Well, he did let in 4 against us. Gustavsson (and/or the D depending on your opinion) just didn't hold up his part of the bargain...... which is still better than tonight, when no one in red and white held up their end.
-
Ok, well, we disagree. No offense.
-
Did you read his post? He didn't say anything about that hit. It was very general and clearly was just anger about losing and the other team playing better. And, as I said, I have no issue with standing up for team mates. So, I have no argument for you there. Perhaps I misinterpreted the post, though. Well, if you or Detroit # Fan are only saying that you wish that the Wings would have stood up for their team mate after the dirty hit, then we are in agreement. If, however, you think that they should have been trying to goon it up if that hit hadn't occurred and just because they sucked at hockey tonight and got beat by a team that played better, then I disagree and see my previous post.
-
....except that the only guys they should really be upset with are the ones wearing the same color jersey. Scrum/fight because of some dirty play or something happens? Sure, stand up for your team mate. Respectable. Scrum/fight because you're getting beat because the other team is better at playing hockey than you are? No. That makes you the kid that throws the chess board because he can't figure out how to win. Not Respectable. You call tonight 'losing like wimps'.... and then you suggest losing like whining children.

I'm not sure whether or not you are suggesting that Dallas' system is better than Boston's, but.... Boston is 2nd in the East, whereas Dallas is not even in playoff position in the West (10th - only ahead of Winnipeg, Nashville, Calgary, and Edmonton). If I had to choose, I would take the restricted sniper getting fewer points and home ice in the playoffs over awesome sniper point totals and tee times when April rolls around.

Had to watch the game on DVR. Can't believe they dropped that one to the frigging panthers. I gotta say Babcock looks like a moron putting 4 forwards out there on the power play with just a few minutes left and a lead. Guys on the ice have some fault there too. Conservative was the way to go. Of course Florida was going to be jumping all over any shorthanded chance they had that late and behind. All Detroit had to do was not give up a shorty and what do they do? Lose the game because of their own stupidity. What a waste of 4 goals.

Just as interesting to me is that Miller played only 9:09.... less than even Emmerton. Seems odd.... I didn't see him get hurt... did I miss that or something? -

We definitely do not have a Stanley Cup winning team unless we win the Stanley Cup. Sorry... I just thought it was funny. Oh, today's game..... I'd like to see a continuation of Howard's recent play, but he has to get some goal support. I really want to see Nyquist get going. I'll say, optomistically..... 2 - 1 Detroit.... Nyquist and Emmerton for Detroit.... King for LA -
You have no proof to support your claims, though. Show me proof that Samuelsson was faking an injury to avoid being bought out. Sure, fans don't seem to like him much because he hasn't been producing. Yes, Babcock has sat him quite a bit - 'never plays him' is obviously false. Never complimented by Holland or Babcock in interviews...... “I thought (Mikael) Samuelsson was good, had lots of opportunities to score last game so I’m leaving him back in,” Babcock said. - November 14, 2013 ... again, obviously false. Show me proof that Samuelsson would have been bought out if it had not been for the injury situation. If it's so clear, surely you can find me a quote from Holland or someone saying 'Yeah, we would have approached him about a buyout, but he said he was injured, so that didn't work out.' I haven't seen anything like that as of yet. All I've seen is posts from people like you full of speculation and opinion and devoid of pertinent factual information. As far as pissed, I'm not going to 'read between the lines.' I can't do it any more than you can. We don't know Bobcock and Holland well enough to tell what they are thinking by their tone. Mikael Samuelsson did not screw anyone's plans. He signed a contract that he was offered. No one had a gun to Ken Holland's head and made him an offer he couldn't refuse. They offered him the contract and he took it.... same way as he did with Vancouver when Detroit wouldn't pay him what he wanted the last time. It isn't Samuelsson's fault that Holland put himself in his current position. The contract is on Holland. The NTC in the contract is on Holland. The fact that a buyout was even potentially necessary (not that we can prove that one would have happened anyway) is on Holland. Mikael Samuelsson didn't sign 20 forwards to the team this season. If you must be pissed off, I think your anger is misdirected. There's more reason to be pissed at Holland than Samuelsson. And, if everyone is so annoyed about the Samuelsson contract, I don't understand why there aren't like 10 threads full of posts with people fuming about the Weiss contract. Detroit is done with Samuelsson after this season. Weiss is getting paid $2 million more per season. Has basically the same amount of points in the same amount of games played this season - WITH over 4 more minutes of ice time per game. AND..... there are FOUR more years left on his contract. Not to mention that the guy he replaced is absolutely lighting it up in Tampa.
-
Right. And what I am looking for would be..... 1) Proof that Samuelsson lied about the injury 2) Proof that he would have been bought out if he had been healthy (or had not lied about being healthy, if that was the case) 3) Proof that anyone inside the organization is pissed off about the situation
-
What has Samuelsson done that you are qualifying as 'pissing off everyone in and outside the organization'? Please use factual information only to backup your statement.

