It's doubtful he'd sign for Detroit but at the same he'd never say he wouldn't sign either. Until he's saying in interviews that he won't sign for Detroit - for whatever reason, be it contract or Avs loyalty - I'm not going to jump the gun.
-
Please, please, please let this mean that people will stop saying that the Leafs are in the 'playoff hunt'!!
-
Look who's talking. And so we don't hijack the thread; I'd love Ovie to get traded here for Sammy. Seems like a good fit right?
-
There was a specific reason for the Calder trade - Williams wasn't playing well and was signed for at least the next season (don't really remember how long). I'm sorry but Sammy isn't that much of a liability and while picking up Ryder and reverting him back to the scoring craze he's had before is tempting, it's not really worth the risk. And like Grittzkey said, I'd rather keep that pick too...

As long as the guy doesn't go away during the playoffs he can take it easy right now. I don't want a repeat of last year.
-
Maybe we'll be able to get Luongo at the deadline for Chelios...
-
I'd rather have a decent puck mover with a physical upside than the other way around. Esp considering how the Wings play.
-
Fun to see a guy like Huselius score high on the list after being in the coaches crapper...
-
If Ovie hits 60 goals and the Caps make the play-offs there is no way he won't win it.

Oilers trade Tarnstrom to Jackets for Glencross

Ah too bad. I was sort of expecting him to get rumored to Detroit cuz all Swedish people are best friends... -
True. But it's a start.
-
The guy is gonna carry the Caps to the playoffs...

Should the NHL have first round byes in the playoffs?

Playoff hockey is the best hockey and I don't see any real problems with it as is. No complaints. I think the biggest problem is with the regular season and the f-ed up schedule that has too many problems for me to have the wakefulness to write down (it's late over here dammit!! i'm working a night shift and taking a break but still...not really conscious). Oh and like you guys mention, the biggest flaw in this suggestion is the lack of games for some teams. Hockey players are used to a high tempo, to be able to quickly rebound from a bad loss to a win AND to be able to get a good thing rolling. If that's removed then teams lose rhythm and just disappear. Like Ottawa has now when key players have been in and out of the line-up... -
I'd love Gilmour to make it...
-
Awww too bad - hope he gets better soon. He's finally coming out as a potential top-pair defenseman.
-
Wouldn't be very surprising, really. Oh, as an added extra, was checking some of Larionov's stats; apparently the guy played Sweden 38 times as a member of USSR national squad - they won 33 of them and only lost 3... Damned impressive...
-
I'm dumb... Not only would it be cool with these 4 getting inducted together - they're all good candidates. I don't really know why I missed on Larionov. Good regular season and play-off totals + 3 Cups. But the thing that puts him over the top is the fact that he had 2 Olympic Golds and an impressive career in Russia before even making the trip across the pond. Not really sure if that applies tho - is the HHOF mainly NHL oriented or does it also take international play into account?
-
Don't really see how any of the other guys can compare with the top 4 on his list: Steve Yzerman Brett Hull Brian Leetch Luc Robitaille
-
Well Forsberg doesn't seem extremely confident - can't be bothered with quotes and stuff, saw it on a hockey news thingie on Swedish TV.
-
For anyone else who is as annoyed by the "Is this the year?"

Kudos for fixing this - big o'l laugh-o-rama right here!!! -
Um, the fact that he doesn't want to play in the AHL doesn't bother me so much. None of the even half decent Swe players in the NHL went through the minor league hockey in the US/Canada. Fact is, he'd meet more qualified opposition in Sweden, esp given the international tournaments. I don't really see the problem with treating the top leagues in Europe as developmental leagues. Players can sign with for an NHL team but can be loaned out to a European team for a season. The European team then handles the negotiations for a new contract - which likely is a lot less than what he'd making in the NHL, but more than the AHL. Everybody happy. There needs to be more dynamic brought in to the system because the current one stifles players and pisses of the European leagues. And guys, most players develop faster in the European leagues than in the AHL, unless it's the type of player that doesn't exist in Europe which is one that relies on very aggressive, physical play. But I seriously doubt that Brunnstrom is gonna go anywhere near the AHL.

I'm one of those people leaning towards that Hossa and others like him will be too expensive to trade for. The only position I really feel we need to upgrade for the future is the goalie, and this is also where I'd be willing to give quite a bit up as long as we got a solid guy for the future. And while I still have hopes for Howard I'm becoming more and more convinced that the guy isn't going to pan out.
-
I think you guys are overplaying this quite a bit. The guy has quite a bit of potential but it's quite obvious he might not pan out. But he seems to be a better prospect than a lot of the guys we have in our system, esp when it comes to wingers. And he's developing fast, if Detroit catches him on an upswing we could have a pretty good player on our hands in a couple of years. Sign him, give him a lot of ice time during the pre-season and see if he can do it. Obviously also hope that he gets picked for most of the upcoming international tournaments so that he gets some experience from competitions like that. But then, don't be surprised if he decided/is forced to stay another year in Sweden. That might do him good too. Allowing him to play first-line minutes in Sweden and playing internationals for another year would be good for him.
