  1. Man.... Lashoff and Kindly today... I'm not exactly brimming with confidence when they are out there.
  2. Brendan Smith - you are a JACKASS! GET OFF OF THE ICE AND DO NOT RETURN!

    WCQF Game 4 GDT : Ducks 2 @ Red Wings 3 (OT) - (Series tied, 2-2)

Wow. How is Lashoff. Not getting ripped any worse on here for that?

    Playing Eaves over Tootoo

Mmm... I think you probably want to use Z and Dats on the PK as little as possible. This is not because they are bad at it, obviously. But you would prefer to not use your best offensive players in situations that have little chance for offense. The ideal scenario is having bottom 6 forwards that are your main PKers, in my opinion.... i.e. Miller, Eaves, Andersson, Helm, Abdelkader, etc. You want to use your top six guys on the PP. But we won't have Helm, Miller, or Abdelkader tonight. I don't see how you sit Eaves.

    Playing Eaves over Tootoo

I agree with this. Eaves kills penalties. Tootoo doesn't. I would agree with the argument that Tootoo adds more benefit during 5 on 5 play than Eaves does. But, I think we're struggling more on special teams than we are at even strength and Tootoo doesn;t help special teams. I wish he was a good penalty killer. I also agree that he should be in instead of Bert. I would not say this if we were talking about a 100% healthy Bert (or even somewhere close to that), but we're not. He hasn't looked too spry. Tootoo should have that spot this game. I don't know that it will be the difference either way, though.

Samuelsson on the top line tonight - god help us all !

I agree. I thought it was fairly obvious that this would happen. The only other option that I could think of, really, was Dan Cleary on the top line. Of course, THAT would have caused even more of an uproar here.

2 Games for Abby, 0 for Weber?...We Deserve Answers

Shanahan definitely has a thankless job and it is impossible for him to please everyone. I don't know if we deserve answers, but I think the above post leans toward what the answer is..... If you're not a star player - "We're cracking down on head shots. Here is the rule book." If you're a star player - "Well, you sell tickets and we want to see you on the ice. Plus, we can't find the rule book at the moment." It is a double standard and it is hypocrisy. It is also the world we live in.
  8. Probably a true statement. However, they are much more likely to score by shooting right at the goalie than they are by not shooting at all, which they have been doing WAY too much of in my opinion.
  9. Yeah, he left his feet, but that doesn't look like a head blow to me. Get over your sensitivity, put on some glasses and watch the hit again Mike Keenan.
  10. ....and thank you God for Gustav Nyquist. Good night everyone.
  11. Brendan Smith, please remove the balls from your mouth and cease sucking on said balls. Can not even believe this complete meltdown. Howard, what happened to you?

WCQF Game 1 GDT : Red Wings 1, at Ducks 3. (Anaheim leads, 1-0)

A deserved loss, in all honesty.

    Split up Datsyuk and Zetterberg.

Besides try not to take stupid penalties, I suppose.
  15. Connolly had played 1 year for Toronto. This is Cleary's 8th with Detroit. Connolly accomplished nothing in Toronto, not the case for Cleary. I'm not saying that I'm thrilled with Cleary's play this season or last. Or that I think he shouldn't have sat some games this year in favor of others. But he has earned more loyalty and second chance here than Connolly has in Toronto. Your comparison is not apples and apples.

    4/17 GDT: Red Wings 2 @ Flames 3

I almost hope that they are out of playoff contention for the final home game of the season season, so that they get booed off the ice by the fans in Detroit. Because that is what they deserve for this season.

Concerned - we might not make it in to the playoffs

I agree with the majority of your post. I am curious, though.... what constitutes a "deserving" hockey city? I would like to know why Dallas and Columbus do not meet the qualifications and what cities do, in your opinion (or anyone else's).

    4/7 GDT : Blues 1 at Red Wings 0

Yeah, it is annoying. And so are the responses to the LA thing. They are also getting just as old and are equally as annoying, in my opinion.

