Backstrom is coming up. I mean he's not exactly rookie of the year but he'll develop quickly. But the problem for the Caps right now isn't really the offense from their forwards but better defenders, better defensive forwards and a future goaltender. And he'll be a class act for staying with the Caps as long as he did.

Not really the same history of problems with player transfers I guess. Well I don't mind. Detroit has been my absolutely favorite club team for most of my life. I think the biggest problem with the current agreement is the fact that players from Europe are signed to contracts a lot earlier than they used to be. In general that's not a good thing. Sure if it is a player that's more or less ready to play for the big club but if not then I think most players develop and mature better in a familiar environment. The best ones also get to play for the national team in the WC which is top notch training.

I think it has something to do with the WC being played every year - packed with NHL players. It waters down the potential of the Olympics.

Djurgården is building quite a Detroit Red Wings prospect colony. Frölunda decided to pass on him - which is unfortunate for me because I would've seen him play several times during the remainder of the season. Maybe last season left them with a bad impression. Ryno will likely get a lot of ice time in Djurgården and will hopefully help Djurgården to the playoffs. I really hate this, just because of this it's becoming more and more obvious I'll have to cheer for Djurgården if something happens to Frölunda's chance to win the SEL. Bleh. Swedish linky

I think this guy has something special. I hope he gets to play in some of the international tournaments and especially the WC to get some big-time experience. I want him to have a chance to establish himself as the current top goalie in Sweden before coming over. Damn I want a Lundqvist-caliber goalie.

Same here. A big kid like him really needs to learn how to throw his body around and he's not gonna learn that back in the SEL. Well too bad.

Don't know. He has 3 goals 4 assists and is +3 in 12 games. I hope that his return to Sweden was made in consultation with Babcock and the rest of the coaching staff and management. I have no worries though - he'll be back...

Sure but on the other hand he was established as the best goaltender and probably the best player overall in the Czechoslovak First League during the years prior to coming over to the NHL. Sort of like Lundqvist I guess.

This team needs defensively minded players, not just defensemen and a better goalie but forwards.

I'm really happy and surprised with how well he's taking the amount of games needed now that Hasek is really slumping. I hope Hasek gets his groove back but Oz has really stepped up.

We really hit the jackpot with Hakan Andersson but you're right, the NA scouting is suffering. With all the great Euro prospects it's easy to ignore that. When it comes to Lucic I think a player like that could fit in Detroit it just depends on the line combo.

Even dumb people have the right to voice an opinion - you just don't have to entertain him. Besides we shall see how he pans out, he does look good though but yeah I don't know how well he'd do against an established enforcer - might be able to hold his own I guess.

Well a win is a win. It ain't pretty but you've gotta start rebuilding somewhere right. Nice to see Dats use his wicked shot in the shoot-out and Hudlers move was great. Osgood was great in the shoot-out too. Oh and damn I love Rafalski and Lidström.

So one bad game...He's still 6th in points among defensemen and he's tied for 9th in +/-...He's been good so far this season... EDIT: chrisdetroit beat me to it...Damn
