Kovalchuk - Next Year UFA, A way to bypass this years cap Problem
SweWings replied to Probie's topic in General
Kovalchuk will want a huge contract... huuuuuuuge... -
I usually get two new jerseys at the beginning of every season, one veteran and one youngling... It's going to be hard to pick between Ericsson and Helm for the next season...

Game 5 Injury Update: Ericsson, Datsyuk, Lidstrom out
SweWings replied to alowicious's topic in General
For real? He's only gonna miss one game? -
Under the right circumstances I wouldn't have a problem with this at all. I just think Ericsson needs to get a full NHL season under his belt to develop properly, hopefully with quite a bit of ice time with Lidström and Stuart.
-
Meh. This really depends on the kind of offer he gets from Washington. A $2M per year contract should be enough motivation for him to stay another season. With Fedorov we're not talking Jagr money; the difference maker is going to be playing with his brother and moving home to Russia.

I can't imagine very many Hawks' fans thinking this way...

Avs offer Head Coach, GM position to Patrick Roy

Such a badass name for a team. I approve.
-
Never really understood the massive Ranger's contract he got but other than that a really good career - enjoy the rest of your life Mr. Holik!

For some reason I always picture Roenick being older than Chelios. I really don't know why...
-
Eh. This guy may have a lot of upside but he's not going to get to show it in Detroit. I'd rather get someone who is a proven performer.

Yeah I bet the Avs will get a warm welcome at the Joe now... -
This made me laugh way more than it should've.

Grew up watching young future Swedish superstars like Forsberg and Sundin play so I might just as well have picked the Nordiques to cheer for. But from the moment I started looking at NHL highlights I enjoyed Fedorov's game a hell of a lot more, as well as the heart-on-your-sleeve style of play that represented Detroit back in the early 90s. But what made me fall in love with the team and really become passionate was Yzerman and the back-to-back Cups. The fact that there are so many great Swedish players on the team right now is a huge bonus for me personally but compared to the history, spirit and style it is not a big thing.

Just look at what Näslund did for the Rangers, a team that did not deserve it. Yet he retired and brought his salary off the books. Does anyone really think that Zetterberg and Franzen will hesitate from retiring if they aren't contributing at the needed level?

Didn't think that I'd be home to watch the game but at as it turn out I will so GO WINGS!!

And the Wings break out in style. Gotta love the 97 pages of posts in this thread too.

Why would you need a slow motion camera to see that it's a goal?
-
Not really surprising is it?

Oh ye people... This guy was one of the only good things on a Canucks team for more than a couple of seasons and even won the Lester B. Pearson Award back in 02-03. He lost his step and his drive the last couple of years but his "killer instinct" was still good enough for him to score 24 goals this past season. Oh and he decided to retire instead of playing out the last year of his contract which would have paid him $3M and thereby solving at least some of the Ranger's cap problems. Classy? - Yeah. Btw, it's still a little weird to me that they have a goalie for a captain. Not that unusual in soccer but in hockey it's just strange.

Will Shanahan or Fedorov Retire in the Offseason?
SweWings replied to GMRwings1983's topic in General
Just a gut feeling but I think both will be back next season, esp Fedorov. -
THIS JUST IN: Avery spotted buying a Tortorella costume!!

Didn't quite expect all the positive reactions... Slow day eh? I'm just worried I might hurt myself - gotta get some of Holmstrom's padding...
