If you don't think so then name a player not named Hank or Pav who has figured more into the Wings getting points this year than Howard. Without his strong play the Wings wouldn't be taking one point away in these losses when the team doesn't show up. They would be taking 5-2 regulation losses.
-
Yet other than Hank and Pav he has been the besr Wing this year. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2

Unfortunately I'm seeing 4-2 Bolts. If this game was in Tampa Id pick the score the other way but there's just something about the Wings being at home that has made them extremely passive the past year. They are a much much better team on the road.

Ive heard multiple times that Stevie hasnt been on skates since he retired. The guy did enough for this organization let him enjoy his new life off the ice. If he could skate Id imagine he would be playing depending on what his GM duties might be at that time. Like it or not anything to do with Tampa is Steve's #1 priority now over anything involving the Wings and that's the way it should be.

Are we faking injuries/illnesses to deal with the roster crunch?
GoalieManPat replied to matthewdanna's topic in General
I disagree. I think Franzen is the anchor to his teammates now. That includes Cleary. Cleary is terrible but at-least hes out there busting his butt every shift. -
GDT 11/7 GDT: Stars 4 at Red Wings 3 (OT)
GoalieManPat replied to wingedominance13's topic in General
Anyone know if Tatar got a shift in ot. I cant remember off the top of my head but I dont believe he did. If not thats a huge mistake by Babcock. Hes the type of player that can beat a man and create that winning goal. Youve already got your point so go hard for the second. Instead he keeps sending Bert out for example whom in my opinion in 4v4 is a liability. -

Since Franzen said he thought he was playing well this year Id put very little stock in anything he says. -
I think McCollums true defining years of whether he can salvage any chance at job in the NHL, even if its just a backup, is this year and next year. Last year probably saved any type of pro career. This year hes off to a 6-0 start and has a GAA at 2.25 and a save % at .922. Both of those numbers are well above Mrazek right now. If he continues putting up numbers like that he can fall into the "late bloomer" category and hopefully the Wings will get some value for using a pick on him in either him making the Wings or progressing enough that he can be traded for assets.
-
My guess is Coraeu is only up to backup Howard and have for practices. If Babcock didn't intend to have Mrazek start the next couple games its better to send him back down and get starting minutes for this weekends Griffins games instead of riding the pine in Detroit. I'm going to disagree with the post above. I don't see Coreau in any way as a "real deal" as you put it. No way int he same class as Mrazek. Coreau was brought in for nothing but organizational depth. Hes been in only one game for the Griffs and wasnt that strong. Not bad but not strong. McCollum has been the standout in GR the start of this year. Maybe thats who you were thinking of?

Chicago fans steal players helmet off head and dump beer on him
GoalieManPat replied to Son of a Wing's topic in General
Honest drunken stupidity on the part of the helmet steal. Nothing malicious. The beer dump is low class but expected in Chicago. Honestly I bet that guy is waking up loving his 15 minutes of fame. Made me laugh at the end of a long double shift. -
Totally unintentional. Unfortunate.
-
He should buy him out. It wont happen though because that would mean Holland would have to admit it was a mistake to sign him to that contract over Hossa. You cant even get Holland to admit his signing of Sammy was a major mistake so theres no chance he would do so with a long time contract with Franzen.

I find it hard to believe the biggest ******* fanbase in pro sports gets embarrassed. The biggest **** move was done by Schenn. Not only does he fight with his visor still on but just before the fight he flicks off Urbom helmet and then starts wailing on him before Urbom gets a chance to do the same.

Im going to disagree here. I think this is the worse Franzen has looked in quite a while. Hes shown up for basically the Colorado game. The rest he has been completely invisible. A guy his size should be able to impact the game without a center force feeding him the puck. Whether its taking it to the net himself or using his body to create for others. I honestly dont think Franzen cares about anything but picking up his paycheck anymore. His comments before about the regular season boring him and then his defense for not scoring last year being "Well Im not supposed to be a goal scorer anyways" just makes me believe it even more. Remember he came into the league as a strong workhorse player. Nothing in his game now resembles that. And to think the Wings could have had Hossa.

Anyone got odds on the possibility of tomorrows headline being "Helm back to IR with injured lady parts"? Im saying 50/50

The most annoying things about being at games?
GoalieManPat replied to Red Wings Addict's topic in General
I would have been surprised to see someone post about the "elitism" of some season tickets holder before this season up until I basically had the same experience. After years of going to maybe 1 or 2 games a year me and the wife decided we were fine enough financially to pull the trigger on a half season package for two seats. Well on the way down to the home opener we realized the tickets were left at home. No problem I say we can just stop at my parents house and print out new ones since we get this handy dandy online setup for being season ticket holders. So we do and print out new tickets instead of driving back an hour out of the way. So were at the game and at one point my wife mentions when we get full season tickets we should see about getting those seats and points to a section. Our goal is in the next couple years to move up to full season. Well the lady in front of us overhears and starts a conversation with my wife. She must have misheard at first as when my wife mentioned we are working on getting full season tickets at some point the lady was like "Oh well your not a real season ticket holder then. If you do become a real one you cant be bringing those printout tickets as it makes everyone think you bought it on ebay" and points to the printouts hanging out of my pocket. We both were completely shocked. Then the wife completely zinged her by turning to me and saying "Well I know which section we will be avoiding" All stadiums are going to have drunkards and people who aren't there with the same passion for the game as most of us. Its also true that its almost just as good sitting at home watching on my couch, on my big tv, with my buddies Ken and Mick....almost. There is still something about being at the game live that is a little better than a big tv at home. Maybe it was an octo that he decided it was to much energy to run down and toss over? -

Ill believe that if he makes it through warm-ups without tweaking the lady parts he has acquired the last 18 months. -
Fixed that for ya. Drafting good is fine. But if when said prospect is ready for the NHL you have to hope your coach and GM will give them there shot instead of re-signing old washed up players to take there spot on the roster. Perfect example is Nyquist and Tatar right now. Right now I have no confidence Babs or Holland will play the young hungry kids when they are ready. Instead we will get more Cleary and Samuelssons.
-
I see it as a positive. Sure its only two moves but his approach and movement is the same so the goaltender really has no idea what hes going to do.
-
First off big congrats to Ericsson. Hopefully the boys can pull out a win for his newborn. The Sharks are flying right now though. If the Wings win I think it will be a high scoring OT or shootout win. Weiss will look better tonight and get atleast two points. Hank/Pav continue to roll with a goal and couple assists between them.
-
Depends on his mindset at this point in his career. If hes just looking for a paycheck then hey he might be happy just collecting without the risk of physical pain. When I watch him play I don't see the desire he used to have. As for Helm I am glad hes getting back on the team but I will reserve doing a happy dance until he shows he can play more than 5 games.
-
I hate the Sammy in just to play the point on the PP. He brings nothing to it other than the ability to destroy shinpads. I would take any of the regular 6 dman on the point instead of Sammy. It also kills the 4th line which other than the top line has been Detroit's best the last 4 games. Lotsa games in a short time for the Wings + Sammy change I wouldnt be surprised to see the team regress and the Coyotes take this one 2-1.

GDT 10/4 GDT : Red Wings 3 at Hurricanes 2 (OT)
GoalieManPat replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
I think most are ok with the type of player there. A hardnose player that chases down pucks and gets in front of the net. The problem is Abby doesnt have the offensive side of the game you want a player to have to thrive with Hank and Pav. Sure he will score the odd goal but if you put a true power forward up there its an easy 40 goal player with those two.
