Good teams draw bad teams into penalties. Look at tonight. 5 of the 7 penalties were stick penalties because or D or forward got beat. Its interesting you say there should be a stat because if there was I can tell you who would be #1 for about 15 years straight from 95 to 2010. The Wings got the same timely PP chances when they were good. Not really. It was a textbook boarding call. Refs can overlook stick penalties when there is only 15 seconds left but when you hit a guy in the numbers along the boards after hes already released the puck its going to get called 100% of the time and rightly so. Abs is picking up right where he left off with stupid penalties.

There is a 0% chance that Holland makes a coaching move before the Wings are to far out of it to come back. Blash was Hollands pet project. Groomed to take over for Babs and lead the Wings back to the promised land. Remember Holland says less is more and Blash is certainly providing the less part.

Whoever made this decision had to be as high as a kite. Nielsen has been a disappointment compared to the contract he signed. Only 22 pts and -12. Mantha is the only healthy player on the roster who deserves to go. 19 pts in 25 games and a team best +11. Had Howard been healthy he would be going though.

Orr revolutionized the game. I love Lids but he comes in 2nd compared to Orr and thats nothing to be ashamed about. You can say that Orr never would have put up the same numbers in todays NHL but the same could be said about Gretzky and Howe. That doesn't make them any less great.

Dont worry. This team is going to be bad for quite a few more years so chances of a good draft class are good.

The wings are tanking. Not on purpose though. They just are really bad.

The Wings play 13 games from the 4th to the 31st with two cross country trips but sure lets complain about not overworking a struggling goalie at the start of the busiest month of the year.

The puck wasnt going in. It would have slid by the post out the side. It was the goalies leg who knocked it it while Smith was making contact with him. It was an easy no call by the rules which is why the replay took 30 seconds. Had Smith shot hit the post and went straight in it would have been a good goal but once it hit the ice in front of the line thats when the contact becomes important again.

To be fair he never said he was going to stop watching. He just said he wasnt going to see a game live. As fans our only real ability to show the team we dont like whats going on is whether we buy a ticket or not. What he is saying is that the product on the ice, which in my opinion is the most important thing, doesn't entertain him enough for the cost of a game. Theres no debating that in addition to this team being not good they are not very entertaining at all to watch. If they were losing say 6-5 every night you could still say there was entertainment value but there is really nothing on this team now that is exciting. Now had he said he was going to stop watching the Wings all together and jump ship to another team then you could call him a bandwagon fan.

The novelty of going to LCA will wear off by December if this team is as bad next year as it is this year with no strong young player to get fans excited. You cant really compare it to Ford Field since you really only get 8 home games a season. Thats only 8 chances to see your football team a year. Even when your team is s*** the Lions will still sellout due to the low supply of games. Its not the same with the NHL where you have 5 times as many home games. Plus despite us calling Detroit Hockeytown the city is by far more of a football and baseball town comparatively. No doubt though the front office will push the "260+ consecutive sellouts" campaign despite seeing the arena only at 80% capacity.

I mentioned this in the Conflict in the Crease thread. To me it speaks volumes to why the coaching staff seems to have lost confidence in Mrazek. He seems to have developed a sense of entitlement and is now throwing a fit like a petulant child. The fact that even after being confronted by a teammate he refused is not good. Hopefully its just a young kid lacking maturity and acting out but really at 24 he should be handling things better.

You would have to package all four of those guys to get a 3rd let alone multiples. Erection and Glendening wouldnt likely get picked up on waivers let alone be traded for. Abs and Helm had ok trade value until they ordered a "Ken Holland Special" contract. Now teams would be dumb to take them on at their salaries. This team isnt going to be crushed by the next 8 games. They were crushed when Holland didnt follow through and retire with Lids.
