Cherry played a Long Long Proffesional Career in the "Minor" leagues. He played with and against some of the All time Greats. It was a 6 team league back then. Imagine if the NHL was a 6 team League today. Guys like Hlem, Abdelkader, Cleary, Osgood, Howard, and some of your other Favorites wouldn't have even Sniffed the NHL. If the NHL in the 50's were a 30 team league, you're damn sure Cherry would have had a 20 year NHL career.....But again, don't let facts get in the way of your feelings. 4. The Whole A team/B team argument was Mine. Yeah, the entire Country gets up for this tournament as if it were life and death, but really, half our players.....the Better half of our players wern't there. To win with a team like that is cause for celebration, To lose once every 6 years and walk away with a Silver, meh, who cares. Canada Lost the Spengler Cup this year. Got knocked out by the Germans. Does that mean German Hockey is on the Rise, and canadians should be afraid? No, We don't send our Best players to the Spengler Cup, It's not a true representation of Canadian Hockey. CAN ANYONE NAME THE PAST 6 WINNERS OF THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP OFF THE TOP OF THEIR HEAD????? No. Why not? Cause world Championship teams consist of the best players on teams that didn't make the playoffs that decide they want to paly another month or so of Hockey. If Canada won the World Championship, Or USA won it, would any one really care? You'll be proud of your boys, but really.....it's not true representations of each countries hockey. Now, Imagine the World Championship, or even the Olympics, where EAch Country got to send it's Best NHL players, Except Some Teams woulnd't release their players for the olympics. Crosby, Thornton, Brodeur, Luongo, Marleau, Iginla, Richards, Boyle wern't allowed to play. Sure, Canada has enough talent to replace them, and Sure the Patch work Canadian Team might STILL Win the Gold, but if they don't, if someone beats them, be proud of your boys, but all I'm saying is.... Settle down....You didn't beat us at our best. It's like going into a UFC fight, and the Other Guy has a Pulled Hamstring. If you beat him you beat him. You get the Win on your record, you get the winners Prize money, you get one step closer to a title, or even win a championship.....But really, you know.....you didn't beat the other guy at his best. I hope some of you Americans can see the point. Maybe that's the difference between us. Canadians are honorable people that if we beat someone and we knew they were down, we're not going to pat ourselves on the back and rub it in their faces. We'll feel almost guilty for taking on someone that wasn't at their best. Where as Americans will take it sing about it, and tell themselves that they're the best. Go ahead, USA, You did nothing wrong by beating us, But if you want to sing about how you kicked our ******* asses, and brag about the Development of USA Hockey, You've got a Rude awakening come Olympic time. I don't expect anyone to dispute my points again, for a second time. Because you really can't. So call me a whiner, call me a sore loser, but what you can't do, is you really can't prove me wrong. Don't let my facts get in the way of your little celebration.

I live In Windsor. Huge Wings/Leafs Rivalry Here. Basically My Sister Liked the Wings, When I was 7-8 years old, She was 5 years older than me and watching hockey During the playoffs. It Must have Been Game Seven in the 92 playoffs that I saw, It was a tight low scoring game, and if you would have Asked me that night who the Greatest goalie in History was, I woulda Told You It was Jon Casey. I got a couple Packs of Hockey Cards in the Next year, And Decided I was Going to Be a Hockey FAn. I got a Few games on TV throughout 92-93, Collected hockey Cards and Magazines, but really didn't know all that much about the game and the players. I finally got To WATCH hockey in the 93 playoffs, and saw the Leafs knockout the Wings in the first round. I watched the Rest of the Playoffs, and that Summer I got pretty Hardcore into it, and have been ever since. Also, Living in Windsor, It takes about 25 minutes to get from My house to the Joe, whereas it takes about 4 hours to get from my house to the ACC. I can See Joe Louis From across the River, and Toronto's 4 hours away. Those were really the 2 factors behind becoming a Wings Fan....... It's really cool to hear the Different Stories people have.

