Makes sense. They are underachieving. Only have 1 more point than the Wings despite having a lot more talent.

11/26 GDT: Montreal Canadiens at Red Wings, 7:00 EST
GoalieManPat replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in 2016-17
Does anyone actually believe that having an enforcer would do prevent the opposition from hitting the Wings? Sure its a nice thing to say but in the current NHL players dont care who is on the other teams roster. If your job is to hit everything that moves then they are going to do just that. The game is completely different than it was 20+ years ago. A player is more afraid of his coach sending him down for not hitting a guy than the repercussions from the other team. You could plop coked out Probert on the roster and the wings will still get run. -
Honestly what can the league do about it? They cant penalized the Wings for something that might hypothetically happen. All that needs to happen is after the protected lists are announced have a "friend of a friend" report to a Swedish newspaper that Hank is deeply offended by not being protected and would rather retire than start at a new organization. The league cant do anything to the Wings over a rumor. You know that news will get to Vegas and if they still want to risk wasting a pick that is their option. My opinion is that rumor would be strong enough to make them pass on a guy with a bad back who has maybe 2 years left in him.
-
Trade him for whatever we can get. This team needs assets for the future.
-
Guy is really good player. Its a shame so much young talent goes ignored out here. Surprisingly after the draft I only had one person come up to me and say "So I hear we got a Red Wing. You guys better watch out!"
-
Ya I think your sarcasm radar needs a little tuning my friend
-
I understand its not a guarantee but you put yourself in the best position to get a high pick by tanking. Plus finishing that bad will give the bonus prize of Blash certainly being fired.
-
That was more skillful of a play than any wings goal so far this season.
-
Screw 7th. If you are not going to make the playoffs you are better up just sucking it up and getting a top 3.
-
Yup this right here. Hes from New York but it might as well be Canada since Ogdensburg is a border town. He grew up closer to Ottawa, Montreal, and Toronto than he did NYC. In fact Im pretty sure from where to he grew up to Detroit is only an hour longer than it takes to get to NYC from there.
-
Since when can he pass. The 17 assists he averages a year just scream play-maker. Helm can skate and check and thats about it and his skating is starting to decline. Putting Helm on a line with Benn and Seguin is like having steak and potatoes but with a side of corn pudding. You just dont mix that nasty thing with those other two great dishes.
-
The teams offense is not good enough to score 4 or 5 a night.
-
True it was only 1-0 but its not so much of how many you lose by but how you lose. Detroit never looked in the game at all. Washington was down 3 forwards early and playing poorly themselves tonight and should have been ripe for the picking but I can remember maybe 1 or 2 good scoring chances for the Wings. Their is no urgency on this team. When you have talent you can play the calm and cool game knowing eventually it will pay off. Detroit is not a talented team so they need to outwork the opposition and thats just not happening. A perfect example is the PP in the 2nd where a Washington players stick broke. Detroit passed the puck around for 45 seconds between the same three guys on the outside and all they got was a shot from Sproul along the boards. No movement to try and open up space. No quick passes to get Washington out of position. No players attacking the net with the puck. Just nonchalant passing it back and forth in places that arent dangerous. You know its a bad game when you come here after and see a 3 page GDT

If Detroit had guys like that Helm should not be allowed anywhere near their line.

Yes Mrazek did come and take the job away. The thing is once you take a spot you have to put a stranglehold on it so it cannot be taken back. That is the step Mrazek has failed to deliver on. Twice hes been for the most part given the team but hasnt played consistent enough to make the spot his permanently. I know you wish Howard were gone last year but you should take the fact that he wasn't as a blessing in disguise. This teams going to be bad this year and the next. More than likely the year after that too. Mrazek getting 40-50 games instead of 60-70 this year isnt more important than Howard getting 30+ with solid play. You get 30+ games of Howard playing as he has so far this season then hes going to have quite a bit of value come deadline day. Howard showing well with a good workload this year helps the organization more than Mrazek playing 20 more games behind a crap team. He gets to look forward to playing behind crap teams the next two years so why rush it unless you absolutely have to.

My opinion of him has nothing to do with 2009. The difference between the two in my opinion was Crosby was a whiney little diving prick his first couple years and that whole time the NHL was shoving him down every hockey fans face. You don't see that with McJesus. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

The NHL needs McJesus to take over the face of the league. People are tired of Crosby and he's one wrong hit to the head away from LTIR rerirement. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

Tyler Bertuzzi recalled... Vanek to LTIR

I agree that scoring is different between the two leagues. The thing is you never know if he can score at the NHL level until he actually gets a shot to. -

That's nice but this team has enough guys that qualify as two way guys that can't score. This team needs a true offensive body. You don't have to be a two way player if you score enough. I don't dislike the Bert callup. I love the kids game and am glad he's up. He just doesn't have a top 6 game and that's what the team needs with Vanek out. Bert will never be miles ahead of Mantha as you say though. Bert can be a 30 pt guy where Mantha can be 30 goal guy. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk -

I love Berts game but why is he playing with Nielsen and Larkin? That line screams for Mantha. -
Not poking bears with sticks and not fighting guys with the last name of Domi. These are smart life decisions. It is very pleasurable to see someone smack s***bag Kesler around.
-
Another uninspiring effort from a dull team.

Lets be honest. Chych had 0% chance of ever making the roster with Holland running the show. Its a mans league remember. -

We can blame the defense because well they are complete s*** but our forwards have been just as s***. When your best forward is reclamation project Tomas Vanek thats a problem. Abdelkader gets a long term contract and now is on pace for a grand 24 points. Larkin is still in his 2nd half slump from last year. Nielsen is in no way earning that contract right now. Sure faceoffs and defensive play is nice but he was brought in to produce as well and hes not doing it. Has a team worst -8. Tatar is playing himself into have no trade value. Sheahan supposedly does good stuff other than scoring according to Blash but I still fail to see anything that he can do exceptionally well. Hank is a push so far. Hes been pretty good the last 5 games but was horrible the games before. I attribute that to mostly having no preseason. To put it simply sure defense is the teams biggest glaring need but they are more than just a dman or two away from a playoff push. If only they had a big bodied guy in the minors scoring goals....
