Primeau was like 25 years old when he got traded. He had 26 - 34 goals in 4 out of the next 5 seasons and he was hurt in the other season out of that. Keith Primeau wasn't a hall of famer or anything, but he had successful seasons after Detoit got rid of him.

Did I fall asleep and miss when Brunner proved himself to be a 30 - 35 goal scorer? Maybe that's why no one has given him $3.5 million per year yet. Also, I think your thought process on forwards lacking defensive responsibilities is a complete joke. Forwards have different defensive responsibilities than defenseman, but the difference is not negligible enough to where we should "give less" whether they play defense or not. I think that "primarily this should be the job of the defenders" is a flawed statement. Defense is an entire team effort and just because you put the puck in the net on one side of the ice doesn't mean you don't have to do anything on the other side. That said, I don't hate Brunner. And, I think that, given some more time playing NA hockey, he could improve his game to become a more complete player. But, he was a hefty part of the reason Tatar was held back last season. And, if he was re-signed, it seems like the Red Wings would be forced into doing that again. Tatar has earned his shot at a full season. He has to have a full chance to show what he can do, in my opinion. And I don't think he gets that if Brunner is still on the roster. I like Brunner and wish him well, but he just doesn't have a spot here anymore. Thing is, he could have had one.... but he didn't want it.

It sounds like you are putting being a fan of the team up against being a fan of specific players. Some people are capable of doing both. I suppose some are not. It seems to me as if you have come to a conclusion. Maybe you should start a Let's Go Damien Brunner message board.

Jim Nill takes Red Wings’ director of amateur scouting to Dallas
barabbas16 replied to wheelchairwing's topic in General
Well, FU too Nill. -
I don't know exactly how I feel about this. But, reading everyone's reaction is and will continue to be entertaining.

Brunner is about the last thing Montreal needs. They are already too small up front. I hope he doesn't go to Chicago... I can't imagine they can/will offer much to him.
-
Ugh.... I don't want to see him in a Penguins sweater.
-
I'm not 100% thrilled or 100% pissed. Everything isn't over and done with yet, though. So, we'll see when the dust settles. However, the above post is simply ridiculous pretty much all around..... and CLEARLY belongs in the overreaction thread.

So....just to recap... The Serratoni guy basically said criticizing the team is all part of being a fan. Then, MidMichSteve posts a definition of fanatic that includes the phrase "uncritical enthusiasm." THEN, Serratoni 'likes' MidMichSteve's definition post that seemed (to me) to contradict Serratoni's previous post. ..... am I misreading something? Did the guy change his mind on what a fan is, or....?

Well, you are entitled to your opinion on that just as much as you are on the draft. I was just saying that it seems like others disagree with your negative opinion of the Wings' 2013 draft.... so you may not be in the consensus there. bleacherreport.com.... Greatest Needs: Forward depth Top Pick(s): RW Anthony Mantha, RW Zach Nastasiuk, LW Tyler Bertuzzi, C Mattias Janmark-Nylen The Detroit Red Wings had a number of options with their first-round pick. They ended up selecting the top goal scorer in junior hockey, winger Anthony Mantha. Mantha scored 50 goals last season and has a great shot. He needs to get more involved physically, but the Red Wings can give him the time to develop that element in his game. The Wings also added Zach Nastasiuk of the Owen Sound Attack. He switched to the wing halfway through the season, and it made a huge difference in his game. They also added winger Tyler Bertuzzi who is a project, but has some good bloodlines as the nephew of Todd Bertuzzi. It was some good drafting by the Red Wings. Grade: B+ sportingnews.com.... DETROIT RED WINGS: A. Got an extra second-round pick for being willing to move down two spots in the first round, where they came away with a fine prospect in Anthony Mantha. Didn’t pick anyone smaller than 6-0, 178-pound Tyler Bertuzzi, selected with that extra second-rounder. The reality is that, obviously, no one will know for a while how good the draftw as for anyone. But, I just don't see how anyone on this board can be complaining about this draft. It seems like in every thread multiple people are whining that the Wings and their prospects are too small and not gritty enough. So, they draft size and grit. And there's still complaining. I don't pay enough attention to who says what, so I am not directly calling you a hypocrite in particular. Just speaking about the board in general.... it seemed to me like a draft that LGW should have been pretty pleased with. I guess everyone can;t be pleased.... and some will just always find something to complain about (again, not necessarily you.... just venting I guess).

