This team is more than just a defender short. -

Im sure glad we needed Quincey more than we needed a first round pick. -

It was a dive. But it was just as much interference. The only people that showed up for the game so far at Dats, Zetts, and Howard. Between the first period and the red/white game the only time Franzen has been mentioned is when he was switching teams for the PP in the scrimmage. -

The owners and league don't give a crap about the fans time and emotions. They only care about money. So not giving it to them is not a cop out. Oh and 3-2 wings tonight in a SO -
I dont know about Weber. The guy is huge and his shot is devastating but I feel having Suter with him allowed him to look a lot better than he really is. Im not saying hes a scrub but by himself I dont see a Norris worthy defender. Im thinking this could be his worst season in a while. Just my opinion though. Im just as likely to be completely wrong.

Theres a difference between elite and good #1 defenders. You can be a good #1 and not be elite. There are only going to be 4-5 "elite" defenders playing in the league. Does than mean that 25 other teams dont have legitimate #1 defenders?

I have a feeling that Nyquist will spend more time in Detroit than Grand Rapids the rest of the season. If come the 3rd week of the season the Wings dont have 2-3 guys out already I will be 100% surprised. Its something I expect to see from most every team. The teams that have stronger AHL callups will have a big advantage this year.

Jeremy Roenick's book and the introduction is AMAZING

Its got 4/5 stars on Amazon so it seems to be worth a look. -
I agree that Kronwall is a #1 dman. Hes just not the quality of #1 dman we have been spoiled with for 20 years. The problem is the wings dont have a dominate #2.

Gotta be Yashin. The Islanders still gotta pay him for the next 2 and a half years and he hasn't been on the team in almost 6 years.

Central: 1. St Louis 2. Detroit 3. Chicago 4. Nashville 5. Columbus Any of the 1-4 can switch spots. To be more specific on my prediction is that those 1 and 4 will finish just 5 pts between each other. I agree with pretty all you said there except for the Norris. Weber brings size and a sexy shot but in my opinion Suter was the better all around player. Weber could do a lot because he had Suter supporting him. I see Weber having the worst season of his career this year.

Im sorry but I just had to laugh at Bertuzzi being on a "legit fighting line"

Have you ever sat in the worst seats at the Joe? If these 9 dollar seats are the 3 rows of cubby seats in the top corners that are all at the same level so you cant see past the first row then they arent worth 9 bucks. No child can see if they aren't in the first row and even a normal sized person is in front of them.

Love NHL network during the season and even more in the playoffs. Problem is other then the game recap shows there isnt any Original programming. If it could get to something like Fox Soccer or GoalTV where they do live games/recaps and also a bunch of original programming it would be one of my favorite channels.

Needs to prove he can play at the NHL level before getting a name.
-
If he can still play bring him in on a 1 year contract. This season is a sprint to the end and with so many games in such a short timeframe there is no "if a team can stay healthy". Every team is gonna have an injury problem so grab as much depth as possible. There is nothing wrong with giving him a tryout and if he can play theres nothing wrong with a 1 year contract.

Where in my post does it say that I dont care about the team? Your making an assumption that I dont. When in reality I do care about the team. Which is why the fans need to send a clear message to the owners that they are tired of them destroying our game. This league lost an entire season of the game we love. They stole a year of it from us. What happened then? The fans flocked back right away. There were no consequences for the owners and players. They steal another half season from us this year. Not more than 8 years later and after the most prosperous season in history. I guarantee you that had the fans not flocked back after the last lockout there would have been a lot more urgency to get a deal done. It wouldnt have taken until right before the season for them to start talking. Most owners care only about the bottom line right now. Thats the only way to get at them. Every time you buy a ticket, merchandise, or concessions you are investing in the NHL. They then turned around and spit in your face. The best thing the fans can do to help prevent another lockout in a couple years is don't go to games for a while. Not forever. Not even for a half season. Avoid the games for a month, 10 games, even one game. All is lost revenue to the owners. I never said Ill never go to a game again but I will. But not until the league shows me they are worth my investment.

Why reward the NHL by giving them your hard earned money right away? Half full arenas are the only way to make them understand the fans wont tolerate another lockout in 8 years.

Petr Mrazek making some noise with his start in GRR
GoalieManPat replied to evilzyme's topic in General
No. I still dont think Howard is at the best he can be and Mrazek currently is well behind him. Mrazek's start is very very encouraging but lets see how he holds up over a whole season. That will show if hes progressing or if this is jsut one of the hot streaks any goalie can get on. Ill give him though that Mrazek is better now than Howard was at that age. Barring any development setback's I wouldn't be surprised to see him pushing Howard in 3-4 seasons. -
This is just my humble opinion but I wouldn't be surprised if Illitch is against this lockout. From how frail the guy looked during the Tigers celebration Id be surprised if he really is in on the lockout much. More than likely he has advisors in there for the day to day and he is only around for important votes. Plus the guy unfortunately cant have to many years left in him. A lost season really cuts into the chances of another Cup in his lifetime. And with his spendings on the Tigers I dont see him "bleeding money" as other owners are.

Howard started the All Star game and was a Vezina candidate until the injury bug got him yet hes the biggest difference between the two teams? After 20 years of blaming goalies you would think the fan base would smarten up and not always blame the goalie but alas most are still stupid. The biggest difference is the likes of Bertuzzi and Cleary having to pull a top 6 point production and a 4th line that is completely useless. Of course it couldn't have been one most prone defenses we've seen to lapses in many years. Sure it must be the goalie. You switch Rinne for Howard and I would put money down Nashville still takes the series. Rinne only had to stop shots from the outside and could kick juicy rebounds all series as the Wings never went to the net hard. Howard had guys in his face all series long. Look how Nashville fared when they had to play a team that drove the net. Rinne was exposed. But of course goal-tending is the biggest difference. The OP fails.

Sounds like a "charity job" like they seem to be giving out upon retirement recently. I love Lids as much as anyone but really how much scouting is he really going to do. He was smart on the ice but does he have an eye for young talent? I would much rather have seem him in some sort of coaching role.

So your thinking NBC will force the NHL to give a competitive edge to big markets just for ratings. If this happens I lose all faith in the NHL. Might as well determine the champs in September. Turn the NHL into wrestling, a sports soap opera, instead of competition. The big markets read have an advantage in that they are a big market and bring in more money than small markets.

It could have nothing to do with being outbid. It could be that Holland thinks for the cap hit Nash is better than what Parise would cost.

Babcock has already said Brunner will get top 6 minutes to start. He will be on the 2nd line with Flip and Z.
