Don Cherry and the like to blame for hockey violence
SweWings replied to CenterIce's topic in General
Or his motives aren't as pure as you think. This kind of publicity could land him some nice jobs. -
Can't be bothered with links and stuff but he got owned. He was in Sweden and was trying to fix something with Färjestad. They didn't want to proceed without some kind of agreement from Detroit, which they had refused and continue to refuse to give. There was some speculation that he might be fined/banned for some games. I'm sure he won't be called up in the near future and will definitely be in the doghouse for a while unless he turns his game around completely. So far this season he has gone from bad to worse to... well, I really didn't think he could do worse than being forced to stay with the Griffins but then he pulled his stunt... I don't judge him too harshly but... not a smart move.

NY Times - Deceased Player Connects Hockey to Brain Injuries
SweWings replied to kook_10's topic in General
Awful but I am not really surprised. -
We're due a goalie-injury it seems...

...I have nothing constructive to contribute... just curses... which I'll refrain from writing here.

Boo.

Great move by Miller .

Agreed. But somehow Canada always seems to win. For me that reduces the suspense to almost nothing. Even if Canada doesn't end up in the final I'd still expect them to win the gold-medal. That's how little the actual outcome matters to me. Appreciate the vids tho!

Most WJHC are silly in the sense that there's pretty much no suspense. But... they are still fun .

Exactly. Besides, I'm more than happy with how Howard is doing so far.

While 80k USD is indeed more than decent pay, 40k USD is NOT 4 million SEK. It's not even 300k SEK

The only reason I'll watch Slovakia's games with interest.

...this is not a joke then?

That wasn't part of your argument. You said points and offensive play this season. Might as well suggest Bäckström.

The screwed up thing - that this guy doesn't seem to realize - is that this kind of instability isn't going to help his development in any way. He should've stayed with Färjestad and played there for a full season; he had a spot, he was very much contributing and he probably felt at home. Considering his history this was sensational. I'm not saying this excuses what's going on - I'm saying that this situation is not surprising and that his prior behaviour should have been taken into consideration before deciding where he would have played this season. Flatly telling him not to leave is not going to help the situation. However, given all these things, he really does need to explode if he comes back to Sweden. But I'd prefer he stay with the Griffins, as much I personally love to do so, cutting and running rarely helps in these kind of circumstances.

If it came down to popularity among fans then Lids vs Alfie is probably quite an even contest. But who will the players respect more? Who will carry the team better? I'd give the edge to Lids.

Some people just don't flourish in the NHL. Or even don't want to flourish in the NHL.
-
And THAT is what's sensational about this story.

Detroit needs a winning streak of 5ish games to place themselves at around 6th or something. After that they can string along the same kind of record they've been having for the last month or so.

Should the Wings Allow Players to Play in the Olympics?
SweWings replied to GMRwings1983's topic in General
For some reason I thought of He-Man when I read that. In all seriousness though, refusing to let players represent their country is not a smart move. -
Who Was the Last Wing to Score Back to Back OT Goals?
SweWings replied to GMRwings1983's topic in General
Gotta love LGW... this thread deteriorated quicker than Red Wing's fans' love of Fedorov. -
This guy fell far.

In all fairness I think we already knew that.