So you just say that because they don't agree with what you think.
-
Not everyone agrees with you.... ■ ESPN’s Grant Sonier : B+. “Anthony Mantha was the only 50-goal scorer in the draft and the Wings will bring this talented winger along slowly, as is their M.O. If everything comes together with his maturity and a willingness to play hard consistently, he could be a big-time goal scorer in Motown. I liked their second-round picks as well. Zach Nastasiuk from Owen Sound of the OHL adds size and work ethic and Tyler Bertuzzi was an honorable mention on my top 50. He is as gritty a player there was on the board and in time will do whatever it takes to make the Wings.” ■ Sports Illustrated’s Allan Muir: B. “They picked up the Q’s only 50-goal scorer in Anthony Mantha (20). He needs to work on his consistency and battle levels, but you can’t teach hands like his. Zach Nastasiuk (48) was a fast riser heading into the draft. He’s one of those kids who does all the little things right. His grit and work ethic will make him a reliable bottom-six guy. Tyler Bertuzzi (58) is meaner than his uncle Todd. He’s as good an agitator as could be had in this draft.”

No. He is definitely would not have been there in the 5th, 6th, 7th rounds. Oh wait... there's no way I can prove that. So, it is really a worthless statement.

Dreger: Filppula looking for $5.5m/season over at least 7 years
barabbas16 replied to a topic in General
I don't see how the statement 'if the situation was different, then there would be a different result' is even worth saying. The salary cap did drop.... so, $5.5 million is an inordinate amount of money for Flip and he won't be resigned here if that is a hard number for him. -
Jonathan Ericsson - should we consider trading him?
barabbas16 replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
I can not see this as a possibility and I can't see Ericsson asking for $5M. Defensive defenseman do not make that much money. Goligoski is an offensive defenseman. That's why they got Neal for him. And, that's why he makes $4.6 million. Ericsson has never scored more than 15 points in a season at the NHL level. Unless his offensive game totally blossoms next season, he won't command that kind of $ (in my opinion). -
Signed Jakub Kindl signs 4 year extension, $9.6m total, $2.4m/yr
barabbas16 replied to Jedi's topic in General
This is probably a true statement. An argument could easily be made that Kindl and Brunner are about the same level of "proven" players. They are about the same age. Kindl gets the edge in both of those because he is a little bit younger and came up through the system. BUT, Brunner is a UFA.... so that outweighs the rest. I agree. Brunner walks if he doesn't get $3M, and he will go get it somewhere else. -
I must have been watching a different NBC than you were because they didn't really sound like they agreed with the call to me. I will say that I only heard their initial reactions to it, though..... as I was pissed enough to have to leave the room. I think it was a weak pansy garbage inconsistent and ultimately incorrect call that is over and done with... and no one can do anything to change it. Dwelling on it is a complete waste. I also think that Brendan Smith's mistake on the 1st goal of the 3rd had a much greater effect on the game and is more so the reason Detroit lost than the penalty shot goal or any other single thing.

gdt WCSF Game 6 GDT- Blackhawks 4 @ Red Wings 3, - (Series tied 3-3)
barabbas16 replied to FlashyG's topic in General
Brendan Smith should do everyone a favor and just say he got hurt and can't play the rest of the game. Instead, he'll probably continue to assist the Blackhawks by remaining in the game. What a complete waste. -
Red Wings don't belong in the same rink as the Hawks?
barabbas16 replied to MidMichSteve's topic in General
I don't know why this article would upset anyone at all. I thought it was hilarious and it made the writer sound like he suffers from small man syndrome. The Blackhawks are a better team right now than Detroit, no doubt. But they haven't even played Detroit in the playoffs since 2009, when they lost. The basis of rivalries, to me, is mainly in the playoffs. And, even if the Blackhawks win this series.... this Blackhawks team will be a sparkling 1-1 in playoffs series vs. Detroit. The guy sounds pathetic. -

Then why is it only happening to him tonight? No one is expecting him to be Lidstrom. We're just expecting him to not turn the puck over every time he has it and cause the team to play in the defensive zone for the entirety of his every shift. I don't hate Smith and I don't want rid of him, but he is having a horrific game tonight, He's been terrible. -