Before the Start Of the Leafs Game, I actually thought about this, and Posted it as My Facebook Status "USA's BEST 18-19 Year olds Won the Gold Medal This Year. Congrats. Canada's Best 18-19 Year olds are playing in the NHL this year. Way to beat our B team, USA....Game's Still ours (Matt Duchesne, Tyler Myers, John Tavares, Evander Kane, Ryan O'Reilly, Del Zotto, Stamkos, Cody Hodgson)" REally, Congrats on Team USA Winning this year (Finally) But Really, Take out your best 8 players and see how well you do. Probably won't make it to the Finals. Can ANYONE really Argue that A team that looked like THIS G- Jake Allen G - Martin Jones Still Have Weak Goaltending IMO, But it was good enough to hang on until OT of the Gold Medal Game. An Improved team in front should Change the Outcome. D Alex Pieterangelo - Tyler Myers Ryan Ellis - Michael Del Zotto Jared Cowen - Calvin De Haan Forwards Evander Kane - John Tavares - Jordan Eberle Matt Duchesne - Steven Stamkos - Cody Hodgson Nazim KAdri - Taylor Hall - Ryan O'Reilly Patrice Cormier - Brayden Schenn - Gabriel Bourque Like I said on Facebook. THe Best American 18-19 year old Hockey players won the Gold Medal. The Best Canadian 18-19 Year olds are Playing in the NHL. Congratulations to team USA for beating Canada's B team this year. You got a glimpse of What Team Canada can Put together in 2005, The Year of the Lockout, The year of Crosby, Phaneuf, Patrice Bergeron, Jeff Carter, Mike Richards, Corry Perry, Ryan Getzlaf, Brent Seabrook, Cam Barker, Brayden Coburn, Shea Weber. Look at the Players Team Canada CUT That year D - Mike Green (Tough luck getting cut from Canada 2 times) Kyle Quincey, Dustin Boyd, David Bolland, Eric Fehr.... (all NHLers) The 2005 Teams Crushed The Russian team (that included Ovechkin and Malkin) 6-1 in the Finals. Don Cherry Was Mad Because Team USA was Singing in the Locker room about Kicking Canada's f***ign Asses. His point is, if you wanna put it that way, if we would have put our entire eligible team like you did, it would have been men against boys. We've been hearing Nothing but the "Great advancement in USA Hockey" After Seeing the WJC win and Winning the under 17 tournament. Calm down..... Canada doens't send a Team canada to the under 17's. We send a Team Ontario, a team Quebec, a team Maritimes etc. We have enough talent to send multiple teams to that tournament, and Team USA only has 1. Talk about Development. Canada's Development is So far ahead that half of our "Junior" Team is lighting it up in the NHL, While Team USA's juniors simply arn't good enough. Cherry also made the point that USA Isn't developing all their players.....A Number of them come over to Canada to play over here. Namely, Cam FOwler, playing for the Spits, and The Goalie Campbell, who's coming over to the Spits next year. With all that said, I'm Glad USA is back to being number 2 in the world. You play more of a Canadian Style of Hockey, and I'd Like for the Rivalry to get back to the Level it was at in the 90's When USA Truely had Exeptional Talent. You don't see the Talent level of Leetch, Chelios, Modano, LaFontaine, Roenick, Kevin Stevens, Mike Richter, John Vanbiesbrouck, Bill Guerin, Gary Suter, Tony Amonte, Brett Hull, Kevin and Derian Hatcher, LeClair Weight and Keith Tkachuck. The Only Superstars I can Note as of Today are Ryan Miller, Paul Stastny, Patrick Kane, Kessel and Parise. There are Some Younger players that Could elevate to that Level, but there was really a Talent drought of Americans Entering the league from about 93ish-03ish USA is Becoming Relevant again in International Hockey......But all us canadians are saying is..... Settle Down.

