Confused on the direction of this team going forward
barabbas16 replied to RainingBlood's topic in General
You didn't argue against Zetterberg and Dastyuk being elite, though... just Kronwall. So, does that mean that you believe that they are the top 2 or 3 at that position? -
Obviously...

Sure, no one can prove anything and it is technically speculation. But, it seems pretty obvious and certainly a lot more likely than what you were suggesting.
-
No, I don't think it could have convinced him otherwise. Why? Because I think he could have gotten 3 years at 4.5 or 5 million from a large number of teams. He clearly wanted to sign with Pittsburgh, in my opinion, so that's what he did.

Haha! Back to the Future is still an awesome movie. And, I think that joke is just about as old. I don't usually try to predict the future and try to pass it off as fact like it has already happened. But, I agree that they probably won't end up with Iginla, Stastny, or Vanek. I don't think 'nobody' will happen either, though. I think they'll make a good run at Ehrhoff and/or Niskanen... and I think either one of those guys makes more sense to sign than Iginla/Stastny/Vanek. Nothing's written in stone, though, and you never know what could happen.

Unless you're getting out of your DeLorean with Doc Brown to type on LGW, I'd say you're putting the cart before the horse and it'd probably be best to wait and see what happens before you freak out.

He scored 10+ goals one time in 10 NHL seasons. He scored 11 goals.... six seasons ago in 2007-08. His career average would be about 7.5 goals per full season. Maybe Detroit should sign Jonathan Cheechoo - he could score 50+ goals.

Well, this series has succeeded in at least one thing for me. It has developed in me a new hatred for the Bruins, a team that I was previously somewhat indifferent towards. Especially Lucic and Chara. I would not mind at all if bad things happened to them endlessly. -

And, they are just as entitled to their opinions as you or I. As I was saying, if it saddens you, go get a tissue. They come on here and whine about the refs. You come on here and whine about them. It's not that much different to me. -

Go cry about it then. Maybe other people see things differently than you do. Oh, that's right, what you think is always right and if anyone else thinks something else, they are wrong. -
GDT ECQF - Game 4 - Bruins 3 at Red Wings 2 (F/OT)

Well, it was a lot better showing than Game 3. That's just a better team. Would have been nice to have seen how the game would have gone if Chara hadn't gotten that call with his giant dive, though. Also would have been nice if another goal had not been scored by Douchic, who is moving up and up on my least favorite players list. Also would be nice to not have to put up with playing one of the worst D pairings in the league seemingly over and over again - it somehow seems to me like they are never off the ice. -
I figure this is a result of how skittish the team was as a whole for Game 3. Put another veteran that's been through it all before into the lineup... take out a kid that hasn't been through it before. It's an effort to calm things down and get mind right to play the right way, imo. I don't think it is a coincidence that he'll be playing on a line with Sheahan and Tatar either. I don't think it is necessarily a knock on Jurco. He's just the most logical young guy to take out in place of Bertuzzi. It goes along the same lines as bringing Zetterberg back sooner rather than later to play 10 - 12 minutes and sitting another young guy. The team flipped out and crumbled last game. Changes were warranted.... and the changes shouldn't (in my opinion) be 'play even more rookies,' as has been suggested several times. Just so no one tries to take my message this direction.... No, I don't like Bertuzzi more than Jurco and I don't think he's a better player at this point in their careers. No, I don't think Bertuzzi should be re-signed. Yes, I think he should retire. That said, this change makes sense to me.

GDT ADQF | Game 3 | Boston 3 @ Detroit 0, BOS leads series 2-1

Please. The bottom line? The bottom line is that you're not always going to score the first goal and professional hockey players should probably still be able to do their jobs when playing down a goal or even (oh my goodness) two goals. The guy guarding your own net is not the reason why you can't score. A crapload more games have been won by teams whose goaltender let in two goals than have been won by teams who were able to score zero goals. Letting in two goals or less is pretty much the definition of giving your team a chance to win, If your team can't score more than two goals a game (let alone less than one), you're not going to win much of anything no matter who is in your net. -

So, the stupid and completely unavoidable penalty and the awful line change did not contribute at all? Or, they were Howard's fault? Garbage. I refuse to even consider the rest of your post at all because it includes that B.S. -

That's not a penalty for me. Smith didn't extend his leg any extra. He should not be expected to just move out of the way and let Marchand through. -

Even completely outplayed, all they had to do to still be in the game right now is not be stupid, but apparently they are incapable of accomplishing that. Stupidity deserves losses and that's exactly what they'll get for it. -

Of course Douchic scored a goal in the game he probably should have been suspended for. It usually works that way, doesn't it? -

So, the Wings won Game 1 in part by avoiding penalties and bone-headed mistakes. For Game 2, it seems that they wanted to find out if they could still win the opposite way. -
Yeah, I think so.... plus a 5 minute major and a game misconduct, neither of which were received by Lucic. Should have been $5K and 1 game, I think. But, the league doesn't have enough in the area DeKeyser got speared to suspend Lucic.
-
A loss is what should be expected when that kind of effort is turned in. It will be a very short postseason if there is more of that to come - doesn't matter who they play.
-
I agree that the numbers themselves do not lie. But, they certainly can be used to mislead. The team has scored a goal more per game on average in games that Gustavsson has started vs. games that Howard has started. So, either Gustavsson is contributing significantly better than Howard is on offense.... or the records really do not accurately reflect who is the better choice in goal.
-
Chimera scores with 10 seconds left in the 2nd. Let's hope that wasn't one of those last minute goals that hand all momentum to the opposition.
-
Well, one wasn't deserved. And that happened to be the difference in the game.