    4/5 GDT: Red Wings 3 @ Avalanche 2 (OT)

Outworked. Deserved to get scored on.
  20. Ok... Well, fortunately I did not get to see the 7-1 Chicago loss. I am sure it was terrible, but I don't personally feel like I can say much one way or the other based on one game... national television and against a rival or not - at least not one regular season game. I don't really agree on the Legace/Howard 1 to 1 comparison, but I won't get into that. MasterPavel - I'm with you. I'm greedy too, and I honestly have felt like the Wings had a legitimate shot for a long period of time. And we have all gotten used to that. But in a salary cap world it is just not realistic to expect that to continue on indefinitely. I agree with GMR too, though, in that making the playoffs and the streak matters to me. And, I think that can happen with the current roster. GMR - You're probably going to hate my bringing this up (and I do too, to be honest), but Holland DID make a move last season. Clearly that has not worked out the way that any of us, or Holland I'm sure, wishes... but he did do something. Yeah, I know he stood pat some years prior to that. And it does seem like he says the same thing every year. I'll give you that... it's kind of annoying. But, what do you want him to say? And, which deals specifically that happened do you wish the Wings had made for this year's deadline? Oh.... and as for what can happen in the playoffs... come on, man. It may be a really small possibility, but anything CAN happen in the playoffs...... Lloyd: What do you think the chances are of a guy like you and a girl like me... ending up together? Mary: Well, Lloyd, that's difficult to say. I mean, we don't really... Lloyd: Hit me with it! Just give it to me straight! I came a long way just to see you, Mary. The least you can do is level with me. What are my chances? Mary: Not good. Lloyd: You mean, not good like one out of a hundred? Mary: I'd say more like one out of a million. [pause] Lloyd: So you're telling me there's a chance... *YEAH!*
  21. Ok - no offense taken then for the user name joke. Lol. Clearly, I didn't mean a literal parade. I just don't understand the overwhelming negative attitude here. I mean, I was a little disappointed just because it's cool to have something new happen at the deadline for Detroit. And yeah, this team is far from one of the better ones in Detroit for several years.... but we all knew that going in. Honestly, I was kind of pumped coming into this season. The first real chance to get a good look at Smith at the NHL level. New captain - how does Zetterberg handle the 'C'? How does the team step up in general without Lidstrom? Brunner comes in from Switzerland - what's he got? And then the injuries happened, but we got our first real good look at Tatar at the NHL level because of it. Kindl's season has been a pleasant surprise, Lashoff as well. Even Mrazek. But I never seriously thought this team had a legitimate chance at the Cup this year, did you? Even with a deadline deal. I just hoped they had enough to make the playoffs to keep the streak alive. And, if they didn't... well, maybe they'd get a good 1st round draft pick for once and we'd see what happened there. It's a down year, yeah. But, it's a damned good down year when you can make the playoffs and it's this interesting. I kind of rambled some thoughts out there. I guess.... I can understand some disappointment, but not the level of negativity that we are seeing here. Thoughts?
  22. And your point is what - that my posts are discounted somehow because of my user name? I don't see how that is relevant at all. Or are you just saying that you don't have a legitimate response and just want to go on being negative and raining on any parades that may spring up on the board? And if someone doesn't like it, well then you'll just turn your negative comments to their user names?
  23. I understand that. It doesn't mean that people should feel obligated to take every opportunity to spread their doom and gloom every time a miniscule ray of sun shines through the proverbial rain cloud of negativity that is this board.
  24. I don't know how you can be tired of it when it is grossly outnumbered here by negative posts like yours.
  25. Well, I am so sick of this whining about the lack of movement at the deadline, but it's going to keep on flooding in with abundance. I haven't seen a deal happen yet this year that I felt like if Detroit had made it, they would be in better enough shape to make a Cup run to outweigh the worse shape they would be in going forward. And LA did win it last year. Deal with it. But, but, but, boo freaking hoo, bingo bango all you want. It happened last year. Edmonton made it to the Cup finals and took it to 7 games in 2006 as an 8 seed. And, it remains a possibility this year. Pittsburgh just lost 4-1 at home to Buffalo. I don't think the Pens have a chance now! They clearly suck terribly. Oh wait - that's just one game and is totally not indicative of the season and even less so of the yet to happen playoffs.