Come on guys. It was a really good game. They aren't going to win many games with this lineup. It's just not going to happen. It sucks, but it's not nearly as frustrating (to me anyway) as when they should play better and they fail miserably. Honestly, they should have played worse or the score should definitely have been worse. The team the Rangers iced was better that the players Detroit has available.
-
Trying to decide which is more accurate.... In Detroit, PP stands for 1) Piss Poor or 2) Pathetic Play. Or maybe it's just all four together. Piss Poor Pathetic Play. That's not to say that there weren't good things to take away from this game. But, man....
-
I think Henrik Zetterberg is also pretty good.
-
I disagree that it is unfair to compare him to Emmerton. They're playing in the same league now. And, in that league, a 'center that never produced much' has a better point per game average than Callahan (by a good bit). Also, Emmerton may not have ever scored more than 12 goals in a season... but he's on pace for well over that now. Insert Callahan's name in for Emmerton's in the previous sentence and it is still true. Just to be 100% clear - I have no issues with Callahan, btw. And, I wouldn't mind him getting a chance in Detroit.

Canada got a sweet draw with their group. They only really have Finland to deal with - as close to a free pass to the medal round as you can ask for. The U.S. got the shaft with Russia and Slovakia in their group.

Anyone know what the worst shootout record for a season is? Do we have it already? If not, how close are we to it? -
Still better than 5-0 (i.e. a game in which Detroit had no chance of winning from start to finish) imo. At least there are some positives to take away on the offensive front (vs. the zero positives to take away from the 5-0 game). Also, at least it was entertaining to watch, for the most part, as Detroit had a good chance to win the game (not the case int he 5-0 example). And, I'm assuming that it isn't necessary to add this.... but I'll do it anyway, just in case... you don't get to pick WHICH games they score 4 goals in. It's not like... not scoring now will mean more scoring later. Four goals is a better sign going forward for the team than no goals... loss or no loss.
-
So... you would have preferred that the team just suck it up on all fronts? It is worse that they were actually capable of generating offense, albeit in a losing effort due to terrible goal tending... that's worse than it would have been if they had gotten shut out 5-0 or 6-0? I do not agree or I misunderstand your point of view. Please explain.
-
At least they scored four goals. It could have been worse, as we have seen this season. They just can't really seem to put together the "we've figured out how to put the puck in the net" days with the "we've figured out how to stop the puck" days. They have, however, figured out how to do neither on occasion.
-
You can't expect to win very often when you give up five goals. Howard has to be better than that.
-
Joe Nieuwendyk? That seems like a bit of a stretch. Why isn't Modano suiting up for Detroit then?

"Hockey Night in Canada." Game is played in Canada. Canadian team receives biased officiating clearly in their favor vs. the U.S. team. Big shocker. -
Hahaha - yeah, the reason that lineup is atrocious is because of the difference between Cleary and Tootoo. Probably because he is a first round pick that they need to make a decision on prior to next season.
-
What's aggravating is that they can't score any goals. They might want to figure out how to score goals before doing anything else. It's probably going to take a while, though, as they are completely clueless at the moment when it comes to that particular subject.