Terrible. The Whole Point of the Overtime Loss = 1 Point was so teams didn't play trap hockey back and forth and take the Guarenteed 1 point for a tie instead of playing to win. When it was just 1 point for a tie, both teams in OT would play super boring/conservative hockey because they didn't want to make any mistakes and leave the game with nothing. Overtime Sucked. This would provide you with the same lackluster OT's that they were rying to avoid. Neither team would try in OT, let it go to a shootout where you've guarenteed your point, and play from there. Back to square 1 with nobody trying to win games in OT By Giving both teams an automatic point, and rewarding a bonus 1 point for winning the game, teams had nothing to lose, and could play balls to the wall and try and get the win. It was a Great concept. But now with a Shhotout instead of a tie, there is no need for the Loser point. Both teams have to play to win now, anyways. There is no settling for a tie. The Extra point is no longer relevant and shoulnd't be in the game anymore 2 points for a win 0 for a Loss . In fact, you don't really even NEED points anymore, it'll just come down to wins and losses. No need for the Extra point.

Was looking through the Yahoo Player numbers, and Some of them are quite odd..... Some of them Seem to make sense, and some of them Not Player number 1 is Wayne Gretzky....ok, Fine, I get it. number 2 is Kevin Stevens ..... ??? Huh? Number 3 is Brett Hull Number 4 Roenick 5 Yzerman 6 Pat Lafontaine......But they only show his stats from 92-88 for some reason. 7 Sakic 8 Robitaille 9 Gary Roberts 10 Mark Messier 11 Mark Recchi 12 Pierre Turgeon 13 Brian Leetch 14 Dale Hawerchuck It's hard to find a Common Pattern....but maybe the top players from 1992? Which Got me thinking.....Where's Mario? So I tried Player number 66.....sure enough, Mario Lemieux I thought I wonder how many players they did this for.... 88 Was Eric Lindros 77 Sure enough is Paul Coffey 44 is.....Paul Ysebaert.......ok 33 is most definitely...... Sergei Fedorov? 22 Is Scott Stevens (2+2 = 4????) 91 is Peter Ahola.....Peter Ahola hasn't been around in years. His stats only record from 92-94, but I'm thinking I heard his name pop up out of no where at some point and played again. Maybe, Maybe not.....but If not, what's Peter Ahola doing in there? How far back do they go? do they Have Terry Sawchucks' Profile? Howie Morenz? One eyed Frank McGee? now I'm kinda addicted to the Yahoo Sports player data Base. I'm pretty sure tehy said satan's 666 was just a coincidence, but clearly, it is not. I tried to see how High this went. Player number 500, Teemu Selanne Player number 1,000 Paul Kariya......Another Pattern. Player number 10,000 doesn't exist neither does 9-4,000 Player number 3000 stephan Weiss player number 3999 Mark Mitera from the Ducks Player number 4001 Bobby Sanguinetti Rangers There is no player 4,000.....they just skipped over it There's no player 4500 Greg Nemisz of the Spits/Flames is 4501 The Last Player in the Registery is Player number 4818 Torrie Jung Goalie for the Oilers. I'm very Much intrigued as to What in blue hell Peter Ahola's Profile is doing there. So, I wondered if they just had EVERY NHL player from about 92 and up in there. I looked up Gary Shuchuk.....No Luck. Marc Potvin, Nope. Felix Potvin, yup, he's player number 415. Where does this list start? and where does it end? Bob Rouse? Nope. No Bob Rouse. If you look up Peter Ahola's Yahoo Profile on Google.....it doens't come up....that's weird. No Pat Peake, But there is a Fuhr.....he's player 200, Belfour's 100, Number 300 is.....Kris King... why Would Kris King have a Profile, and not bob Rouse? Gary Nylund has a profile. He's number 400. The only stats of his that are Shown are from 91-92 and 92-93. Apparently, Gary Nylund Finished his career with 1 goal in 29 games......He was a bit before my time, but I always heard he was a bit better than that! HA! DAve Barr even has a Profile. No Bob Rouse, But DAve Barr gets his.... he's number 800, only played from 91-94 and was never a red wing. I can't beleive how much Time I've just spent on this.....but....I mean....Peter Ahola? I don't know what to do with this information.

