If this is truly the end for Malts it’s a sad way to go. He took one for the team and for that we should be grateful but it’s much more than that. This signifies the end of an era. I’ll never forget the Grind Line and what they have done for this franchise on and off the ice. Malts, Drapes, and D Mac, a band of brothers that worked just as hard as the blue collar fans who’ve supported them over the years. Whether they were scoring cup clinching, drought ending goals, killing penalties without sticks and throwing their bodies in front of shots or mucking it up in the corners, these 3 guys defined the Red Wings just as much as the Captain, Norris Nick, and Scotty. Take a moment and think about it, they may have hung around a little longer than most but we the fans got to witness 4 championships because of it.

Don't Stop Believing, Sweet Caroline, and Rock & Roll All Night have all been staples of JLA for the last 12+ years. Although it would be nice to bring in something fresh the Joe singing Sweet Caroline and Rock & Roll during game 5 of the SCF last year was simply amazing. IIRC the TV guys brought that up saying something like the music stops when play resumes but don't tell that to the fans at the Joe cause they're not going to stop.

This current situation is a double edged sword. You want to ride Jimmy because his play warrants it but you can't go a month without getting Ozzie a quality start. Jimmy needs the break and Ozzie needs to show us that his playoff switch can be turned on a few months early. Regardless of who is in goal for the next month or two they need to stop pucks and give us a chance to win, right now those odds are resting on the shoulders of a rookie. I love Ozzie as much the next guy but Jimmy seems capable of actually stealing a game as his 51 save performance against the Kings showed us. We have to win at least 6 out of every 10 games, period. Whoever gives us that chance should get the call. Tonight might go a long way in showing who that goalie is going to be.

Darren Helm is exactly what this team needed in the postseason. Someone that will leave it on the line every shift and come back for more 3 minutes later. Dude's got drive like Stevie Y.
