The title of this topic, basically, says it all. Sorry kids. Hudler is a holy man, walking on (frozen) water. You can't replace that.. especially not this year. :nonono:

"... to find themselves down three games to none in their best of seven playoff series . Only twice in 155 tries have NHL teams dug out from this dire deficit. The two teams to pull it off are the Toronto Maple Leafs and the New York Islanders. The Leafs accomplished the feat first with their comeback win over the Detroit Red Wings in the 1942 Stanley Cup Finals. The Islanders became the second and only other team to defy the odds doing so in their first franchise playoff run, punishing the Pittsburgh Penguins in their 1975 Quarterfinals matchup." http://www.puckreport.com/2009/04/nhl-playoff-comebacks-trailing-3-0.html It'd be disgustingly amazing to watch Detroit pull it off, but this isn't 1975. I'm not happy with this year or last year's performances, but: Like Crymson said, Wing fans have it A LOT better off than so many teams. Tempers the disappointment, at least, even though it doesn't take it away. Heroes of Hockeytown is a disreputable liar. Do not believe this man. He will mislead any and all.

No s***. Look, the Wings were THIRD IN THE LEAGUE OFFENSIVELY WITH 252 GOALS. Are you kidding me? They don't see 3 goals a game out of that? Hossa's acquisition will make people pay more attention to the scoresheet though.

Cleary becomes first Newfoundlander to win the Stanley Cup - Captain Nicklas Lidstrom first handed the Cup to Dallas Drake before Cleary got his long-awaited moment with the trophy on Wednesday night. Teammate Kris Draper insisted that he be one of the first to lift it. "I didn't know what was going to happen," said Cleary. "Drapes makes the call. It was awesome." He's talked openly about wanting to become the first Newfoundlander ever to have his name engraved on the trophy and that wish will now come true. The 29-year-old will get to bring the Stanley Cup back to his hometown of Harbour Grace, N.L., when he gets his day with it this summer. With so many people rooting for Cleary back home, he really felt the pressure as the Wings got closer to the championship. That was instantly released in the moments after Detroit's 3-2 series-clinching victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins. "It was like everything lifted off my shoulders," said Cleary. "It was a huge weight. I looked up there because I knew that's where my family was. "We did it. We did it. We finally did it."

Drake should be here next year. He ain't done. And I still remember when we traded him in '93-'94. It's good to have him back for this.

I agree with harold. The back to back SCF shutouts on top of things don't hurt his case either. And to be honest I want Ozzie to win this. I've watched the guy since he went off the ice in that Sharks early '90s series, the awesome tandem he made with Vernon in '97, through the whole run in '98, and all the years where he's hardly been given any credit by the league - I want a Conn Smythe going to this guy.
-
OMG YESNESS Hi guys, remember ME? Probably not. I hear there's a good game on tonight though.
-
On the other note, I'm glad Selanne's playing. He's one of my favs. Even if it's in Anaheim.

Just ridiculous. I didn't realize the Lightning were last in the East though? Poor Tampa.

"Scout-savvy Red Wings are still flying high and mighty"
Flip-check replied to RedStormRising's topic in General
It's not really that different from the many other articles about Detroit scouting, but recognition is always nice. That end of the article about if Z and Pavel didn't pan out like they did, if they didn't turn out to be unexpected steals, does give you a second's pause. I can't imagine the Wings without either Zetter or Dats. -
Andy and Penner are losses, Bryz isn't. Giguere may get flak for his pads but he's #1 for a reason. If the Ducks have Selanne, they're nearly back in top form. And remember... they slipped by us, but they dominated the Senators. We slipped by the Sharks ourselves on the virtue of a Robert Lang goal, hell.
