Anyone remember the last time it took this long for a goalie to go off the board.
-
Its the TSN feed. What do you expect. They are going to focus on the Canadian teams. Everyone should know this already.

Only two spots back and you pick up another 2nd rounder. Gotta count that as a win.

Why is Mark coming back?

I agree that risks need to be taken but not with Bickel. If a guy can put up 30 goals and 70 points then yes you take a risk with big money. This is not the guy you take that risk on for the money some team is gonna throw at him.

Lol because when you hear "willing to sign for less" the first name that comes to mind is Jagr.

Do not want. Hes going to be Marty Lapointe v2.0. Except Marty was a better scorer.

17yr old hockey player charged for on-ice assault.
GoalieManPat replied to Son of a Wing's topic in General
I agree pressing charges for a hockey fight is a slippery sloap. But this wasnt a hockey fight. A hockey fight is two guys willingly squaring off and going at it and stopping if one is defenseless. This was one kid grabbing another kid off the ice who had no intention of fighting and just laying into him with sucker punches like a punk. The kid goes down and the punk continues to lay punches into him. That is not a fight. Its one kid throwing a hissy fit and assaulting another. So what that the kid sprayed the goalie. The goalie isnt going to die. It barely effects a goalie. Laying into a kid when hes not looking and while hes on the ice can cause serious harm though. There is to much of this junk in youth hockey. Its going to take a couple punks getting charged to stop it. I dont like the idea of it but if it cleans up youth hockey then Im all for it. Sucker punching someone and then continuing while they are down and defenseless is the definition of cowardly. -
Which helps his case even more since hes been playing behind the worste defenses the Wings have had since the early 90's and still putting up top 10 numbers.

Until hockey is 95% the same two positions passing the puck back and forth it wont be baseball. I do agree though that 82 games is a bit much for hockey. But its all about the benjamins. More games = more $$$. I dont mind the number of baseball games since its on par with curling in terms of being physically strenuous. 64-70 is where I think the sweet spot should be for hockey. What would help this is contracting the league of teams where hockey is not supported.

Ilitch reveals plan for new $450m, 18,000-seat Red Wings arena

I love the Joe but its time. When I go with my pops we have to leave before the game ends so we don't get caught in the mosh pit to get out. He doesnt walk well enough anymore to handle that. -
Calder Cup Finals Game 4 GDT - Syracuse Crunch @ Grand Rapids Griffins
GoalieManPat replied to FlashyG's topic in General
Ehh Gus seems to get a decent amount of stick penalties so I can see him doing this -
I woildnt mind him for about half of what hes getting paid. Thing is some team will offer him way more han hes worth. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2

If they feel he might leave as an FA then they have much they can improve by moving him. A true #1 and #2 dman will do more for the Pena than Malkin. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2

No thanks to Stalberg.

Let's Talk About Abdelkader, Plus Others

Still doesnt help the Wings biggest glaring weakness which is the ability to score goals. This right there. If Abby had any semblance of a solid NHL offensive game he would be perfect up there. Unfortunately that is not Abby. -

I like Abys game but he is not a top 6 player. They guy plays well but the 3rd line is where he belongs. He doesnt have the offensive skills for top 6. Hes a 3rd line energy guy. Forcing him into a role thats not that lessens his effectiveness. Him and a healthy Helm are already 2/3's of an amazing shutdown line. -
Standing pat and going with youth development only works if you move the old ineffective players out so the kids can get the experience they need. IE Sammy and Bert at minimum.

Franzens last couple seasons were summed up perfectly in one shift last night. It was in the 3rd when the Wings were pressing. Hank was in the corner working hard trying to shake a defender for a good 10-15 seconds. Franzen parks his ass at the faceoff circle and just stares at Hank. Doesnt try to improve his shooting angle, get open, or support Hank in any way. Just stares at him while Hank is working away the whole time. When Hank finally shakes the guy and is able to get the puck to Franzen shoots a weak shot into Crawford chest. I dont care how "managable" the guys cap number is. A manageable cap number means nothing when you don't produce when it matters. Franzen has been a no show in the playoffs for three straights years now. You cant claim he "turns it on in the playoffs" anymore because he just doesnt. Thats not even mentioning the multiple times Franzen has gone 15 to 20 games without a goal. Thats fine if your in the bottom 6. Not if your getting top 6 and PP time. Add in that he brings absolutely nothing to the team when hes not scoring and that manageable cap number looks worse every day.

While its true the Wings did play above there talent level. Dropping a series you lead 3-1 including a game you held the lead in going into the 3rd at home is a choke job. Your expectations of what a team should do is fluid through a series. You can be a favorite but if you go down 3-0 you expect to lose. Same the other way a around. If your an underdog and you go up 3-1 you expect to advance. Anything else is a choke job.

On pace for a 45-50 point rookie season in a full season and then 3rd on the team in playoff scoring. Ya he better be back. Its true he tailed off the 2nd half of the season but you can expect that from a rookie playing the north american game for the first time. If Holland doesnt sign him its a major fail on his part.

Ive never questioned Dan Cleary's heart or toughness. I do question his declining hockey skills though. You can have all the heart in the world but if your hockey skills arent up to NHL levels then you dont belong in there. He shouldnt be re-signed. If he is then it should be as an extra forward or 4th line at best. The problem with signing him as a 4th liner is Babcock wont be able to resist moving him to top 6 and he just simply doesnt belong up there anymore.

gdt WCSF Game 7 GDT: Red Wings 1 at Blackhawks 2 OT (CHI wins series, 4-3)

Howie had no shot after the deflection. Nothing he could do. Kronner could have played that 100% better though. He backed up as if Kane was coming at him. It was Seabrook. Get up on him and prevent him from getting a shot off. Hes not going to beat you 1v1. -

Plenty more than a bad bounce. Lets not forget that he was part of the awfull line change that led to the first goal. Chicago never gets that shot off in overtime if he actually goes out to challenge a DEFENSEMAN carrying the puck. Instead he backs off allowing the line to be gained and an uncontested shot from the slot while creating a screen and chance for a deflection. Being praised by the muppets on NBC pretty much proves how poor he was playing. -
