Jurco is on pace for about 4 goals this season, isn't he? I don't think he's really blown anyone's expectations out of the water this year. I wouldn't shed a tear if he sat for a bit in favor of Pulkkinen.

Holy crap - Ken and Ozzie seemed completely incapable of not talking about Ryan Miller tonight. I understand that it is a relevant story line and he was playing well, but can we keep the 'opposing goaltender is so freaking awesome I just pissed myself at his awesomeness' conversation to, I don't know, less than half the game? I might as well have listened to the Vancouver broadcast as much as I wanted the announcers to shut the hell up tonight.

Deserved loss. Islanders beat the Wings in all facets. Interesting to note, though, that the 2 Islander goals could have been easily avoided if Ericsson does his job and keeps Nelson from getting to that puck and Sheahan figures out how to do anything besides hand the puck to an opposing player wide open 5 feet front of the goal. Babcock has got to find a way to wake up this offense. They're lucky to have 3 points out of the last five games as anemic as the offense has been. I wish Nyquist had slammed his stick into Hamonic's knee after he got up from being cross checked at the end.

Mmmm... pretty sure that was interference on Getzlaf, not Fasth. I can't stand it when a player commits a penalty and it is so obvious that they knew exactly what they were doing.... and then they whine about the call on the way to the box like a child. Getzlaf is a doosh.

Maybe he's letting the puck in when he moves. Perhaps he should just stay completely still and some pucks will happen to hit him.

I might care about this.... if the outdoor game deal hadn't already been completely watered down and ruined with the flood of other outdoor games besides the Winter Classic.

Yeah they suck in the shootout. But, that's just a distraction from the main issue tonight, which was failing to put more than one puck in the net.... at home... against a backup goaltender... and a team that played the night before. Score some freaking goals in regulation and you won't have to deal with your sucky shootout abilities.

I got really tired of Mick saying things like "this type of game just happens sometimes in an 82 game season" Some players need to sit in the press box for the next game as a result of this one - an unacceptable effort. I sort of wish we could just not ever play the bottom teams in the league. It definitely seems to me like the worst teams bring their 'A' game to Detroit and, in turn, Detroit tries to take a night off.

Zetterberg and Howard didn't play the whole series last season due to health issues. I wouldn't consider a team missing its captain (one of the team's regular top point producers) and the starting goaltender to be "healthy," myself.

$4.9 million this year and the next three after that isn't going to just vanish. They aren't just going to throw their hands in the air and give up on him. Yes, it has been a ridiculously terrible signing thus far, but they pretty much have to try to get whatever production they can out of that significant sunk cost.

That's fine if you think of your family as the equivalent of dogs, but not everyone sees theirs that way. Not your decision or your place to judge.

It's always nice and fitting to follow the best performance of the year with the worst. No useful takeaways from the game for Detroit... other than everyone don't ever play like that again. When scoring 3 or more goals: 6 - 0 - 2 When scoring less than 3 goals: 2 - 4 - 3

Wings need to wake the hell up against these bottom-third teams. And stop scoring two goals or less in a game. Score more than two goals.

I'll give Nestrasil the props I can give him.... He's not slow. He's not small. He doesn't make really stupid mistakes. .. but it doesn't look, at this point, like he brings ANYTHING else to the table. So, I guess I'd rather have him in than a slower/smaller guy that also does nothing or a guy that makes really stupid mistakes. But, play him instead of a guy that has scored .77 points per game over the last 6+ seasons? Hell no. Franzen definitely disappears at times, but he reappears. Nestrasil hasn't even really ever appeared for the first time, let alone reappeared from his current state of invisibility.

Dastyuk was out of the lineup when Franzen was in it. So, since the team was cruising along no worse then than what it is now with Datsyuk in the lineup... is Pavel not a difference maker either? Or is that not actually the tell-tale right there?

So then, what would qualify as 'usual?'
