    12/15 GDT: Lightning 3 @ Red Wings 0

I hate this. This team can't put the puck in the net. at. all. I wish Mick would shut up about the 'silver lining' too. I don't care one bit that there's a 7 point cushion. The team sucks right now. Terribly. They can't score for the freaking life of them. That's it. No silver lining to it. I am so sick of watching losses. I am going to go vomit now.

    Jurco Called Up

I agree. The call up makes no sense if he doesn't get a chance to score. What's the point otherwise?...just taking a look at him? Seems like an odd time for that. Detroit is 12-1-3 when they score 3 or more goals this season. They're 3-9-6 when they score less than 3.

Eaves and Glendening Recalled: Emmerton Sent Down

Oh, I see. So, by 'always,' you meant 'now.' It all makes so much more sense now..... I mean always. Also, your understanding of the phrase 'slightly better than useless' is clearly about as good as your understanding of the word 'always.'

Weiss out until "at least after Christmas"

Do you have any support for that statement? The way I remember it, Filppula was demanding more than he was worth based on his entire career (except for the 2011-12 season). So, the Wings didn't re-sign him and went instead with a guy who had earned a contract like that based on his career (except for the 2012-13 season). Sure, it does seem like the wrong decision was made at the moment. But, taking away the knowledge gained in the last 3 months (which no one had during the free agency period, unless Tampa had Marty McFly and Doc Brown on their staff)... it still looks like the right decision to me, even if it ended up being the wrong one. It definitely sucks right now and will be really bad if Weiss doesn't turn it around. It was not a ridiculous decision by any stretch at the time, though.

Eaves and Glendening Recalled: Emmerton Sent Down

Really? 'Always'? That's garbage. No one seems to remember that Samuelsson and Cleary played any seasons on this team other than last year and this year.

12/10 GDT: Red Wings 2 at Panthers 3 (SO)

Yeah, he lost the shootout. But, as far as regulation and OT, allowing 2 goals in 65 minutes is not 'blowing it.' Scoring only 2 goals in 65 minutes is closer to blowing it than allowing 2.

12/10 GDT: Red Wings 2 at Panthers 3 (SO)

Howard sucks balls in the shootout, for sure. But, he did earn a win in regulation today. It isn't his fault the refs botched the call that made the difference.

12/10 GDT: Red Wings 2 at Panthers 3 (SO)

Oh my gosh I am so freaking sick of shootouts. I don't even want the extra point any more. Just give us a win or a loss. Shootouts blow. Bring ties back.

    Darren Helm Injured

You don't see it because they are not profound statements. It seemed like at least 25-30 other people were saying the same thing repeatedly at the same time he claims to have said it. Also, as you stated, Z has preexisting issues with his back and Helm's injury issues have been freakish. Neither supports his 'I told you so' statement the way that he seems to think they do.

12/7 GDT: Panthers 2 at Red Wings 1

Haven't read the books. I thought the movies were pretty good though, especially the 2nd one. Based on the movies it doesn't seem that embarrassing to admit. It's not like he said Twilight or something.

12/7 GDT: Panthers 2 at Red Wings 1

Well, Havlat isn't doing much... I, like others, would love for Weiss to get going tonight. I think this really could be a worthwhile roster IF Weiss can somehow locate his previous ability to play the game of hockey (and once everyone is healthy). They should still beat Florida tonight even with the roster handicap. Although, the game is in Detroit.... which is a clear advantage for the Panthers.

    12/4 GDT : Flyers 6 at Red Wings 3

Lashoff skated around the back of the net taking himself completely out of the play, while Couturier, who was right in front of him, stopped right beside the net and remained in the play. He then took a shot/pass and tapped in an easy goal while Lashoff was still nowhere useful. Then, our PK sucked again and can't get the puck out of the zone to save their lives. That's how I remember them.... someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

Do Quincey and Smith have a future in Detroit?

    Well, that depends on how you look at it. Let's look at some other #19 overall picks in comparison to Kindl.... 2010 - Nick Bjugstad - 32 GP, 4 G, 7 A 2009 - Chris Kreider - 44 GP, 8 G, 11 A 2008 - Luca Sbisa - 245 GP, 8 G, 43 A 2007 - Logan McMillan - 0 GP, 0 G, 0 A 2006 - Mark Mitera - 0 GP, 0 G, 0 A 2005 - Jakub Kindl - 175 GP, 8 G, 32 A 2004 - Lauri Korpikoski - 354 GP, 57 G, 63 A 2003 - Ryan Getzlaf - 582 GP, 165 G, 387 A 2002 - Jakub Kories - 0 GP, 0 G, 0 A 2001 - Shaone Morrisonn - 480 GP, 11 G, 64 A 2000 - Krys Kolanos - 149 GP, 20 G, 22 A 1999 - Kirill Safronov - 35 GP, 2 G, 2 A I know he's the highest Red Wings draft pick since Martin Lapointe in 1991 or whatever, so he seems like a really high draft pick that totally hasn't met expectations since he took a while to develop and doesn't light the world on fire. But, when viewed with a wider gaze, he isn't Getzlaf (obviously), but neither does he seem to be "a disappointment to say the least" "as a 1st round pick 19th overall." That's just my opinion, though.

