I miss Fisch, a hell of a thing to happen to such a good guy. Its refreshing to know that he is able to help shape the future of our Wings. Again my hat goes off to this organization. You give your blood, sweat, and tears and Mr and Mrs I will never forget it.

I’m stoked that Hossa is a Wing. Adding a player with his dynamic solidifies our second line as well as the 2nd PP unit. We’re no longer considered a 1 line team, even with the emergence of Franzen at the end of the 07-08 season. I don’t think anyone in the Wings front office is expecting him to come in and score 120 points, they want him to play within the system, one that sets us apart from the rest of the league. We just went from winning our 11th cup to adding the most sought after FA not named Sundin, yet people still find a need to pick apart every last detail of this team. My only request is that he puts more stock into the crest on the front of the sweater than the name on the back.

Kenny made an offer and he didn't respond. How can anyone sit here and say this deal sucks? We got the best free agent forward available, period, hands down, end of story. We are going to be icing arguably the best top 6 and for sure top 4 D in the NHL in 08-09. All of this coming 1 month after the best team in hockey captured the greatest prize.

It’s a wash. Lids and Stevie played different positions and were joined together for quite a few impressive years. Steve Yzerman gave his blood, sweat, tears, heart, and soul to the city of Detroit and the Red Wings. He carried us from the depths of the league standings to the cream of the crop, all while never taking a damn bit of credit for himself. The man played through more pain than I could ever wish on my worst enemy. I will forever link my love of the Wings to him, and will never forget what he did for us night in and night out. Lids, well, he’s the perfect hockey player. He plays the game the way everyone else wishes they could. He will end it all as one of the greatest D men and will constantly be compared to Bobby Orr. Lids became the first European captain to win the Cup, shedding label after label because of where he was born. He makes everyone around him better because his work ethic mirrors #19. The last 20 plus years of been nothing short of amazing and we shouldn’t cheapen that by drawing a line in the sand and having to make a choice as to who we place higher on the pedestal. We’ve witnessed The Captain and Mr. Norris, and have seen what they’ve brought to the table. In twenty years they will still be remembered as instrumental pieces to the overall puzzle of the Detroit Red Wings, and for that I salute them.

I suffered a concussion my junior year of high school in a football game. I didn’t tell the coaches and played the rest of the game. After not sleeping for 80+ hours and puking every time I saw the light of day I went to the doctor. Doc said had I not sought medical treatment I could have put myself in a position to reinjure myself and ultimately suffer from brain damage. To this day (11 years later) I suffer from extreme migraines, all thanks to stubbornness. Concussions are a mofo and I for one am GLAD he is not playing until he has been cleared by doctors.

John Mason is the current PA, I can't remember who it was before him but Mase does a hell of a job. Edit from wiki Mason was offered an intriguing contract from the Cleveland Cavaliers, his former hometown. He declined the offer, saying that the Pistons gave him so many opportunities, and it was his new home. The Pistons have also given Mason the opportunity to serve as a PA announcer for an NBA title contender.

I'll agree with you. As much as I admire and respect what Cheli has done for the NHL and the Wings I would not be mad if we didn't bring him back next year. However if we didn't bring the Pain Train back next year I have no problem with Cheli mentoring the young guys. It's a catch 22.