Why not Have the Winter Classic on boxing day? It gfollows the same logic that everybody's home watching TV anyways.....only the only thing to watch right now is Marshall vs. Ohio. I'd say put the first Game at 1, second game at 4 and then You can still debut the Canadian WJC game at 7:30 It just feels like today SHOULD be a Bigger Sports day.

Interesting Ideas on what to do with the classic from the Hockey News Newsletter. I was actually thinking yesterday that it might be a good idea to make the All star game outdoors. Here are some others..... 1. Europe. The notion of bringing an outdoor game across the Atlantic Ocean was more popular among some Bruins (goalie Tuukka Rask said he already had discussed the pros and cons with his agent and friends) than others (defenseman Andrew Ference preferred to exhaust all North American outdoor destinations before taking the WC overseas). But if the league truly wants to extend its reach to outposts beyond their home continent, one of the easiest ways to do so would be to stage an outdoor game in Stockholm, Berlin, Prague or Moscow. European players would be almost as stoked as they are for major international tournaments – and that heightened sense of excitement is precisely what NHL brass should be aiming to cultivate, in as many places as possible. 2. The All-Star Game. I alluded to this in a recent Proteau Type article in The Hockey News magazine, but it bears repeating: if the league’s mid-season All-Star Game has become stale, wouldn’t it become at least a bit fresher by shifting the festivities outside? That way, fans and corporate schmooze-ees might be too cold to focus on the contact-free game that usually passes for All-Star frivolity. 3. Alaska. Hollywood has made a movie about an NHL team playing a game in the 49th state, so why not turn it into a memorable real-life adventure? The backdrop of snowbound mountains would be as majestic as it gets – and the less-than-forgiving environment might scare away a portion of the massive media flock who’ve turned virtually every interview scrum in Boston into an elbows-and-icy-glares mosh pit. 4. A Fan-Free, Remote Location. Adopting this suggestion would take some real foresight on the league’s behalf – I’ll let you make your own joke here – but picture the made-for-TV moments that would ensue if you sent two teams of NHLers to a pond in Northern Minnesota or Ontario with nary a fan in sight. That’s right, just the players, officials, two nets, a puck and the evening sky. The simplicity of the scene would be unlike anything any sport ever has produced. Granted, the financial logistics of a gate-free outdoor game would need to be addressed, but that’s what title sponsors can help out with. And if the NHL can afford to prop up the Phoenix Coyotes franchise for the next few months with little-to-no payback in sight, surely the 29 other team owners can be persuaded to invest some of their own capital into a concept that already has delivered a wealth of positive exposure for the sport
-
What a great game. Kudos to both teams for playing their guts out and putting on a great show.

USA's goalie, Campbell Is Playing for the Spits next year....the Dynasty continues GO CANADA WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 6 in a row

Good to know....gonna keep my trigger finger on Filatov in fantasy

HA! I like a guy that doesn't hide the fact that he's pissed. He just said what any one of us would feel in his situation.

Back when Numbers were First introduced, Your Number assigned you to your Bed on the Train. The Lower numbers on the bottom, higher Numbers on top. Goalie Got 1, And then Players Just wanted A number Low enough to get a good Bed. 2-29 was reserved for Players and Most Spare/Backup goalies would get 30. The highest number. Since the Back up Might not see a single minute of ice the Entire Season, Who cares how you treated him.
-
I think Different Rinks should have Different Sized Ice Surfaces.....I always thought it was Cool when you go to the Boston Gardens, and you were playing on the Smaller Surface. Borrow From Baseball and Let each team decide their Dimensions from the Boston Garden Size Rink to Olympic Sized Rinks. It'll never happen but I'd like to see it...... I think With Bigger Ice Surfaces, you're going to get less scoring. There's Less scoring in the European leagues......More Ice just means more ice away from the net....Like when they shrunk the Neutral zone to make the Offensive zones Bigger.....That just made the Point man Further away from the net on a Power play. If you're constantly closer to the Net, you're going to score more goals.