Pre-game discussion 11/27 Bruins: Dats out. Gus in.

Aside from that, it was SO intentional imo. He absolutely did not have to stick the elbow out there and it was not a normal or natural way of movement based on what he was doing. He ended up doing exactly what he wanted to - elbow Datsyuk. Now, an argument could be made that he wasn't necessarily going for the head, but Cowen was definitely trying to hit Dats with the elbow purposefully. I'm with others. No penalty and no suspension means open season to take a run at Cowen and Spezza or Ryan.

Pre-game discussion 11/27 Bruins: Dats out. Gus in.

And the NHL continues to look like a bunch of clowns for not suspending Cowen.

    Datsyuk concussion: To Return Tuesday

It doesn't make any sense to me. Please explain.

    Datsyuk concussion: To Return Tuesday

It definitely should have been a penalty, as was not. We agree there. I also agree that it did not fully connect and could have been much worse. I do not agree that it had no real force behind it, though. I don't think Datsyuk would have gone down OR missed the next game (precaution or no) if he didn't feel something there. His head didn't snap back mostly because it was a glancing blow to the side of the head. Players do not get suspended for intent alone. The intent was obviously there. Cowen stuck his elbow out very obviously and it was not a natural thing to do in that situation. He clearly and purposefully gave Datsyuk the elbow. And, he connected with it.... to the head. So, it wasn't just intent. There WAS intent to hit with the elbow AND the elbow hit the head. And. Dastyuk missed time as a result of the hit.... while I do not necessarily agree that should come into play when considering the suspension, it very clearly has come into play historically. If Cowen doesn't get suspended, the NHL again proves itself to be a bunch of inconsistent hypocrites.

    NHL Refs

It's not like it would be unprecedented. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Jesse Winchester got a suspension for his 11/7 elbow on Chris Kelly. No penalty was called in the game on Winchester. I believe there are other examples, but this is the most recent (and comparable) I could think of.

    11/23 GDT: Game 24 - Senators 4 @ Red Wings 2

Acknowledgement - There was some embellishment/diving on the part of Detroit. However, the officiating crew allowed Ottawa to get away with at least twice as many blatant penalties as were actually called on them tonight. Acknowledgement - Detroit still had every chance to win the game and should have done so (5 on 3s, etc.) However, Detroit's embellishment and performance this evening do not excuse the pathetic embarrassment that was the officiating crew. The men on skates that performed their jobs in the poorest fashion this evening were Jean Hebert and Brian Pochmara.

    What is Samuelsson's role?

I agree. Guy has 4 solid seasons in Detroit are a pretty good 2nd/3rd liner with some size and a right handed shot on the PP. Scores a points better than every other game. Contributes just as much or more in the playoffs, including a Cup run and another run to the finals. All for pretty cheap, considering. $537,500 the first year, $1.2 million per the next 3. Goes to Vancouver for better $ and earns it - does even better for two seasons. Hits the 30 goal mark. 50 and 53 points respectively. 15 points in 12 playoff games in one of those years. Gets traded to Florida. Is out for part of the beginning of the season, but comes back and ends up with 31 points in 54 games (full season 57 point pace). Florida gets to the playoffs for the 1st time in forever. He has 5 points in 7 playoff games. Signs in Detroit again. Lockout. Injuries. Doesn't really get a chance to even play before everybody on LGW decides they hate him.

****(Stuff) no one says about the Wings

So, a thread where everyone can complain about all of the same things that they complain about in every other thread.... except this time they'll say the opposite and be sarcastic about it. How refreshingly new.

    Nyquist Getting the call

You guessed incorrectly. Wow - so you were serious..... you actually think that the 'kids' were 'the' reason that Detroit nearly beat the Blackhawks in the playoffs last year? So, Tatar was playing in Grand Rapids. DeKeyser was injured. Lashoff was benched. So, I can only assume that you are talking about Smith, Nyquist, and Andersson. Now, I am not trying to take away from the performance of these players during the playoffs because I was generally impressed with them as well. However..... Smith, Nyquist and Andersson combined for 3 goals out of 15 during the series. Nyquist and Andersson averaged around 13:00 of ice time per game each during the playoffs. The 3 of them were part of a 4 way tie for 7th ont he team in playoff scoring. None of them played any significant minutes against the oppositions best players. Again, they all contributed as best they could and when they could. But, as I said, suggesting that they were 'the reason' Detroit almost beat Chicago is a complete exaggeration.
  23. barabbas16

    Nyquist Getting the call

Yeah. It's possible that you might be exaggerating the impact the 'kids' had during the hawks series....a tad.
