I just think rules should be more black and white where possible. Net on moorings when puck goes in = goal. Net off moorings when puck goes in = no goal. This isn't quite as bad as the 'intent to blow the whistle' rule. But, I don't like it for similar reasons. Simpler is better, in my opinion. Either the whistle was blown before the puck went in or it wasn't. Either the net was off its moorings before the puck went in or it wasn't. Anything else leaves gray areas that are open for interpretation. Like, who's to say that Atkinson wouldn't have knocked the net off with just his momentum even if Smith hadn't made contact? Why is 'positioning his stick to play the puck' definitely 'in the act of shooting?' Open for interpretation is less desirable, in my opinion. I realize that it can't always be accomplished, but the rules (imo) should be made so that there can be as little argument as possible. It's really best for everyone, I think - refs included.

With a healthy lineup and earlier in the season, not necessarily a bad idea. Now? Terrible idea. Detroit is icing two entire lines that basically have no chance of scoring at all and one of the other lines is three rookies. You can't sit one of the few healthy players capable of putting the puck in the net now.

I agree. Bertuzzi is done and has been terrible. I feel like he's only playing to have another veteran in the lineup with the ridiculous amount of young players.

Mursak would have gotten much more ample opportunity to make the roster if he had been able to stay healthy in 2010-11 and 2011-12. But, he couldn't.

Nothing to see here really. Chicago won a game they should have won. Detroit lost a game they should have lost. Completely healthy defending Stanley Cup champions at home vs. half of an AHL roster decimated with injuries. Big shocker of a result. One thought - I was under the impression that it had been clearly established that Smith and Quincey should never, under any circumstances, be on the ice at the same time.... apparently I was wrong in my thinking.

Playing a pretty good game often gets cancelled out when you regularly give up goals in the last minute. Whether healthy or not, they have got to figure out how to stop crapping their collective pants on the ice at the very end of games.

The best players have to play like it and they didn't at all on that last play. How about someone force MacKinnon to do something other than exactly what he wants? Nah, no one even skate towards him. Let's all just freeze in place and then allow him to pass the puck through us. Detroit's m.o. - let them score in the last minute every game.

I guess I've been still holding out that this 'rebuild on the fly' deal that they're been trying to pull off would work out. It would be way more awesome if they were able to retool the lineup and get back into Cup contention without missing the playoffs. It seemed like it was going pretty well until they ran into all of these injuries this season and last.

So, you didn't say that you'd rather see the Wings finish dead last than 7th-10th? And, that doesn't qualify as wanting the Wings to lose?

Yes, I think we fully understand your line of thinking. A commitment to losing now is a commitment to winning later. And, you think that automatically will turn Detroit into the new Pittsburgh and Chicago. The main problems that I have with that are that (as has been pointed out to you already), top draft picks do not always lead to Stanley Cups or even general success. There are more examples of teams that drafted high for multiple seasons and it didn't work out that well for them than the other. And, I don't think losing purposefully for any reason is respectable and I can not and will not buy into it. I don't root for my team to lose - that's what fans of the other teams do.

Try asking Edmonton, NY Islanders, Columbus, Atlanta, Florida....

First goal was a terrible turnover blunder by the top pairing D which gave the puck to the opposing team alone in front of the goal. Second goal, top pairing D inadvertently hits his own goalie's glove as he's trying to make the save, which allows the puck to go in. Fourth goal a larger defenseman and a larger forward get beaten by and allow a ridiculously tiny opposing player to deflect the puck in. Howard was too slow imo on the 3rd goal, but there is definitely much more fault to pass around than you are implying.
