Can anyone give me the reasoning behind putting the trapezoid on the ice? I personally hate the thing, it just seems like someone got tired of looking at the same old ice and felt like drawing some new lines on there. I can't stand it when we get scored on after the "delay of game" penalty because of that damn trap. The only thing it was good for this past season was getting to see Dom break his stick while staring down Mick McGeough.

We all know what it's like to hear people saying "The Wings will win the conference only because of their crappy division blah blah blah...". Well, I was thinking of a way to really be able to rank teams based on how good they really are, and I think I'm on to something. As far as I know, this has not been proposed before, but feel free to point me out if it has. The new standings would be calculated at the end of the season, and they would be called the "Points-beaten" standings. The way they work, is for each team beaten, you get their points added up to your score. For example: Say at the end of the season, Chicago has 90 points. If we beat Chicago 6 times, Detroit would have (90 x 6 = 540) points. This would be added up for each team we beat. This way, a win over a team thats better is worth more. I think this method of ranking teams would give people a better idea on where teams stand going into the post-season. It would be hard to rank the whole league, but if we worked together it would be a very interesting thing to know. What do you guys think? or , with explanations please

Ok I'll explain better. Lets use the first 5 games from last season. Game one was a loss vs the Canucks, so we get 0 points beaten because we lost. Game two was a win vs the Penguins. Because the penguins finished the season with 105 points, we get 105 points. Game 3 was a win vs the Coyotes. Since the Coyotes finished the season with 67 points, we get 67 points. Thus, this is where you can understand the concept. The win vs the penguins awarded us more points than the win vs the Coyotes, and rightfully so. Game 4 was an OTL vs the Sabres. Since 1 point is awarded to a team for an OTL, as opposed to 2 for a win (half), we would get half of the Sabres 113 points, or 56.5 points. Game 5 was a win vs the Kings, so as you should have caught on, we get 68 points, because thats how many the Kings had at the end of the season. Of course this can only be calculated at the end of the season, but you would continue to add them up for each team, and it would show who won more against better teams. BTW, the wings had 4996.5 points beaten last year.

Oops, sorry to mislead, I wasn't suggesting this as the official means of keeping standings, just one for us to get a different view.
-
ehh, would have to be discussed. Maybe half? Damn you OTL's!

Can someone please list all of the differences between replica and authentic? I definitely am considering the $130 jersey, but I don't want a shotty jersey. Does it still have a name and number on the back? BTW guys, I noticed the old jerseys are 15% of on shop.detroitredwings.com, most of them at least. It's probably related to the new jerseys coming.

He was the answer to one of my questions in the "In your opinion" thread yesterday. He played with Rafalski in NJ, and is a Flint, Michigan guy. This is one signing that stands out as truly realistic, unlike Heatly, which is not going to happen in a thousand years. Honestly I hope that kid gets a big juicy extension, just so that we don't have to read about it on this forum.

Why all the love for San Jose? They've lost Hannan and Guerin. They are by no means bad, but they will not move up. 1. Detroit (Easy Division, but we would be a top 3 team in any division, probably 2nd or 3rd though) 2. Anaheim 3. Colorado 4. Vancouver 5. San Jose 6. Dallas 7. Minnesota 8. St. Louis Note that St. Louis reclaims their rightful place as our historical ******* in the playoffs. (Well, at least we went through them on the way to each cup) ETA: Sorry forgot the east. 1. NYR 2. Ottawa 3. Carolina 4. Philadelphia 5. Pittsburgh 6. New Jersey 7. Toronto 8. Atlanta Round 1: Detroit over St. Louis, Anaheim over Minny, Colorado over Dallas, Vancouver over San Jose. Rangers over Atlanta, Toronto over Ottawa, New Jersey over Carolina, Philadelphia over Pittsburgh. Round 2: Detroit over Vancouver, Anaheim over Colorado Rangers over Toronto, Philadelphia over New Jersey Round 3: Detroit over Anaheim Rangers over Philadelphia You know the rest

In all honesty, he probably will shine more on a lesser team. I just couldn't help but laugh when I saw that quote.

What you guys have to ask yourselves is: What would be sweeter? Getting grit and toughness, having a great seaon and winning the cup, or playing "Euro" style hockey, everything that everyone has criticized us for in the recent past, and finally having it click, dominating every team we play (and winning the cup), while simultaneously making them and everyone who has ever talked smack about the wings look like fools. Although, I do agree, some level of grit equivalent to that of this years in the playoffs is necessary.

Anyone know what that quote said about Hasek? Sorry to double post, but I have to know.

Wait!!! What is this about hasek possibly being done!?!??!?!?

This has been a phenomenal year so far, and it has felt better than any season since '02. As we all know, and would rather not be reminded, the Wings are facing elimination tomorrow night in Anaheim. Yesterday was the most painful Wings' loss I can remember in a long time, and I'm still feeling pretty depressed about it. All I want is for the Wings to win game 6. I just want to be able to feel the feeling that I would feel with a game 7 just over the horizon. I would absolutely love to feel that excitement one more time. Work your hearts out tomorrow, and just give me that feeling one more time, then let the hockey God's take care of game 7. Whatever the outcome of a game 7 might prove to be, I would feel less cheated if the Wings were able to win tomorrow, and all I really ask for is to feel that feeling of excitement one more time. Who's with me? And I end this post with this....
-
My worst fear is the Wings playing their hearts out and being unable to beat a stellar Gigure, peppering him with shots down by a goal in the final minute of the game. Please Wings, don't let that happen.

LMFAO reminds me of this

Fluke goal for Anaheim or blue liner rom Lidstrom (possibly deflected).

Hey nice topic, I love the pictures, cant wait for ther game. I think today is going to be a blowout game, with us destroying the ducks by 3 goals or more. I'm not just saying this as a homer, but because it seems we have been doing real well in the afternoon home games. *knocks on wood* BTW, does anyone know where aflacs links are to the video files on rapid share? I have been saving them all and I don't want to miss out on any.

No, they suffered the curse of probability. 1/16 chance.

99.9% sure it will be Emrick, we've had him all playoffs. I don't mind him, but I still miss Thorne. -

Hey guys, anyone know who was calling the NBC/Versus feed today? I'm hoping it wasn't Emrick because I'd like to have him for our game tomorrow. ETA: I thought this was a night game today, I saw that it was in overtime and I was pretty ticked.