^^^^^^ This. If you go back and Watch the Quality of hockey back then.....even the 72 summit Series, those guys arn't anywhere near as athletic as today's guys. You can take any Good player now, and if you time machine them, back to the 20's-70's, they'd go down as the greatest players ever. I know people don't want ot hear this, But Put Eric Lindros in a Game against Gordie Howe, and Lindros Dominates him. Bigger, Stronger, Faster, More skill. I personally believe if you put guys like Cleary or Helm in the 50's, with their lifetime of Training, Skill set and knowledge of the game compared to what it was back then, they'd Dominate. Dominate. I think that's pretty much across the board in any sport. Today's athletes are head and shoulders above anybody from the past.....I'd like to get 40 times, verticals, How fst a player could skate around the ice, etc...... Think about what Pitchers would do to Babe Ruth today? Think about what Justin Verlander would do to a team back in the 20's......Training is different, Mechanics are different, lifestyles are different, upbringings are different.... Again, if you wanna compare goalies of Different eras....Clint Benedict.... 22 shutouts in 44 games. the Discussions begins and ends right there.

Terry Sawchuk, 103 Martin Brodeur, 101 George Hainsworth, 94 Glenn Hall, 84 Jacques Plante, 82 Alex Connell, 81 Dominik Hasek, 81 Tiny Thompson, 81 Ed Belfour, 76 Tony Esposito, 76 Lorne Chabot, 73 Harry Lumley, 71 Roy Worters, 67 Patrick Roy, 66 Turk Broda, 62 John Ross Roach, 58 Clint Benedict, 55 Ed Giacomin, 54 Bernie Parent, 54 Curtis Joseph, 51 Dave Kerr, 51 Rogatien Vachon, 51 Chris Osgood, 49 Roberto Luongo, 47 Evgeni Nabokov,[12] 47 I knew Fuhr wasn't 4th.....There's VS for ya....don't know what they were showing you.....but there are the leaders. Hainsworth took over for George Vezina for the Habs...he only played 11 seasons.....you wanna compare goalies in different eras? Hainsworth has the all time record with 22 shutouts in a 44 game season. If you're putting eras next to each other, Hainsworth > Sawchuck. What would his numbers look like if he got to play 16-20 years like Brodeur and Sawchuck? Connell played for the Original Ottawa Senators, and I'm pretty sure played for the Detroit Falcons for a year. Don't know who else you'd be talking about not hearing of...Tiny Thompson played for the Bruins in the 40's.... But with VS list that had grant Fuhr at 4th, I have no idea who they'd put up there.

Love him. Grew up Listening to Him and Dave Strader.....Sometimes, if I have a coyotes game on, and I'm not really paying attention, (doing something on the computer, maybe) after hearing dave Straders voice, sometimes It plays tricks on my mind and I assume I'm watching a wings game.....when I turn around and I see the Coyotes, I have to rack my brain to figure out what's going on.....then remind myself that the wings have a "new" voice.....I only started watching Hockey in 93, So I only got a few years of Strader and Mickey together....but it's funny how I still associate Dave Straders voice with Red Wings Hockey, and probably always will.....Glad to be able to still enjoy the OTHER voice that I associate with Red Wings Hockey.

Another Story I didn't know. Between 86-87 and 87-88, Pocklington was Shopping around Grant Fuhr, and asked the Wings if they wanted him. Ilitch said Yes. Pocklington said that he'd sell him for 5 Million Dollars, But His Gm Sather, might be tough to convince, and that he woulnd't stand by and lose Fuhr without getting any players in return....Sure enough, Jimmy D had the Negotiations, but he Said Sather Just wanted too much in return. the only untouchable on that team was Yzerman. Jimmy D didn't name the names that were brought up, but I'm wondering if that was because the names were Graves, Murphy and Klima.....who he traded anyways for Jimmy Carson.
