My understanding is the hawks cannot commit more salary next season than they could loose at the end of this season due to free agency. According to nhlnumbers.com its roughly 16.8 mil. The reported 18.1 mil cap hit for the three would put them 1.3 over.

If I understand the "tagging rule" correctly, the hawks only have to clear roughly 1.3 mil. Hawks have about 16.8 mil in expiring contracts. Reported that Kane, Toews and Kieth will make a combined 18.1 mil next season. If the Hawks have anybody on their farm team with an expiring contract , I THINK they can recall them for a day and give themselves even more tagging room. So, It is a possibility no one will have to be moved this year.

I disagree with the 1 year window. They have Kane, Toews, Hossa, Sharp, Seabrook, Keith locked up next year. That is a scary good core the hawks have. Who knows though, maybe the hawks gameplan is to win the cup in the next 2-3 years and sink into oblivion again for another 50 years.

I would hope so. They have been a joke of a franchise for the better part of a decade.

No doubt they will be good next year, but as they stand right now, they are in cap hell. Will be interesting to see who this all plays out.Bowman is either gonna come out of this looking like a genius or an idiot. Also Chicken noodle soup has a NTC I think.

He had a questionable knee on knee against Gonchar in the playoffs last year too. Edit: I wonder what the suspension flow chart has to say about this one.
